SOMMERTID OG KORONATID Velkommen til What’s On Oslo i juni, når sommeren virkelig ankommer, og livet, ifølge de udødelige ordene til Ella Fitzgerald, er chill.

Både april og mai i år har hatt mange fantastiske dager for tilhengere av sol og varme. Oslos solhungrige borgere håper gjerne at denne trenden fortsetter i juni, den første "ordentlige" sommermåneden.

Juni er en måned hvor folk vanligvis, ved det første tegnet på varmt vær, strømmer ut av kontoret så tidlig som mulig for å nyte solen og finne kremplassen i parker, ved sjøen, rundt innsjøer, på øyer og i skogkledde områder i hele Oslo-området. I vanlige år drar mange også på tidlig sommerferie for å få billigere billetter - eller fordi de bare ikke kan vente lenger.

Juni 2020, derimot, er alt annet enn en vanlig juni, og dette er en litt uvanlig What’s On Oslo-utgave. Koronapandemien som har påvirket hele verden de siste månedene er langt fra over, selv om en del land melder om nedgang i sykdomstilfeller, og oppmykning av regler som skal hindre smitte.

Hele samfunn er satt på delvis vent, og det er uvisst om pandemien kommer til å gradvis dabbe av, eller gå i bølger i månedsvis eller lengre. Det er også uvisst når internasjonal turisme tar seg opp i Norge igjen.

Her i What’s On Oslo har vi tatt konsekvensen av dette ved å lage så mye av juniutgaven som mulig på norsk.

En av de store snakkisene for tiden er #norgesferie, og vi retter oss nettopp først og fremst inn mot alle de som skal feriere her hjemme i Norge og i Oslo i juni. Selvfølgelig i tillegg til våre faste lesere blant Oslos befolkning, fra studenter til kulturinteresserte.

Heldigvis har de aller fleste museene i Oslo begynt å gjenåpne (med diverse tiltak for å begrense smitterisikoen), eller kommer til å gjøre det i juni med mindre situasjonen forverrer seg. Museene leverer innhold til den offisielle Museumslisten som du finner i disse sidene, og der finner du mange fantastiske utstillinger og aktiviteter du kan oppleve i juni-Oslo.

Flesteparten av listingene er for øvrig på engelsk for museene som ønsket det, mens noen har oversatt til norsk.

Et tips er også å sjekke museenes nettsider for å få med siste endringer på grunn av koronasituasjonen.

THE QUEEN SONJA ART STABLE Exhibitions in the Art Stable vary between art and displays of objects from the Royal Collections.

THE ROYAL STABLES

Renovated for the opening of the Art Stable, the Royal Stables now appear as they did in their heyday in the interwar years. Where the horses once stood in their stalls, the public now enjoy art and history.

AKERSHUS SLOTT Akershus Castle

Akershus castle was built as a fortified medieval castle around the year 1300.

Since then the castle has been at the centre of events in Norwegian history.

Today it is used for state representation and cultural events. A tour of the castle takes you through the Government representation rooms, The Castle Church, The Royal Mausoleum and The Dungeon.

THE VISITOR CENTRE AKERSHUS FORTRESS

The Visitor Centre is located in the ‘long red house’ from 1774 by the Carp pond.

It is the natural starting point for a visit to the grounds. Our staff is up to date on the cultural events at the fortress and offer historical information on this unique monument of Norwegian history.

EXHIBITIONS 1716. THE SIEGE

In the year 1716 Akershus fortress was under siege by 'The Lion of the North', king Charles XII of Sweden. Follow the events on a day-to-day basis.

FORSVARSMUSEET The Armed Forces Museum

The museum covers Norwegian military history from the Viking era, through the numerous Nordic wars under Danish rule (ca. 1400-1814) to the Napoleonic wars, the union with Sweden 1814-1905, the World War II campaign 1940 and the War at Sea 1939-1945. The latest exhibitions cover the Cold war period 1945-1990 and recent international operations.

