The Atlin Whisper “Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Margaret Mead

Welcome Yukoners With the restrictions that Covid 19 have placed upon us all, Atlin has had many visitors from the Yukon this summer. As the Yukon, has always welcomed Atlinites, it is nice that we can now welcome a few more of you as you come to enjoy: hiking, biking, boating, sightseeing, fishing, camping and quadding.

As you enjoy these activities, we want to thank you in advance for remembering to respect our town, by: Following the speed limits. Slowing right down for all pedestrians and cyclists when you meet them on the roads and passing them with extreme care. Treating our lake with respect and other boaters with courtesy, as well as maintaining a safe speed and distance from other boats on the lake. Following all fishing regulations, disposing of litter appropriately in town as well as on any islands you may visit and riding the trails at reasonable speeds and with courtesy to others at all times. And please remember the Yukon Government Safe 6 including Social Distancing is in effect. Thank You!

Hello Everyone, Looks like summer forgot to show up this year and its already time for the new School year to start. Atlin RCMP want to remind drivers that School is set to resume on August 24 and to take extra care to watch for children on the roads and crosswalk in front of the school. For those who may be new to Atlin, the Atlin School is located on Warm Bay Road just south of the turn from Surprise Lake Road. The posted speed limit along Warm Bay Road in both directions as you travel toward the School is 50 Kilometers per hour. The school zone as you approach the school is clearly marked with signage and all drivers MUST slow down to 30 Kilometers per Hour. Atlin RCMP will be conducting patrols in the School Zone to ensure the safety of all users of the road. Drivers who fail to slow down in the school zone are subject to fines starting at $196 and a 3 point penalty against their driver’s license. Drivers will observe the school bus driving around Atlin transporting children to and from school. All drivers MUST stop and not pass the school bus as it is stopped along the roadway with the flashing lights operating. Drivers are subject to fines of $368 and a 3 point penalty against their driver’s license. A reminder to all that as the season changes, the amount of darkness increases making it more difficult for drivers to observed pedestrians and cyclists. If you are walking or cycling in the darkness, please ensure you wear lighter colored or reflective clothing. Pedestrians should walk on the left side of the road if there is no sidewalk (common in Atlin). Cyclists are required to wear a helmet and ensure your bicycle has working reflectors and lights. Atlin RCMP would like to welcome back all the students and staff and wish everyone a safe new school year. Please slow down and drive with your full attention on the road for everyone’s safety
