Friendship Feasts is a made in Faro program, it is not affiliated with Social Services, the Faro Health Centre, or any government program. If you are able to make a meal for a family once in a while, please get yourself on the Friendship Feast list. You may get called once in 6 months. To receive meals, you just need to nominate yourself or someone who you know needs meals. Generally, Friendship Feasts provides meals when there has been a death or other hardship in the family, when someone is recovering from an operation or sickness, or when a family brings home a new baby. Getting involved in Friendship Feasts is a great way to get involved in our community and to meet people in town in a meaningful way.

Please remember- someone must call on your behalf or you can call to ask for meals. Our volunteers do not make meals unless we have been asked. If you are not on the list, please call KARA WENT at 994-3114 to sign yourself up! We are always looking for new folks who are able to provide a meal.

FARO RCMP DETACHMENT Faro RCMP would like to thank and congratulate all the volunteers and participants of the Golf Tournament. RCMP members participated and had a great time. Organisers deserve a huge pat on the back for operating a fun, safe, and well attended event. The Faro community was well represented and positive comments from all who visited our town were heard everywhere we went. Great job! Traffic notes; Speeding & seatbelts: We will continue enforcement efforts related to speeding and seat belts. Please check your speed and remember the speed limits. The speed limits are an important aspect of traffic safety. The speed limit within the Town of Faro remains at 30kms/hr. Back country: Hunting season is here, our area is popular with local hunters as well as those from away; before you embark on your trip please ensure you’re prepared. An important of that preparation is establishing a plan laying out duration, route, and destination. Please identify and leave that plan with a responsible person to monitor your safe return. If you use a SPOT device; ensure your messages are clear, and the recipients of those messages know how to interpret them, and what to do when they are called upon to help assist you. Faro RCMP would like to warn that we have received complaints of email scams coming from the Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury. They ask the respondent to complete an attached document with personal information and asked that you provide a photocopy of your passport photo. Internet Scams: Fraudsters can sue the internet to promote fraud through unsolicited or junk emails, known as spam. How to Protect Yourself * Don’t provide your personal, credit card, or online banking details over the phone or send through an email *Only your service provider can offer you a better rate or rice for their services *Advertising through recognised media outlets does not ensure the legitimacy of the company behind the ad *Look for a well-established company and check it out with the Better Business Bureau On a personal note, after three years of service in Faro my family and I are transferring to Haines Junction. Faro will definitely be a highlight of our career, and that is thanks to the many great people who call Faro home. I hope we’ve helped to contribute in some small way to your feeling of safety within the community. Our transfer is a cruel reminder that all good things in life must come to an end. I may have stopped being your policeman, but you’ll always remain my friend, Farewell. To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 994-5555 or 1-867-667-5555. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

YUKON DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT August is upon us and with that comes Hunting Season! August 1st is the first day of hunting season and we want to remind all hunters to use care and caution when out hunting. We also want to encourage all hunters to be respectful of workers along the Faro Mine Road. There are people working in the area of the Mine Road and not only right at the Mine itself. The 2014/15 Hunting Regulations Summary is now available at the Conservation Office!

Please note that there are some important changes in the Regulations Summary for Moose hunting in Game Management Subzones 4:44, 4:45 & 4:46 (behind Faro mine). 1) Hunters are required to report their Moose harvest from these three subzones within 72 hours by calling the Environment Yukon main line at 867-6675652, calling the TIP line (1-800-661-0525), or reporting in person to a Conservation office. 2) Once the threshold number of moose (21) has been harvested, an immediate closure will be in effect for the remainder of the season. Hunters interested in the status of the hunt and whether the threshold has been reached can inquire at 867-667-5652 or check Environment Yukon website at www.env.gov.yk.ca. 3) NO Special Guiding available in GMS 4:44, 4:45 or 4:46.

As most people are aware, there are still a few bears hanging around town so please use caution when out and about. There have been several bears removed and relocated outside the area but a couple of sightings of bears have been reported since. Please keep your premises clean and always make sure there is no garbage lying around! We do live in Bear Country so Always‌.Be Bear Aware!! Good luck to all hunters and we wish everyone success in their outings, whatever their purpose may be. Any questions or concerns, please contact us at 994-2862. Stay safe and enjoy the beautiful weather! ď Š Pete & Judy

TURN KEY BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY AND SEPARATE RESIDENCE

Dawson Drive, Faro, YT, Canada

www.thevalleybandb.ca

THANK YOU!! The Valley Bed & Breakfast now has new owners! ☺ It is with pleasure that I announce this but also with a little sadness. We have run this business for 14 years and have taken a lot of pride in keeping this place clean and very well maintained, which we feel is key to attracting customers and to keep them coming back! We will miss it for sure but mostly we will miss all the nice people that we have met and talked with over the years, from all over the world! They have all been amazing!! We want to take this opportunity to send out a big THANK YOU to all of you who supported our business and referred customers to our business!! Our business has grown mostly on ‘word of mouth’ and that is due mostly to people like you. We really appreciate Faro and all the people who have helped and supported us in any way!! We wish the new owners the very BEST in their new business at The Valley B&B and encourage all of you to welcome them with the great Faro hospitality! You will continue to see us around Faro for a while and then, who knows? New adventures await!!

☺☺

Miscellaneous LOOK UP August 12, 13 - Perseids Meteor Shower. The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by comet Swift-Tuttle, which was discovered in 1862. The Perseids are famous for producing a large number of bright meteors. The shower runs annually from July 17 to August 24. It peaks this year on the night of August 12 and the morning of August 13. The thin crescent moon will be no match for the bright Perseids this year so be prepared for a great show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Perseus, but can appear anywhere in the sky. August 14 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 14:53 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere. August 29 - Full Moon, Supermoon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 18:35 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Sturgeon Moon because the large sturgeon fish of the Great Lakes and other major lakes were more easily caught at this time of year. This moon has also been known as the Green Corn Moon and the Grain Moon. This is also the first of three supermoons for 2015. The Moon will be at its closest approach to the Earth and may look slightly larger and brighter than usual. September 1 - Neptune at Opposition. The blue giant planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Neptune. Due to its extreme distance from Earth, it will only appear as a tiny blue dot in all but the most powerful telescopes.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS IN IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS IN AUGUST: AUGUST:

An outgoing personality. takes risks. feeds on attention. no self control. kind hearted. self confident. loud and boisterous. VERY revengeful. easy to get along with and talk to. has an "every thing's peachy" attitude. likes talking and singing. loves music. daydreamer. easily distracted. Hates not being trusted. BIG imagination. loves to be loved. hates studying. in need of "that someone". longs for freedom. rebellious when withheld or restricted. lives by "no pain no gain" caring. Always a suspect. playful. mysterious. "charming" or "beautiful" to everyone. stubborn. curious. independent. strong willed. a fighter.