NEW EXHIBITION EMOTIONS IN ANTIQUITY AND ANCIENT EGYPT The unique exhibition, designed by Snøhetta, is buildt around a 15-metre table covered with artefacts from ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Here you will find sarcophagi, statues, busts and more. Each of the objects displays emotions that are universal across time and space.

Sit down at the table, face to face with the objects, and meet them with all your senses. You are allowed to touch some objects, which gives you very special contact with history.

WILHELM VON HANNO ARCHITECT AND DRAUGHTSMAN IN CHRISTIANIA This small exhibition presents several significant Wilhelm von Hanno (1826–82) acquisitions. The architect and draughtsman was one of the most important and prolific in his field in 19th century Norway.

Norway House also contains Norway Shop, where you can combine your magical Northern Lights experience with holiday shopping. Norway Shop has one of Oslo’s best selections of Norwegian sweaters and other classic and stylish Norwegian clothes.

This museum is the only one of its kind in the Nordic countries and is based on a collection of more than 3,500 Bibles.

Among the museum’s most valuable Bibles is an edition of the Swedish Gustav Vasa’s Bible from 1541, an original page from a 15th century Gutenberg Bible, as well as unique handwritten manuscripts dating back to the 13th century. Visitors will also find a miniature Bible collection with the world’s smallest Bible and a King James Version exhibition. At the Medieval printing press visitors can have their very own Bible page printed.

The Royal Palace was built between 1825 and 1849 and is where the daily work of the Norwegian monarchy is conducted.

It is the main residence of Their Majesties the King and Queen, and most members of of The Royal Court have their workplace here.

Normally, the Royal Palace is open to the public during the summer season.

All visitors must follow a guided tour through some of the most important and lovely rooms of the building.

However, due to the to the Coronasituation, opening of The Palace to the public has been postponed.

In this beautiful museum situated next to the famous Vigeland Park you will find an almost complete collection of the works by Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943). The story behind the Vigeland Park and how the sculptures were made is also well documented in the museum, which was built as studio and home for the artist in the 1920’s.

Villa Stenersen was designed from 1937 to 1939 by the architect Arne Korsmo for the financier and art collector Rolf E. Stenersen.

The house has been listed as a heritage building by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, and refurbishments are gradually being carried out to restore the building to its original colours and materials.

New Ski Simulator in Holmenkollen.

It is a Movie-Ride Theatre.

Experience Downhill Skiing at 130 km/ hour – and Ski-jumping at 100 km/hour.

Ski Simulator next to the Holmenkollen ski jump! Jump in “Kollen” and find out what it feels like to head down the world’s toughest downhill ski slopes alongside the world’s best performers on two skis. Technology which used to be available only to pilots and astronauts combines flight simulator movements with an “eye-­view” movie to create a unique and realistic feel.

Once inside the the Ski Simulator you will get the “ride of your life”, when the skiing starts. Up to 12 people can sit inside at the same time and the whole ride lasts about 5 minutes. “Amazing ride, amazing experience. It made me realize how crazy you have to be to go skiing at 130 km/h and how dangerous it is”.

The summer palace of Oscarshall is located on the peninsula of Bygdøy in Oslo. The palace was commissioned by King Oscar I and Queen Joséphine, and was completed in 1852. Today it stands as a monument to Norwegian art and applied art from the 19th century.

The palace is considered to be one of the finest examples of Neo-Gothic architecture in Norway and is one of the country’s most important embodiments of the National Romantic style so popular in Norway during the period.

At City Hall pier 3 you find our traditional sightseeing boats and sail schooners.

These boats have been taking tourists on the Oslo fjord since 1946.

The 2 hour Fjord Sightseeing has normally 3 departures every but this summer we sail only one, at 13.00 and maybe 15.30 if needed. Food and drinks are sold on board, and when we are not sailing, our schooners are available as Cafés and bars at the pier.
