The Flu Campaign is well underway. Many community members already received their flu shots. Thanks to them for choosing to keep themselves healthy. By protecting yourself, you also protect others you come in contact with. The Health Center staff was happy to see Jeanne George back in Faro for a couple of months. Sadly, she has now returned to Regina, Saskatchewan to start a new position. We hope good things for her and 2K (her dog).

The entire staff wishes all community members a safe and happy Christmas. We also would like to send out good thoughts to those who are in hospital or are not feeling well. We hope family and friends are supportive during these times. Please take care in the cold weather Please use designated drivers when you chose chose to drink chose alcohol. From the Folks Who Help You to Be Healthy.

MORE QUESTIONS……..

A LITTLE COMMON SENSE FROM AN OLD COWBOY ... Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong. Keep skunks and bankers at a distance. Life is simpler when you plow around the stump. A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor. Words that soak into your ears are whispered… not yelled. Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight. Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads. Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you. It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge. You cannot unsay a cruel word. Every path has a few puddles. When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty. The best sermons are lived, not preached. Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway. Don’t judge folks by their relatives. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. Live a good, honorable life… Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time. Don ‘t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t bothering you none. Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a Rain dance. If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’. Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got. The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin’. Always drink upstream from the herd. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment. Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in. If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you. "Most times, it just gets down to common sense." -Michael Traveler

Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety-one? If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea...does that mean that one out of five enjoys it? Why do croutons come in airtight packages? Aren't they just stale bread to begin with? If people from Poland are called Poles, then why aren't people from Holland called Holes? If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled? Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a race car is not called a racist? If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for? If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, then doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed? Do Lipton Tea employees take 'coffee breaks?' What hair color do they put on the driver's licenses of bald men? I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use, Toothpicks? Why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office? What are we supposed to do, write to them? Why don't they just put their pictures on the postage stamps so the mailmen can look for them while they deliver the mail? Is it true that you never really learn to swear until you learn to drive? If a cow laughed, would milk come out of her nose? Whatever happened to Preparations A through G? Why, why, why do we press harder on the remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak? Why do banks charge a fee due to insufficient funds; when they already know you're broke? Why is it that when someone tells you that there are one billion stars in the universe you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint you have to touch it to check? Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard? Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him? Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets? Whose cruel idea was it to put an "s" in the word "lisp"? If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes? Why is it that, no matter what color bubble bath you use, the bubbles are always white? Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale? Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized? Why do people run over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it and then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance? How do those dead bugs get into the enclosed light fixtures? Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over? Why, in winter, do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?

Friendship Feasts is a made in Faro program, it is not affiliated with Social Services, the Faro Health Centre, or any government program. If you are able to make a meal for a family once in a while, please get yourself on the Friendship Feast list. You may get called once in 6 months. To receive meals, you just need to nominate yourself or someone who you know needs meals. Generally, Friendship Feasts provides meals when there has been a death or other hardship in the family, when someone is recovering from an operation or sickness, or when a family brings home a new baby. Getting involved in Friendship Feasts is a great way to get involved in our community and to meet people in town in a meaningful way.

Please remember- someone must call on your behalf or you can call to ask for meals. Our volunteers do not make meals unless we have been asked.

FARO RCMP DETACHMENT Happy Holidays!!! It looks like winter is finally here to stay. Faro RCMP would like to remind Faro residents to be extra vigilant while driving in the winter conditions. Allow yourself a little extra time and be prepared for weather and road conditions before leaving home. This includes packing warm clothes in the event of breakdown and having people expecting you at your destination. Faro RCMP would like to remind everyone to be aware of possible scams. These can present in the form of mail, e-mail, phone calls or in person inquiry. If your offered a deal that looks too good to be true, it likely is just that! Please don’t be fooled, if you are approached feel free to attend the detachment to discuss any inquiry that doesn’t seem right to you. Snow removal activities often lead to the creation of snow banks and snow piles that can obscure vision and create blind spots at intersections. These same snow piles are also attractive to the young folks looking for a place to play. Please instruct your young ones not to dig holes in or slide down snow banks adjacent to the road. Snow removal activities take place at all hours of the day and youth in a snow cave or sliding into the road may not be seen in time to avoid an accident. Faro RCMP would like to commend the organizers of the Remembrance Day Services. RCMP were very honored to participate and the turn out by the community was remarkable. With the holiday season approaching very quickly we all look forward to a time of fun and celebration. Take the time with family and friends to watch out for those who may make a poor decision and get into their car or recreational vehicle when maybe they should make other arrangements. Regardless if it is a snowmobile, ATV or a vehicle we all have to help ensure Faro has a safe and happy holiday by preventing drinking and driving. The local detachment would like to invite everyone to attend our Christmas open House December 14th 10am –noon. Hope to see you there. Wishing you a Safe Holiday season. To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 994-5555 or 1-867-667-5555. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

Department of Environment Well the temperature has finally dropped and the signs that winter has set in for a while are evident. It is a great time of year to relax and enjoy the reflection of our Yukon summer that has past. We would like to thank all the Faro hunters that were so diligent this past fall in reporting their harvest from behind the mine in such a timely manner. Faroites were again very responsible this past summer and fall with managing wildlife attractants around their homes. As a result there were very few bear occurrences in the Faro area and the few we did have were a direct result of the abundant berries in and around the community. Next spring we will have to look at finding a way to reduce these occurrences as well. Home owners could assist by removing large soap berry bushes around their yards while continuing to ensure that the other attractants are also managed. I will be sure to discuss this in the spring offering a reminder before our furry neighbors arrive. With the on-set of winter, the concerns of human-wildlife conflicts do not go away however. We all need to be mindful of the local fox population around Faro and continue to care for household garbage and pet food responsibly. If a Fox becomes accustomed to getting food or even worse being fed by someone, the potential for disaster is huge. There are many kids in town who spend a lot of time outside and a Fox begging for food from a child can be very scary for the child. The natural response for a Fox (and most wildlife) is to nip and bite to try to get the food. This is not generally out of aggression but simply to try to get fed. This is a situation that we all want to avoid. All though they look cute and harmless, please do not feed the foxes. Ultimately it will do more harm to the animal than good as there are very few options for the animal if someone is bit by a fox. If you have specific concerns, please feel free to contact me. As with other years, the Bison hunt will be occurring again this year. For those interested in hunting bison, the Dept. of Environment in strongly encouraging hunters to harvest a cow. If you are planning on a hunting trip, I would encourage you to contact our office before you head out. Good luck to those hunters. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and we are looking forward to the New Year.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!

TJ & Leithe
