If you’re into all the pomp and circumstance surrounding the coronation of King Charles III, the ceremony is set for Saturday, May 6, beginning at 4 am CT, and NBC (the only net confirmed at presstime) is the place to watch. According to the palace … Their Majesties King Charles III and Camilla, The Queen Consort, will arrive at Westminster Abbey in “The King’s Procession” from Buckingham Palace, where the coronation will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. After the service, Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession known as “The Coronation Procession,” where they will be joined by other members of the royal family. At Buckingham Palace, The King and The Queen Consort, accompanied by members of their family, will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonial events. Across the coronation weekend, however, there will be further opportunities for people to come together in celebration of the historic occasion. On Sunday, May 7, a special Coronation Concert will be staged and broadcast live at Windsor Castle by the BBC and BBC Studios.
About 3,000 dapper dogs descend on New York City for the 147th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show May 7-9. After a two-year stint in Tarrytown, New York, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the show is back in the boroughs at its new venue, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens. We fetched some facts about the most popular and prestigious of dog shows:
• The American Kennel Club recognizes 212 breeds of dog. So your puggle, Chiweenie, labradoodle or bullshih may be a wonderful companion, but it’s no show dog. Also, since this whole thing is about breeding, the dog can’t be spayed or neutered. Sorry, Bob Barker.
• There is one new eligible breed competing this year: the Bracco Italiano (Bracchi Italiani is plural).
• Dogs are judged on breed Conformation, or how well each dog compares to the official breed standards describing a dog’s appearance, movement and temperament. Judges critique everything from the thickness of the whiskers to the color of the eyes.
• The terriers are the big dogs of Westminster. The group has produced 47 Best in Show winners.
• A bloodhound named GCHB CH Flessner’s Toot My Own Horn — “Trumpet” for short — won Best in Show in 2022.

The ’80s are over. The comedy loosely based on creator Adam F. Goldberg’s childhood in Pennsylvania debuted in 2013 and will conclude with 10 seasons. The show had a tough time in recent years, with the passing of George Segal, who played Pops, in 2021. That was followed by Jeff Garlin, who played Murray, exiting due to allegations of inappropriate behavior. “You can’t keep asking your audience to mourn people,” star Wendi McLendon-Covey said. “That’s not why they tune in.” Hopefully, the show that brought back wonderful memories will go out on a happy note.
This emotional drama about the bonds of family and friendship may have begun as ABC’s answer to This Is Us, but it stood on its own and found a devoted fan base over five seasons. Creator D.J. Nash says a big “celebration of friendship” awaits in the finale. “This last scene … would be the message I would hope resonates for all of our fans who might be sad that the show is ending,” Nash told TV Insider. “There’s a circle of life that we all go through that is really profound and I can’t wait.”

Bill Hader won two Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series playing a socially awkward hitman who takes up acting classes in the dark comedy that fades to black after four seasons. We won’t forget Henry Winkler’s turn as over-the-top acting coach Gene Cousineau anytime soon.
“It’s been an amazing journey making this show, and it’s bittersweet that the story has come to its natural conclusion,” Hader says.
Creator Jesse Armstrong decided to bring the Roy family saga to an end with Season 4. The two-time Emmy winner for Outstanding Drama Series was a wildly entertaining look at the unimaginably wealthy family’s boardroom machinations, power struggles and vulgaryet-clever aspersions. “There’s a promise in the title of Succession. I’ve never thought this could go on forever. The end has always been kind of present in my mind,” Armstrong told The New Yorker. “We could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong. And that was definitely always my preference.”

Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Sam (LL Cool J) brought a lot of fugitives and criminals to justice over 14 seasons of the NCIS spinoff. The series ends its run with a two-week finale called “New Beginnings,” in which NCIS aids in the search for stolen military-grade weapons, and Callen and Anna (Bar Paly) plan their wedding. The finale is followed by the retrospective special A Salute to NCIS: Los Angeles.
In announcing that The Flash was coming to an end, executive producer Eric Wallace enthused, “Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor and spectacle. And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race.” It also marks the end of The CW’s intertwined “Arrowverse” series based on DC Comics superheroes. Wallace and his team are taking The Flash out with a bang.

