The Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce has been working for years helping local businesses be successful through workshops, seminars and courses. Thanks to partners such as Crowe MacKay, Aasman Brand Communications, Visionary Seeds and now BDO, we have developed a series of workshops and courses that last year benefitted 143 businesses in Whitehorse. The comments from the participants have been excellent. As well, our partners keep the workshops up-to-date with all of the most current information in their field of expertise. We are now announcing the Fall/Spring series of workshops/courses. HR 101 and Marketing Communications 101, which started in September will run again in the Spring. Small Business Tax Changes will Affect Yukon’s Small Business Community

Minister Morneau, Minister of Finance for the Canadian Government, addressed the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s AGM last weekend. The result of that presentation, and Minister Morneau’s responses to questions, implied that the Government was going to proceed with the new Small Business tax proposals - it seems that it is a done deal. He then said the consultation period will end October 2, 2017. The Yukon and Whitehorse Chambers of Commerce hosted an information session on Thursday September 28 at the Westmark Whitehorse. Crowe MacKay, among other accounting firms, has been researching the impact of the proposed changes on small businesses and presented their findings at the meeting. The link below is the Canadian Chamber ’s response to Minister Morneau. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/chamber-of-commerce-tax-reform-opposition-1.4305868 If you have the time and would like to read additional information on this issue please find links below that discuss the proposed Small Business Tax changes: Department of Finance, Overview http://www.fin.gc.ca/n17/data/17-066_1-eng.asp Department of Finance, Technical Briefing http://www.fin.gc.ca/n17/data/tppc-pfsp-eng.pdf Deloitte, Canadian Tax Alert http://images.info.deloitte.ca/Web/DeloitteManagementServicesLP/%7Ba90195f10e3d-459b-8fd9-9827fe702468%7D_en_DP_income_splitting_AODA.PDF Deloitte, Videos https://www2.deloitte.com/ca/en/pages/tax/articles/tax-publications-deloitte-private.html As well, the Chambers have sent a letter addressed to the Minister, and our MP Larry Bagnell to let them know our concerns about the degree that these changes will impact your business, your succession planning and your tax planning. Hey Whitehorse Businesses: Do you handle or sell food products?

The City is proposing changes to the Waste Management Bylaw that would require Food Service Providers and Multi-Family dwellings to have organic waste collection services.

City Council has made organic diversion a top strategic priority!

Organic waste causes serious pollution in our landfill, but can be composted into rich valuable soil in the City’s compost facility. This is a win! Reduce pollution while creating valuable soil!

3,000 tonnes!

The Food Service and Multi-Family sectors are the largest producers of organic waste! Roughly 3,000 tonnes of organic waste enters the landfill each year from the commercial sector.

What Changes are coming? The City of Whitehorse is planning to change the Waste Management Bylaw so that Food Services, and then Multi-Family residents, will be required to have organics collection.

How will you be affected? Come join us for a light breakfast while we discuss the proposed Bylaw changes and implementation roll-out: October 3rd, 8:30am to 9:30am October 5th, 8:30am to 9:30am - downtown core

RSVP by September 29th Bryna Cable - 668-8312 or organics@whitehorse.ca
