FARO RCMP DETACHMENT Hello everyone it’s nice to see that the cold weather has finally broken for now. So there is not much to report from the RCMP except for a couple of things Due to the weather getting warmer and people are starting to head out onto the ice to do some fishing. The RCMP would like to remind people to be aware of the ice thickness if you are taking your vehicles out onto the ice. If you would like to know more about ice safety, google “Weight Restriction Ice Safety “there is a lot of good information on those websites to keep everyone safe. If you are going to be outside and enjoying the warm weather keep in mind as the sun goes down the temperatures will also go down as well. A good practice is to dress in layers so that you can add and take off clothing in order to reduce sweating. Remember regulating your body temperature is key to avoiding hypothermia. The Faro RCMP would also like to remind people that with the thawing and freezing of snow please keep your speeds in mind when travelling on the Robert Campbell Highway and adjust your speeds accordingly. It has been brought to the RCMP attention that some people in the community has been receiving phone calls or texts in regards to their banking information is compromised. Please do not respond to these texts or phone calls and DO NOT give out your personal info. If you have any concerns about your banking info contact your banking institute directly. You can report these incidents to the RCMP or you can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Agency and provide them with the information as well. The RCMP has noticed also that people are taking to Social Media to advise people of possible criminal activity. The Faro RCMP encourages people to contact us if there is suspicion of possible criminal activity taking place. The longer it takes for the RCMP to get the information the more difficult it makes it for us to investigate. So please contact the RCMP as soon as you notice something illegal is happening. All in all everything is great in Faro, the days are getting longer and the temperatures are getting warmer. So I hope everyone gets outside and enjoy this wonderful weather. The Faro RCMP is hoping to see people out and about and we will keep our ice fishing gear handy to join in with you. With saying that don’t forget to have your fishing license handy just in case the Conservation Officers are out and about and ask for it.

Cst Byron MACLEAN Faro RCMP ****************************************************************************

To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 911. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. ***************************************************************************** Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

Miscellaneous LOOK UP March 8 - Jupiter at Opposition. The giant planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Jupiter and its moons. A medium-sized telescope should be able to show you some of the details in . Jupiter's cloud bands. A good pair of binoculars should allow you to see Jupiter's four largest moons, appearing as bright dots on either side of the planet. March 9 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 01:54 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere. March 9 - Total Solar Eclipse. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon completely blocks the Sun, revealing the Sun's beautiful outer atmosphere known as the corona. The path of totality will only be visible in parts of central Indonesia and the Pacific Ocean. A partial eclipse will be visible in most parts of northern Australia and southeast Asia. (NASA Map and Eclipse Information) (NASA Interactive Google Map) March 20 - March Equinox. The March equinox occurs at 04:30 UTC. The Sun will shine directly on the equator and there will be nearly equal amounts of day and night throughout the world. This is also the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere. March 23 - Full Moon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 12:02 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Worm Moon because this was the time of year when the ground would begin to soften and the earthworms would reappear. This moon has also been known as the Full Crow Moon, the Full Crust Moon, the Full Sap Moon, and the Lenten Moon. March 23 - Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth's partial shadow, or penumbra. During this type of eclipse the Moon will darken slightly but not completely. The eclipse will be visible throughout most of extreme eastern Asia, eastern Australia, the Pacific Ocean, and the west coast of North America including Alaska.

The first ever (and possibly annual) Faro Carpet Bowl Tournament was held Saturday the 25th. 5 teams of 4 each participated, with cash prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Scoring was determined as follows: the team with the most wins is awarded 1st place, and subsequently lesser wins determine 2nd and 3rd. If there is a tie in the number of wins then the total number of points earned from each game determines the winner. After 4 games each, 3 teams each had 3 wins. As stated, the total number of points was then added....and all 3 teams had exactly the same number of points - a 3-way tie for 1st place!