A New Perspective On World War II?
Here’s How A Stellar Cast And Superb Writing Made It Possible.

National Geographic’s limited series about the Dutch woman who risked it all to shelter Anne Frank’s family is like a punch to the gut — in a good way. Somehow managing to show Nazi-occupied Europe from a new perspective without oversentimentalizing or repeating similar hard-worn tropes from previous Holocaust-era productions, this eight-episode historical drama is one you’ll definitely want to watch.
“I think it’s important to make it different,” said Bel Powley, who plays the star of the series, Austrianborn secretary to Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) and hider of the Frank family Miep Gies. “Another sepiatoned, kind of dusty re-creation of this part of history … what would be the point?”
This is no dusty re-creation of World War II. Nor is it a mere biopic. Everything about it is compelling — a true feat considering what happened to Anne Frank and her family is general knowledge to most. But the focus here is broader. It’s about everyday citizens living through one of the worst moments in time, but it’s really about humanity — what they are capable of, both good and bad. Gies is a fascinating, awe-inspiring example. The show is based on her life and the memoir she wrote, Anne Frank Remembered.
“Tony [Phelan] and Joan [Rater], our amazing showrunners, they’ve been researching and preparing for
this show for many, many years,” Powley told us (and this is evident from the first episode). “It’s pretty damn accurate. Every time we got a new episode, I would always read it and be like, ‘There’s no way that could be true. No one would do that.’ And every time they’re like, ‘No, no, it’s pretty accurate,’ which was completely astounding.”
It’s not only astounding to follow the daily high-stakes travails of Miep and her husband Jan (Joe Cole) — who worked with the Dutch resistance — Miep’s character is also very relatable and enjoyable to watch; she is at times silly, at times funny and charismatic. Prior to the German invasion, she likes clothes and shoes and parties like anyone in her 20s. War doesn’t stop a girl from becoming a woman — but it surely makes it harder. Miep still must navigate friendships and love all while keeping Otto Frank’s company afloat and his family and friends safe upstairs. She does it all with bravery and focus, but she is human, so she also has moments of rage, moments where she nearly gives up. “Can I not just be angry for one second before I look on the bright side?” Miep asks during one scene, after a stressful day where nothing goes right. When her husband finds out she decided to hide the Frank family without consulting him, they have the most wonderfully poignant argument. Take the war out of the equation and it could be a fight between any couple on Earth.
That’s what the show does best: It makes you remember that what you see as history now was once just regular everyday life. It brings the
past out of black and white, out of simplistic overtones; it’s gritty, and it resonates. Sure, a lot of characters come off oafish, arrogant or just as horribly misguided as their leaders. But most folks were trying to survive. This meant very different things in 1942. Sometimes this meant working with or joining the Nazi party. My grandparents were all Holocaust survivors, and this show was able to address Nazis in a nuanced way without being offensive to their memories or simplifying all Germans and all Dutch citizens into twodimensional monsters. Most people were Nazis; we forget this. This means most individuals are capable of being one. It also means that they are capable of some humanity, and several examples of this are scattered throughout the show, when soldiers look the other way. Every scene reminds you that these were all people like us who had to make very hard choices during very hard times; it’s just that their actions and choices had major historical ramifications, ones that still echo nearly 80 years later (the Jewish population has still not returned to its pre-World War II numbers). Therefore, these stories are still important to show onscreen, and it’s important to do them well. World War II is a case study for how terrible things can get, and how to, perhaps, avoid getting there again.

