NVD Announces Plans for Edgewater Hotel Renovations Whitehorse – Northern Vision Development has closed its Edgewater Hotel Property, Rooms Division, in order to allow for a comprehensive renovation to the property. From mid October 2016 until mid-April 2017 the Hotel will be shut down to accommodate comprehensive remodeling of the rooms and suites within the property. “It is our plan to have the nicest hotel rooms available in Whitehorse” said Rich Thompson, NVD CEO. “The property benefits from a great location surrounded by quality amenities for tourists and business and government visitors. However, the rooms are tired and in need of the type of comprehensive attention that only a shutdown will allow.” Tonimoes, the restaurant on the main floor of the Edgewater will remain open throughout the renovations which will concentrate on the rooms and common areas during this Phase I renovation. Phase II, which will take place in the future, will concentrate on the main floor, the addition of an elevator, and the upgrade of commercial access from both Main and Front Streets. The room renovations will involve new bathroom fixtures, modern hotel furnishings, and attractive common passageways as well as air handling and other upgrades. Improvements will be made to sound proofing and air handling within the rooms, leading to a large scale improvement in guest experience. NVD also plans to celebrate Yukon First Nations and the mining industry with decorative touches in the rooms and common areas. “We have seen significant improvement in both Average Daily Rates and occupancy levels following major renovation programs at the Best Western Gold Rush Inn and the Coast High Country Inn in Whitehorse, and our location in Dawson – the Downtown Hotel – which we co-own with Chief Isaac Inc.” said Thompson. “Guest satisfaction is enhanced when we invest in both the product quality and the service levels from our professional hotel team and the Edgewater has not received the same level of attention as our other properties up until now”. NVD is excited about the changes it is making and will hold an open house in the spring to show off the new look to local audiences before the property re-opens for guest stays in April 2017. About NVD: Northern Vision Development Limited Partnership operates hotels and develops and manages commercial and residential real estate primarily located in Whitehorse, Yukon. The company’s hotel division offers 214 rooms through three properties in Whitehorse and 59 rooms in the Downtown Hotel in Dawson which it co-owns with its partner Chief Isaac Inc. NVD LP is approximately 40% owned by Yukon First Nations and has operated in the Yukon since 2004. For more information please contact: Rich Thompson, CEO rthompson@nvdlp.com (403) 660-0073
