Lisakhanya Pepe SABC NEWS BROADCASTER
We had an informal dialogue with Lisakhanya Pepe, the humblest and phenomenal SABC NEWS Broadcaster. Lisakhanya was born in Alice Kwa-Ntselamanzi 36 years ago. She matriculated at Masibambane Senior Secondary Kwazakhele, Port Elizabeth in 2003 and furthered her

studies journey is the reality most of us find themselves on, and at times in searching for your passion and what you love doing can require dropping what is seen as the most vital career, relationship or job.
Challenges you faced since inception of your broadcasting career? “The challenges I faced when I began my career – especially at the SABC, was the fact that I was being compared to legends so I had to prove myself, become myself and build my own brand. And that’s what makes me the Lisakhanya Pepe I am today”.

When we asked her about a moment she can remember that made her feel like she’s now on top of her game in TV broadcasting she giggled and said, “I wouldn’t say I am now on top of the game because honestly you don’t get used to live television, I get nervous all the time the moment they start counting down to go on air. But all I can say is that my biggest highlight was to share a bulletin with u”Mam Nox” (Noxolo Grootboom) during the passing of Mama Winnie Mandela. It felt so good and there was a voice that said to me “girl you’ve made it”. That made me realise that my bosses believed in me. And in the workplace nothing beats knowing that your superiors trusts you to deliver on huge tasks”.
Your feeling when you started working with your great colleagues and any lesson you learned from them? “Working with them became a total bliss, it was a dream come true. Thus far, I have learnt so much respect, humbleness and valuing my work from the team”.
If you were not doing broadcasting – what would be doing and why? “If I was not working as a News Anchor, I would be a Psychologist”, based on the experiences I’ve had growing up and the fact that most people young and old feel comfortable to share their highs and lows with me and feel better afterwards - I have that kind of gift”, she smiled brightly as she affirms.
What do you get up to when not working? “When
I am not working I
go to gym because it relaxes my mind or go shopping”.
Lastly – your message to a young girl out there about dreams? “To every girl child out there, don’t be afraid to follow your dreams. Never feel that you are less than the other gender. Most importantly don’t undermine your abilities and run after your dreams”.

founder
of
Duzwaswiss a business under the DuzwaAfrica company. Born and raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Ulundi. Obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology at the DUT. Currently he resides in the city of Durban, where his company is based.
The business operation was initiated in the year of 2018. I had been selling other brands of watches when I discovered a visible gap in the market.

to
complement a gift or timepiece in order to give the buyer a unique experience. Therefore, I decided to design timepieces that would be unique; with an African touch, in my own style.
"When I began, the most challenging thing was the lack of funds. I started this business with money I had made as a part-time waiter while I was still persuing my degree. This posed several challenges because I would sometimes not have enough resources to keep my business
running.
I
also
struggled
with
developing

08
SANGA COLLECTION
Sanga Collection designs shoes, belts, bags, boots and other beautiful products.
Please share the meaning of the word Sanga: "The name ‘Sanga’ is the collective name for indigenous cattle of sub-Saharan Africa. The breeds of the Sanga Cattle include: the Abigar; the Red Fulani; the Nguni and the Ankole-Watusi to name a few".
The term ‘Nguni’ comes from the groups of Bantu speaking pastoralists who over a period of a few hundred years migrated from the north to the southern parts of Africa. These Nguni people moved with their cattle spreading across southern Africa integrating their culture with others. The Nguni people as we know them today are distinguished by three large subgroups, the Northern Nguni, the Southern Nguni and the Ndebele.
Lastly - what is unique about your shoes?
"Each pair of our shoes
are unique because no two cowhides are alike. I believe in making things to last, every product is slowly made, hand crafted and made with premium materials. This means that when you choose a pair of shoes, bag or any of our products, the cow hide pattern is completely unique

What inspired the TEMBA COLA idea? And why the name TEMBA COLA? “Temba Cola was started to offer the consumer market to enjoy the luxury of a cool drink at a much better price, and in packaging that is least damaging for the environment, and not to forget 100% recyclable. The name TEMBA (laughing) is a tale story that my mother used to tell me of how a young lion called

“We started Honeyholic in December 2020. We chose to take a path with honey because it allows us to take something that may seem simple, like honey, and show everyone the many ways in which it can be used and show our customers and spectators that there is no such thing as ‘just honey’, that has the same taste everywhere. We realise that there is a lot of ignorance surrounding honey, and we would like to enlighten the public about honey (Natures Gold). Flavour, colour and fragrance are all dependent on the flora (flowers, trees and plants) the bees forage on. Our honey is pure, raw and non-irradiated whereas many other honey suppliers are often irradiated (or heated) to prevent the honey from crystalising, which is a natural occurrence in pure raw honey".
14
In starting, what were your challenges and how did you overcome them? “We started during the Coronavirus pandemic which was a blessing

the
basic
It all started during Lockdown in 2020 when M1M PE mobilised a team under the M1M field reps Merlene and Patrick De Donker Alexander in the Northern Areas to provide cooked meals every second Saturday to assist with the hunger challenges that resulted from Lockdowns and COVID, this then resulted in the movement adopting the settlement. In time the trade token initiative was presented to the community leaders and community at large who embraced the concept. This community was willing to work for tokens to provide for themselves.
M1M JHB launched a M1Mtrashbage national initiative and so we used this as the vehicle in which to trade. Clean up, collect 5 bags of trash for 5 tokens and receive the uniform and stationary pack.
This proved to be such a success that 1210 trash bags was collected by the community
on 21 February and the value of 1210 tokens were given
out. Only 165 of those were redeemed for the uniform stationary packs. This goes to show the complete buy in form the community.
The next initiative is to identify entrepreneurs, set them up then mentor into sustainability and success. You can follow M1M PE by clicking on the social icon on the right.