We are now 50 years removed from the infamous Watergate break-in of 1972 and the ensuing 1973 hearings that ultimately led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation in August 1974. While many people may know the names of the people involved, and have a general idea of what went on, there are some lesser-known details — some almost too incredible and at times humorous to believe — that may not be as well known.
HBO’s five-part series White House Plumbers delves into those details. It follows Nixon’s political saboteurs, the “White House plumbers” of the title — E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, who are portrayed, respectively, by sureto-be Emmy nominees Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux in fantastic performances — as they accidentally topple the presidency they were zealously trying to protect, and their families along with it, through a combination of bad luck and, mostly, their own clumsiness.
The series is directed and executive produced by David Mandel, with Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck on hand as creators, writers and EPs. Those three men were all involved behind the scenes with HBO’s acclaimed political comedy series Veep, and

they bring a similar sensibility to this satirical drama.
Since White House Plumbers is based on a real story that represented a very serious moment in our nation’s history despite how humorous some of the incidents surrounding it may have been, this creative team expertly keeps the series balancing a fine line between drama and wit throughout, while never becoming an outright comedy, as Veep did on occasion.
“Any great producer will tell you the trickiest thing is maintaining tone,” agrees Judy Greer, who costars as Fran Liddy, Gordon’s wife. “It’s really hard with five hourlong episodes. It’s like a five-hour movie.”

As great a character actress as Greer is, portraying Fran Liddy, even in limited scenes, had its challenges.
“I was playing someone that there wasn’t much information on,” she says. “There wasn’t a ton about her that I could find, so I kind of decided to just create this character and play off Justin in my own way.”
It works quite well. As overthe-top and often belligerent as Theroux’s Gordon can get, Greer’s Fran tends to balance the couple out.

Greer’s role in this sort-of “movie” is not particularly large, but it’s one of those supporting roles that she has seemed to specialize in and become most renowned for: a character who may not be a big part of the overall story, but who you also can’t look away from when she’s onscreen, thanks to Greer’s portrayal.
She features in some of the series’ wildest scenes, as when the Liddys invite Howard and his wife, Dorothy (Lena Headey, Game of Thrones), over for dinner. At one point, Fran’s off-the-wall husband drops the needle on a record album of Hitler speeches as casually as if he were simply playing some after-dinner music,
In forming the character, Greer says that after first reading the scripts for all five episodes in order, she then started from the end to “create” Fran.
“[I] saw at the end when Gordon’s in jail, she stays by him, and she supports him. … She’s committed to him, and raising their kids, and keeping their family together. I wanted Fran to not be stupid; I wanted her to have made a choice to be a devoted wife and mother.
“I think she kind of knows the drill. She’s probably more streetwise than book smart … and that’s what I found just from the scenes that were written that I think is an interesting way in. Because I didn’t want her to be rolling her eyes at her husband. … I just think it’s more interesting if she kind of knows her husband’s a bit dopey, but she doesn’t care, because she loves him.”

Everyone has a hobby, but not everyone is paying up to six figures a year to support it. Bravo puts the spotlight on five diverse women who share a passion for dance, who pay professional dancers (that’s the “pro” in pro-am) to compete with them (they’re the “am,” or amateur) across the nation. We caught up with Sabrina Strasser, a former champion from Toronto, who became interested in the sport at age 29 after watching Dancing With the Stars.
“I took it up as a hobby after work once a week, and one thing led to another,” said Strasser, who had no previous dance experience. “I started really taking it more seriously. It wasn’t just once a week after work, it was three times a week, private lessons, and then [my teacher] spoke to me about competing because he felt that he saw talent, and it became a pro-am partnership.”
The series follows the women on and off the dance floor, as each of them has a very busy family life, and it reminds a bit of the network’s popular Real Housewives franchise.
“My passion is healthy, it’s dancing, it’s not drugs or alcohol, it’s not going out with girlfriends. I think it’s made me a better mom because I understand my girls and I try to teach them discipline as well,” Strasser concludes.
“My husband sees how dance has gotten the family together and a more passionate life. This show is our first opportunity to show how incredible it can be for amateur dancers and for women to follow their passion, to see what joy it can bring you.”
