PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September o4, 2020

Atlin is open for Business Atlin is an unincorporated northern B.C. community where business and commerce are represented by the Atlin District Board of Trade. We follow the Atlin Official Community Plan in agreement with the Province of B.C. The Atlin Community Plan consists of an area spanning from the O’Donnell River in the south, the Indian Creek to the north, Atlin Lake to the west and Sentinel Mountain, Idaho Peak and Mount Edmund taking up the eastern boundary. Within this area the Taku River Tlingit (TRT) occupies a number of recognized reserve lands. TRT’s occupied areas are currently the Five Mile Reserve (down Warm Bay Road), the Village which is located just south of the Atlin core. Other areas considered TRT reserve lands are the Como ATELP Service area and a portion of MacDonald Lake Recreational area (see attached map). We ask that you honour TRT’s request to refrain from entering these TRT areas at this time to respect TRT’s COVID 19 Restrictions. The Atlin District Board of Trade (Incorp. 1904) invites you to continue to visit Atlin. Businesses are asking that you respect their approved COVID-19 Safety Plans and please visit the www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/prevention-risks/travel For clarification about the current B.C. My love letter to Atlin.... By Cyndi Knill

September 9, 2020

I have been to Atiln on 2 previous occasions and basked in her beauty via adventures into the vast wilderness in Uncle Archie’s beloved Dodge Dakota, from the sky in the mighty Beaver and on the lake on amazing boat trips. These 2 most recent trips to Atlin in June/July and August/September of 2020 I saw her true and real beauty in the people and the community! Archie Knill is a much beloved uncle and he needed some help, I am retired, so I offered to fly up and assist. I cannot express how much this community has helped me achieve the task at hand, on behalf of the whole Knill family please accept our thanks for your support of our little treasure, Uncle Archie! First the Atlin Supportive Care Society, Nita Connolly is a celestial being here on earth! Fiona Harrington (and her Mom Connie), Pierette Kavangh (also pulled her husband Dave in to help), Sheree Newell and Sophie Carlson (what her and I could accomplish in an afternoon, amazing). I am so pleased to now call all these amazing people friends! The team at the Atlin Health Centre, Dolores, Rosie & Jen, for looking after Archie with such personal care and helping me with testing for Covid so I did not have to quarantine on my first visit. Scott Cole, your friendship, support and kindness to Archie has been amazing, you are a true example of the best of your profession. Len & Edie Graft, for welcoming me at the Atlin Inn on my first visit during these trying times and for your friendship and visits with Archie. Dale & Loraine Jenkins, longtime friends of Archie’s from Fort Nelson days, your support with the home and the yard has been greatly appreciated. Chris & Sue Moser, thank you for giving Uncle Archie a true Red Letter Day with our amazing flight yesterday, it was the happiest I have seen him since I arrived and the first time he held his camera. He looked at the photos for hours after we arrived home. He cannot stop talking about it! There are so many more people to thank; I hope I do not leave anyone out: Kate Fisher & Family, Dorothy Odian, Lynne Phipps, Barb Tait, Gary Thoma ‌.Last but not least, Elizabeth Clarke for being my rock and listening when I just needed an ear. The support and love I have seen during my weeks in Atlin is unmatched, one would never find this in a large city! It is amazing that this community is helping their elders age gracefully. Archie will be coming with me to Vancouver Island for the winter, we will be back in the spring for a few months. Elizabeth Clarke has his southern contact info. My final thought is a bit of advice to the young women of the world that think their role models are on Instagram or the Real Housewives of whatever or the Kardashians. I say look north to Atlin, that is where the real women are, strong, independent and will take on all challenges with grace. With warmest regards, Thank you Atlin. Cyndi Knill

& Rose

Northern Gypsy Bluegrass “Stockstill and Rose” are a unique, high energy duo made up of Mike Stockstill on the five string banjo, and Amelia Rose Slobogean on fiddle and vocals. They play a variety of traditional and original tunes ranging from bluegrass and western swing, to gypsy jazz and Eastern European tunes. Between them, they have decades of playing, performing and writing tunes under their belts. In their shows, you can expect to hear everything from backyard chicken scratch pickin’, to dramatic gypsy instrumentals, and many things in between. They both write their own originals, and, while often staying true to the traditional sounds associated with their instruments, they really enjoy pushing boundaries, straying outside of the box and throwing different genres together…all with fiddle, banjo and voice.

“Memories Blur At The Edges” When we move a great distance from the family and friends we grew up with, after a while visits happen only on rare occasions. Over the course of time our memories of people, places and experiences can blur at the edges and the intensity of our emotional attachments diminish unless… We take steps to keep the bonds strong by including them in our cherished moments, exchanging photographs or writings, celebrating their precious times, and…sharing a great recipe or two.
