2016: It is hard to remember a year when more has happened. For the Canadian Chamber, this was another successful year, and I would like to thank you for your continued support. We saw our new government reshape Canada’s economic and international agendas. It is under this government that we secured policy improvements and commitments in areas that are critical to business success: access to people, customers, infrastructure, capital and technology. We welcomed and resettled over 34,000 Syrian refugees and overcame significant hardships—some were economic, others were caused by natural disasters. Internationally, we signed a historic trade agreement with Europe while the United States elected a new president, bringing much uncertainty about the future of Canada’s relationship with the U.S. Yet, despite all these changes, there has been one constant—how strong the voice of Canadian business has been. We are proud of our achievements in 2016 and have highlighted them for you in our Annual Report, which I invite you to read. On behalf of all of us at the Canadian Chamber, I thank you, once again, for your support in 2016 and look forward to our continued collaboration in 2017. Together, we are building the next 150 years of Canadian business success.

Sincerely, Perrin Beatty President and Chief Executive Officer

FOR IMEDIATE RELEASE JANUARY 5, 2017 Association seeks to change the face of disability – one photo at a time WHITEHORSE, YT - The Yukon Association for Community Living (YACL) hopes to change the face of disability, not just in the Yukon but possibly all across Canada..The association is hosting a focus group Tuesday January 10 at 6PM at the YACL office to get community input on the idea. “Advertising is yet another space we where we don’t see inclusion of the full spectrum of faces in our community, says Colette Acheson, Executive Director of YACL. “There is a lack of respectful and diverse photos that can be used by advertisers and often these photos rely on stereotypes. We want to change all that.” Through a feasibility study funded by the Yukon Community Development Fund, YACL is conducting research into the viability of a stock photography social enterprise that would portray real individuals with intellectual disabilities and their real lives. The project would create professional photos that can be used for advertising and awareness campaigns by other NGO\’s, businesses or governments who want their communications and marketing materials to reflect the full diversity of people with disabilities. As members of the social enterprise participants would be paid for their work, receive training and employment opportunities and become spokespeople for a more inclusive, diverse and respectful representation of people with disabilities in our community. The association is hosting a focus group January 10th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm to discuss the idea with adults with disabilities who are over age 16 and/or their family members. If you are a person with an intellectual disability (FASD, Autism, Down Syndrome etc), or have a family member who is interested in modeling or working in the photography business please contact YACL at 667-4606 for more details. A stipend of $25 and free pizza will be provided to all focus group participants. - 30 Contact: Colette Acheson Executive Director Email: yaclwhse@northwestel.net Phone: 667-4606
