Founded in 1993, the museum is one of Scandinavia´s most notable museums for contemporary art. The museum holds the extensive Astrup Fearnley Collection, which includes iconic works by artists like Matthew Barney, Trisha Donnelly, Damien Hirst, Anselm Kiefer, Jeff Koons and Cindy Sherman and presents changing exhibitions that both draw on the collection and new commissions by artists from all over the world. The museum is beautifully located by the Oslo Fjord in an iconic building designed by world-renowned Renzo Piano.

AKERSHUS SLOTT Akershus Castle

Akershus castle was built as a fortified medieval castle around the year 1300. Since then the castle has been at the centre of events in Norwegian history. Today it is used for state representation and cultural events. A tour of the castle takes you through the Government representation rooms, The Castle Church, The Royal Mausoleum and The Dungeon.

THE VISITOR CENTRE AKERSHUS FORTRESS
The Visitor Centre is located in the ‘long red house’ from 1774 by the Carp pond. It is the natural starting point for a visit to the grounds. Our staff is up to date on the cultural events at the fortress and offer historical information on this unique monument of Norwegian history.

In the year 1716 Akershus fortress was under siege by 'The Lion of the North', king Charles XII of Sweden. Follow the events on a day-to-day basis.

HISTORISK MUSEUM 5
The museum covers Norwegian military history from the Viking era, through the numerous Nordic wars under Danish rule (1400-1814) to the Napoleonic wars, the union with Sweden 1814-1905, the World War II campaign 1940 and the War at Sea 1939-1945. The latest exhibitions cover the Cold war period 1945-1990 and recent international operations.

NEW EXHIBITION EMOTIONS IN ANTIQUITY AND ANCIENT EGYPT The unique exhibition, designed by Snøhetta, is buildt around a 15-metre table covered with artefacts from ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Here you will find sarcophagi, statues, busts and more. Each of the objects displays emotions that are universal across time and space. Sit down at the table, face to face with the objects, and meet them with all your senses. You are allowed to touch some objects, which gives you very special contact with history.

The Nordic Bible Museum

PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS
This museum is the only one of its kind in the Nordic countries and is based on a collection of more than 4,500 Bibles. Among the museum’s most valuable Bibles is an edition of the Swedish Gustav Vasa’s Bible from 1541, an original page from a 15th century Gutenberg Bible, as well as unique handwritten manuscripts dating back to the 13th century. Visitors will also find a miniature Bible collection and a King James Version exhibition. Museum shop and web-shop.

Oslo City Hall opened in 1950, and it is the political and administrative heart of Oslo, Norway's capital. With its unique architecture and associated art collection, Oslo City Hall has an important place in Norwegian art and architectural history. The City Hall is today an important symbol of Oslo and Norway's values, traditions and history. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo City Hall on 10 December each year.

THE ROYAL PALACE Slottet

The Royal Palace was built between 1825 and 1849 and is where the daily work of the Norwegian monarchy is conducted. It is the main residence of Their Majesties the King and Queen, and most members of The Royal Court have their workplace here. Normally, the Royal Palace is open to the public during the summer season. All visitors must follow a guided tour through some of the most important and lovely rooms of the building. The Changing of the Guards will take place as normal every day at 13.30.

The Vigeland Museum

The Vigeland Museum is a sculpture museum located next to The Vigeland Park. The museum is Gustav Vigeland’s (1869-1943) former studio and residence. Today, the museum shows a permanent exhibition presenting Vigeland's art, and temporary exhibitions with three-dimensional art. The museum's collection comprises Vigeland's early works, his portraits and monuments, as well as plaster models for the sculptures in Vigeland Park.

Per Kristian Nygård’s (b. 1979) exhibition in the Vigeland Museum has been given the title The Economy of Form. Villa Stenersen was designed from 1937 to 1939 by the architect Arne Korsmo for the financier and art collector Rolf E. Stenersen. The house has been listed as a heritage building by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, and refurbishments are gradually being carried out to restore the building to its original colours and materials.

At the top of Oslo you can visit Holmenkollen National arena, a site where many skihistorical moments have been created. In the heart of the arena trumps Holmenkollen Ski Jump and Ski Museum. The world’s oldest Ski Museum is shot into the mountain underneath the ski jump. The exhibits cover the skiing disciplines of jumping, Cross-country and Alpine skiing; there are also exhibits covering important themes such as Norwegian Arctic explorers and the Norwegian Royal family´s passion for Skiing. New Ski Simulator in Holmenkollen. It is a Movie-Ride Theatre. Experience Downhill Skiing at 130 km/ hour – and Ski-jumping at 100 km/hour. Ski Simulator next to the Holmenkollen ski jump! Jump in “Kollen” and find out what it feels like to head down the world’s toughest downhill ski slopes alongside the world’s best performers on two skis. Technology which used to be available only to pilots and astronauts combines flight simulator movements with an “eye-view” movie to create a unique and realistic feel. Once inside the the Ski Simulator you will get the “ride of your life”, when the skiing starts. Up to 12 people can sit inside at the same time and the whole ride lasts about 5 minutes. “Amazing ride, amazing experience. It made me realize how crazy you have to be to go skiing at 130 km/h and how dangerous it is”.

The Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies, located in Villa Grande, the former residence of the Nazi collaborator Vidkun Quisling, is a research, education and documentation center. Our work focuses on the Holocaust, other genocides, extremism, antisemitisim, hate speech, and the situation of minorities.

The summer palace of Oscarshall is located on the peninsula of Bygdøy in Oslo. The palace was commissioned by King Oscar I and Queen Joséphine, and was completed in 1852. Today it stands as a monument to Norwegian art and applied art from the 19th century. The palace is considered to be one of the finest examples of Neo-Gothic architecture in Norway and is one of the country’s most important embodiments of the National Romantic style so popular in Norway during the period.
