The Lost Guinea Pig Once upon a time, in a town called Brinsburg, there lived two best friends named Alex and Emma. One morning, the girls went for their morning walk in the beautiful forest in the winter air. While they were going along the curvy path, they saw a guinea pig sitting in the leaves under a tree. He had short, black soft fur and a white stripe. He had a blue collar with a tag on it. Alex and Emma picked up the guinea pig, looked at the tag and found out his name was Stripes. He was lost. Alex and Emma took Stripes and walked all around Brinsburg, trying to find his owners. They knocked on everyone's door, showing people Stripes, and no one knew him or saw him before. They were so tired after that, they went home and had a little nap. Theirs woke up at the same time, because they both remembered there was one house left. There was a little cabin in the woods, down a dirt path. Alex and Emma took Stripes and went into the woods to the cabin. They knocked on the door and a girl with red eyes and a sad face opened the door. She looked like she had been crying. She said, "I'm sorry, I lost my little guinea pig outside and I am very sad." Alex and Emma looked at each other with wide eyes, and held up Stripes for the girl to see. They asked, "Is this your guinea pig?" The girl started smiling really big, she clapped her hands and hopped around. She hugged Alex and Emma, and thanked them so much. Everyone lived happily ever after. By Lydia

Friendship Feasts is a made in Faro program, it is not affiliated with Social Services, the Faro Health Centre, or any government program. If you are able to make a meal for a family once in a while, please get yourself on the Friendship Feast list. You may get called once in 6 months. To receive meals, you just need to nominate yourself or someone who you know needs meals. Generally, Friendship Feasts provides meals when there has been a death or other hardship in the family, when someone is recovering from an operation or sickness, or when a family brings home a new baby. Getting involved in Friendship Feasts is a great way to get involved in our community and to meet people in town in a meaningful way. Please remember- someone must call on your behalf or you can call to ask for meals. Our volunteers do not make meals unless we have been asked. If you are not on the list, please call KARA WENT at 994-3114 to sign yourself up! We are always looking for new folks who are able to provide a meal.

FARO RCMP DETACHMENT

April is here and with it some warmer temperatures!! We would like to commend and recognize the Organizing Committee & Volunteers involved in this year’s Pelly River Hockey Challenge on a job well done. You ensured Faro was well represented and that this year’s event was a huge success. We would like to extend our thank you to the chaperones and Youth from Watson Lake, Ross River, are Pelly Crossing that attended. We hope to see you all again next year for this great event. We’d like to say a thank-you to the Town of Faro and all the volunteers that made the hockey and skating season a great success through all your work at the rink. Monday March 30th will be the last skate of the season. The rink has been a real source of pride and offers a positive environment for Social gathering. Thanks for all your assistance. Many of our favorite outdoor activities (ice fishing) take place near or one lake/river ice. Beware that ice conditions are rapidly changing and ensure you check the ice thickness before walking, skiing snowmobiling or fishing on it. Observe the ice color and test the thickness before venturing out. The Robert Campbell Highway is almost cleared of snow and with the exposed dry asphalt the RCMP have observed a marked increase in speeding offences. The RCMP will continue to make regular patrols and will issue violation tickets to those who cannot manage their driving speed. Please slow down. Let’s work together to ensure our highways are safe for locals and people visiting us. With Spring upon us it’s time to start thinking about kids and bikes. Parents be sure to provide your child with a properly fitting helmet and ensure they wear it. Motorist - take a minute to slow down and give lots of room when passing a cyclist. Many cyclists are just learning to balance and their focus may be divided between surroundings and staying upright. The RCMP would like to thank the Del Van Gorder School administration, Grade 1/2 teacher Vicky FITZPATRICK, the grade 1/2 students and the parents for actively participating in the Top Cop Reading Program. The program was very successful with three students reaching the RCMP Commissioner’s Rank. Good job everyone. We plan to offer and expand the reading program next year. Happy Easter to everyone and have a safe April. To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 994-5555 or 1-867-667-5555. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

Turn off burner (if you are using an electric stove – remove from heat.) Step 4: Slowly stir in 10 cups of water to the mixture. Step 5: Let cool. The mixture will thicken while cooling. (Approx. 6-8 hours) Step 6: Once the mixture has thickened, blend with electric hand mixer till it is smooth. LOOK UP! April 4 - Full Moon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 12:05 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Pink Moon because it marked the appearance of the moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the first spring flowers. This moon has also been known as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Growing Moon, and the Egg Moon. Many coastal tribes called it the Full Fish Moon because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn. April 4 - Total Lunar Eclipse. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes completely through the Earth's dark shadow, or umbra. During this type of eclipse, the Moon will gradually get darker and then take on a rusty or blood red color. The eclipse will be visible throughout most of North America, South America, eastern Asia, and Australia. April 13 - 18 - International Dark Sky Week. International Dark Sky Week is held during the week of the new moon in April. It is a week during which people worldwide turn out their outdoor lights in order to observe the wonders of the night sky without light pollution. It has been endorsed by the International Dark-Sky Association, the American Astronomical Society, the Astronomical League. So go ahead and turn out your outdoor lights this week to appreciate the beauty of the night sky! April 18 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 18:56 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere. April 22, 23 - Lyrids Meteor Shower. The Lyrids is an average shower, usually producing about 20 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by dust particles left behind by comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher, which was discovered in 1861. The shower runs annually from April 1625. It peaks this year on the night of the night of the 22nd and morning of the 23rd. These meteors can sometimes produce bright dust trails that last for several seconds. The first quarter moon will set shortly after midnight, leaving fairly dark skies for the what could be a good show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Lyra, but can appear anywhere in the sky. April 25 - International Astronomy Day. Astronomy Day is an annual event intended to provide a means of interaction between the general public and various astronomy enthusiasts, groups and professionals. The theme of Astronomy Day is "Bringing Astronomy to the People," and on this day astronomy and stargazing clubs and other organizations around the world will plan special events. You can find more about Astronomy Day by checking the Web site for the Astronomical League.