Qhama Yawa FASHION EXPLOSION MODEL
Can you tell us about yourself and who you are? "I am Qhama Yawa, an 18 year old from Port Elizabeth and I am the second
of
three
children.
One
thing
about
me
is
that
I
take
education very seriously, and as I was part of the class of 2020 I have proudly passed my grade 12".
When did you start taking interested in modeling? "My love for modeling started when I was about 10 years old but growing up I always had problems with accepting myself, I had no confidence at all because of how mean school kids are. I finally felt ready in 2019 which was the turning point in my life I began being confident and I went to my first photoshoot in March that year".
Do you have any role models in the fashion and modeling industry? "My role model has to be one of Port Elizabeth's models which is Sinazo Mbana and she encourages me to follow my dreams, then there's Luthando Shosha as well as Adut Akech".

What is your favorite modeling style.
"Fashion
modeling
is
my
favorite, as I really love clothes".
Human trafficking is a huge problem it affects woman, what would be your advice to government in order to protect woman? "I feel our justice system is not as strong as that of other countries and so criminals do as they please. The government should transform and perpetrators should have no rights at all, I think that could work pretty well".
If you can be afforded an opportunity to travel the country, which cities would you like to visit?? "I'd happily like to go to Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban".
What other things are your interests besides modeling?
“I love
beauty and fitness so you'd find me doing people's faces or doing workouts”.
Do you have a 5 year plan or you take every year as it comes?
“I
plan each year before it starts and just write down my goals for each year. However I want to have graduated in 5 years time”.
In the year 2020 what lessons are you coming out with?
“The first
one is to never rely on people, everyone is busy and has their own personal problems and so as a person you must be able get things done by yourself”.

academics are actually far different from her passion for food. She has a diploma in Information Technology, a diploma in Systems Engineering and a certificate of Completion for HRM.
"I started cooking from a very young age. I was not the kid to play outside or watch cartoons, instead you would either find me in the kitchen helping my mom or watching cooking shows by some of the culinary giants like Gordon Ramsay. I loved being in the kitchen and exploring my creativity through ingredients. I was always the go to person for recipes and cooking tips in campus and even in my working life. One day a very good friend of mine gave me a push in the right direction and suggested that I start a food blog to help others in the kitchen with easy recipes and great cooking tips. I was hesitant at first but after a while I realised what a good idea it would be to share all the knowledge, I have on a platform that can reach South Africans everywhere".

breakthrough, that's where we invented Afrika Kesho to make that dream come true.
The idea of Afrika Kesho commenced in 2018. Our objective is to empower Africans to build better money habits. We believe that if you want something done, you do not wait for it to be done for you, you do it yourself.
Nobody will teach us how to grow our wealth by investing, so we will do it ourselves. The number of people we’ve managed to reach as Afrika Kesho is just under 3000 this far, but we’d like to reach every corner of South Africa, if not every corner of Africa.
Our

of
buying groceries in bulk at the end of the year. Instead of saving that money in banks like Absa, which are largely owned by nonAfricans, they could save their money in interest bearing accounts that are also partly African owned, like Tyme Bank. The interest will assist in having more money for groceries at the end of the year, while saving money in that account will also help to grow the business of fellow community members. The best investment Kasi and rural people can make, is an investment in themselves. Your ingenuity and potential self-sufficiency has inspired Afrika Kesho the story of how Africa got to know finance. 29

a
contradiction, doesn’t it? How can failure design success? Is that like saying
“Water
designed
by
fire?”
Aren’t
the
two
opposite
of
each
other? No, they are not. Society has conditioned us to think of success and failure as opposite concepts, but they are not. Failure is not the opposite
of
success.
Failure
is
a
step
towards
success,
some
also
associate failure with stupidity.Failure is the state or condition of not meeting a desirable or intended objective, and may be viewed as the opposite of success. The criteria for failure depends on context, and may be relative to a particular observer or belief system. This book covers all areas of life in the context of failure. In this book, Matome will share with you the principles to overcoming obstacles and unleashing your potential.

IMVUSELELO: THE REVIVAL
"Imvuselelo is derived from the Bantu languages. This is a spiritual form of reviving and awakening the soul of the individual through music, drums and stomping on the ground(ukuxhentsa). In this concept it is the revival and self awareness of my cultural belief highlighting how I truly feel about the current state of affairs of this country as it stands".
"The year 2020 brought about a dark cloud for all of us, yet throughout the year I have been spiritually aligning myself to what lies before me. I made it a point that I reject anything that does not consider and honour my values as a Xhosa man and human being".

M'y music has always been the gateway to my creative expression, telling my part of the story about the things that affect me on a daily basis. This proved to be very therapeutic as I overcame challenges before me that may have hindered my progress in me making this album. I just want to thank God, along with my ancestors that I reached the completion of this album".
"On this album, I strongly express my struggles as an artist in South Africa. Most of the songs in this album are drawn from my personal life, as I speak about my family and some of the things and people we lost. I also speak about the Economical condition we are facing as Black people on a daily basis in this country. I speak about love and how much women should be appreciated and respected".
"This album is dominantly written in isiXhosa which is one of the 11 official languages in South Africa. I personally have never released a project
of
this
kind,
as
this
will
be
my
first
album
written
in
Vernacular. I hope people relate so much to the content of this album so that they get lifted and inspired to continue striving to be the best and always remember to honor their values, not forgetting to honor who they are and where they come from".
"Imvuselelo has 10 tracks and features a variety of amazing artists who also help shape the narrative of my story. Imvuselelo has notable tracks
such
as
Ek'seni,
Elangeni
and
Makhaya
Ntini.
The
artists
featured in the album are: Nandile; M2Kane; August Child; Svidge; Ace and King Joe".
