USELESS FACTS

Every human spent about half an hour as a single cell * The original IBM-PCs that had hard drives, referred to the hard drives as Winchester drives. This is due to the fact that the original Winchester drive had a model number of 3030. This is, of course, a Winchester firearm. * A chip of silicon a quarter-inch square has the capacity of the original 1949 ENIAC computer, which occupied a city block. * Bill Gates' first business was Traff-OData, a company that created machines which recorded the number of cars passing a given point on a road. The average McDonald's Big Mac bun has 198 sesame seeds on it

Top 12 WORST jokes EVER (Because laughter is good for you)

1) Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love, and got married. The ceremony wasn’t much, but the reception was excellent. 2) A jumper cable walks into a bar, the bartender says “I’ll serve you, but don’t start anything”. 3) A dyslexic man walks into a bra. 4) A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and says “A beer please, and one for the road”. 5) Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other “Does this taste funny to you?” 6) Man goes to see the doctor and says “Doc, I can’t stop singing The Green Green Grass of Home”. Doctor says “it sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome”. “Is it common?” the man asks. Doctor says “Well, it’s not unusual”. 7) What do you call a fish with no eyes? A FSH. 8) Two Inuit were sitting in a kayak. They were cold so they made a fire. The Kayak sank, proving “you can’t have your kayak and heat it too”. 9) A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the hotel Manager came out and asked them to disperse. “But why?” they asked as they moved off. “Because” he said “I can’t stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer”. 10) An invisible man marries an invisible woman. Their kids were noting to look at either. 11) A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One goes to a family in Egypt, who name the boy “Ahmal”. The other goes to a family in Spain who name the boy “Juan”. Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, the woman tells her husband she wishes she had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds “Why? They’re twins! If you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Ahmal”. 12) Mahatma Ghandi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which caused severe callouses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail. With his odd diet, he also suffered from bad breath. This of course made him a “super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis”.

The local phone book has only one yellow page. You leave your jacket on the back of the chair in the cafe, and when you go back the next day, it’s still there, on the same chair. You don’t signal turns because everyone knows where you’re going, anyway. You call a wrong number and they supply you with the correct one. A “Night on the Town” takes only 11 minutes. The New Year’s baby was born in October. You can name everyone you graduated with. There is no point in high-school reunions because everyone knows what everyone else is doing anyway. You said the ‘f’ word and your parents knew within the hour. You schedule parties around the schedule of different police officers, since you know which ones would bust you and which ones wouldn’t. It was cool to date someone from the neighboring town. The whole school went to the same party after graduation. You decide to walk somewhere for exercise and 5 people pull over and ask if you need a ride. Your teachers call you by your older siblings names. Your teachers remember when they taught your parents. Being able to hit a road sign with a beer bottle while driving down the highway is considered a necessary skill. The best burgers in town are at the rink. You know exactly where to go when the party is at “the lake”. You can’t help but date a friend’s ex-girlfriend/boyfriend. Weekend excitement involves a trip to a Wal-Mart. You laugh your butt off reading this because you know they’re all true and forward it to everyone who lives in your town! (because you know them all!) Reader Submitted!

It’s hunting season…… be careful out there.! WHO HAD THESE?

Friendship Feasts is a made in Faro program, it is not affiliated with Social Services, the Faro Health Centre, or any government program. If you are able to make a meal for a family once in a while, please get yourself on the Friendship Feast list. You may get called once in 6 months. To receive meals, you just need to nominate yourself or someone who you know needs meals. Generally, Friendship Feasts provides meals when there has been a death or other hardship in the family, when someone is recovering from an operation or sickness, or when a family brings home a new baby. Getting involved in Friendship Feasts is a great way to get involved in our community and to meet people in town in a meaningful way.

If you are not on the list, please call KARA WENT at 994-3114 to sign yourself up! We are always looking for new folks who are able to provide a meal.

FARO RCMP DETACHMENT Happy Hunting,

Faro RCMP would like to welcome hunters visiting Faro this season and wish you good luck. Back country; before you embark on your trip please ensure you’re prepared. Part of that preparation is establishing a plan laying out duration, route and destination. Please identify and leave that plan with a responsible person to monitor your safe return. If plans include spending time on the many lakes and rivers; please be mindful that all the recent rain has had an effect on water levels and currents are strong. Please ensure life jackets are worn and you have on board the safety equipment you would need in an emergency. Please wait until you’re safely off the water and out of the woods before consuming alcoholic beverages to celebrate your hunt. Campgrounds close mid-September hope you get out for the last couple weekends of camping. School is back in session! Welcome to the new and returning teachers, hope you had a great summer. With the return to school comes children playing and not always paying attention, please take the time to slow down and give them some extra room when meeting them along the roadways. Parents driving kids to school please remember to wear your seatbelts and make sure the little ones follow your lead. Faro RCMP would like to invite anyone interested in becoming a Guard/Matron to please attend the detachment for information to apply. We are seeking guards which is a paid position, please come by for details. We are also seeking Auxiliary Constables. If you are interested in this very rewarding and important volunteer aspect of Community Policing please stop by our detachment for more information. Friendly reminder, it’s a good time to have furnaces and stoves cleaned and inspected to save you money and keep you safe. Remember to check the function and replace batteries in CO2 and smoke alarms. Have a great September! To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 994-5555 or 1-867-667-5555. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

Department of Environment As you read this, hunting season has begun! We have the new Hunting Regulation Summary booklets in the office now, and encourage everyone to pick up a couple of copies. We are anticipating another busy fall around Faro this year, and would like to remind everyone of the voluntary reporting of moose harvested behind Faro (GMSZ 4-42 to 4-46). You can report your kill at any Environment office or you can call the information in as well, either to 994-2862 or 1-800-661-0525. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in this program. We also wish to remind hunters that all big game kills must must be reported must (aside from the voluntary reporting). Consult the Hunting Summary for specifics. Throughout the fall, Conservation Officers and RCMP Officers will be conducting field inspections and roadside check stops to monitor hunting activities. This work is intended to determine compliance with the regulations, as well as to show a presence in the field, which itself “keeps people honest. We appreciate your cooperation and courtesy during these inspections. We would like to also take this opportunity to remind people using the outdoors that if you observe or suspect a violation, to please contact us as soon as possible. People who report violations can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward through our Turn in Poachers/Polluters (TIP) program. TJ & Leithe

ATTENTION HUNTERS The Faro Mine Complex is an active site with moving industrial equipment and crews working in remote areas off the roads and trails with a number of different contractors. Please be careful for your safety and the safety of Faro Mine Complex staff, workers and contractors. We also remind you to please leave no trace and properly dispose of all waste (trash, toiletries, food scraps, grey water) to avoid attracting bears or other wildlife into the area. Please see security staff at the Faro Mine Complex guardhouse to report any concerns or contact the local Conservation Office at 994-2862

Thank you for your cooperation. TEES is contracted by Government of Yukon to provide care and maintenance services at the Faro Mine Complex as part of the Faro Mine Remediation Project.

September 9 - Full Moon. The Moon will be directly opposite the Earth from the Sun and will be fully illuminated as seen from Earth. This phase occurs at 01:38 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Corn Moon because the corn is harvested around this time of year. This moon is also known as the Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the September equinox each year.

September 23 - September Equinox. The September equinox occurs at 02:29 UTC. The Sun will shine directly on the equator and there will be nearly equal amounts of day and night throughout the world. This is also the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere. • September 24 - New Moon. The Moon will be directly between the Earth and the Sun and will not be visible from Earth. This phase occurs at 06:14 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.
