THE FUTURE IS NOW
Welcome to Oslo in January and February 2023 – a new year with new possibilities!
The Christmas holidays are over, and a new year is beginning.
In January and February many newly rested and inspired people like to try new projects, learn new things and improve themselves. These two months are of course also in the middle of the winter season. That means cold, crisp air and lots of snow and ice.
If you enjoy things like ice skating or hurtling down snow-covered hills on your skis, this is the season for you! To get started on your snowy adventures, you can begin with our article on winter activities on page 4.
And if you need a break from the hills or the warm indoors are more your kind of thing, there are plenty of other things to explore in Oslo!
Our official Museum List lets you know what’s on right now at Oslo’s many inspiring and exciting museums, plus tourist boats. You will find updated information on exhibitions and activities all over town.
How to find your way to all these places? In the back of the magazine, you will find practical maps to Oslo’s museums and the entire city centre.
Have a wonderful time in Oslo!

ALPINE SKIING & SNOWBOARDING
Skimore Oslo has 18 slopes, 11 lifts, and is just 25 minutes from the city centre! A powerful snowmaking system helps keep the alpine slopes open from early December until Easter, even when it doesn’t snow much. There is also an international standard half-pipe for snowboarders, a terrain park with moguls and jumps, and a special area for kids and beginners Floodlighting allows skiing until 10 pm.
ICE SKATING
Don’t want to travel far? Ice skate in the middle of town! The Spikersuppa ice skating rink is located between the National Theatre and Parliament, and is open every day in winter. It’s outside and completely free to use, although you can rent ice skates if you don’t have your own. There is also a larger skating rink with music and skates for rent at Frogner Stadium, right next to Vigeland Park.
CROSS-COUNTRY
SKIING
“Oslomarka” is the local name of the forests around part of Oslo. Although most of the forest has wonderful ski trails, its northern part, called “Nordmarka”, is the most popular. Nordmarka covers a
whopping 430 square kilometres, and offers great opportunities for recreation and exploration year round. During the winter there are more than 450 km of prepared, red-marked ski trails, and some of them are illuminated in the evening. It is also possible to stay for a night or have a break and a snack at many cozy, staffed and unstaffed forest huts run by DNT Oslo og Omegn, Skiforeningen and Bymiljøetaten. The routes in Nordmarka are usually wellmarked with signposts, but a map and compass is recommended for longer distances. Oslo Visitor Centre (Jernbanetorget 1) has a free simple map of the area, while the best maps can be bought at The Norwegian Touring and Mountain Association (DNT), Storgata 3, or at bookstores in Oslo.
TOBOGGANING
Take the metro to the top of the Korketrekker’n toboggan run (by Holmenkollen station), from where you can hurtle 2 kilometres downhill in about 8-10 minutes. When you reach the bottom of the run, you simply get on the metro again to reach the top! The toboggan run is located right next to the original bobsleigh run, built for the 1952 Olympic games. It is lit up in the evening, and don’t be surprised to find just as many grown-ups as kids there!

Photo: The Fram MuseumMUSEUM MAP
This is a map showing the museums in the official Museum List that you will find in the following pages. The numbers and colours on the map point to museums in the list, where you will find the same numbers and colours for each museum.
