The 411: Study Drugs What’s a “Study Drug”? Any neuro neuro--stimulating drug (like Adderall, Ritalin, or Vyvanse) used to help increase focus or gain energy. What do I need to know? Using stimulant drugs without a prescription or other than as directed by your doctor can have serious side effects. Side effects of misusing stimulants like Adderall can be serious and include: Dependency or depression Abnormally long sleep cycles Increase in blood pressure Uncontrollable shaking
Fatigue Irregular heartbeat Seizure activity Chest pain
Irritability Extreme nervousness Paranoid delusions Losing consciousness
Helpful tips to increase focus WITHOUT misuse of study drugs:
TAKE TIME TO RELAX For every 2 hours of studying, take 10 10--20 minutes to do something fun or relaxing to help your brain rest and refocus.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP The brain needs sleep to process information and store it to your memory.
USE STUDY DAYS WISELY Drinking alcohol, even days before your final, can hinder your ability to remember and recall information.
NOURISH YOUR BODY Eat well well--rounded meals and lots of high protein snacks to help with focus and concentration.
EXERCISE Exercise elevates chemicals in the brain that have a positive effect on focus and attention.
