FARO RCMP DETACHMENT Hello everyone it is so nice to see the sun shining brighter and longer these days. We see lots of people out and about enjoying the weather. The Faro RCMP has wrapped up its winter Recreational Activities and would like to thank all the kids that came out to the Learn To Skate and Junior Hockey. These two programs were a hit and the kids had fun. Congratulations to everyone for the hard work and dedication. Cst DRAPEAU wrapped up his Top Cop Reading program. The kids involved with this awesome program logged in over 900 minutes of reading combined. Cst DRAPEAU dressed up in his Red Serge and with help from Cst MACLEAN and Cst POTTER had a graduation ceremony that involved an obstacle course and prizes. Good Job KIDS !!!

The Faro RCMP would also like to remind people that with the thawing and freezing of snow please keep your speeds in mind when travelling on the Robert Campbell Highway and adjust your speeds accordingly. Given the nice weather and spring coming upon that usually means increased traffic on the Robert Campbell Highway. With this being said the Faro RCMP will be out conducting patrols and vehicle check stops. The goal for this increased presence is to help deter speeding, educate and check the sobriety of drivers. Finally it was brought up at a Town & Council but I would like to let the Town Of Faro know that we are anticipating the arrival of Cst Chris CHRISTINGER sometime in the spring/summer of this year. Cst CHRISTINGER is transferring from Old Crow and he is bringing with him his wife and 3 young daughters. All in all everything is great in Faro, the days are getting longer and the temperatures are getting warmer. So I hope everyone gets outside and enjoy this wonderful weather keeping mind that if you are driving your ATV or snowmobile please wear your helmets and have your snowmobile and ATV registered and insured. Cst Byron MACLEAN, Faro RCMP ****************************************************************************

To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 911. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. ***************************************************************************** Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

Miscellaneous LOOK UP May 6, 7 - Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower. The Eta Aquarids is an above average shower, capable of producing up to 60 . meteors per hour at its peak. Most of the activity is seen in the Southern Hemisphere. In the Northern Hemisphere, the rate can reach about 30 meteors per . hour. It is produced by dust particles left behind by comet Halley, which has known and observed since ancient times. The shower runs annually from April 19 to May 28. It peaks this year on the night of May 6 and the morning of the May 7. The waxing gibbous moon will block out many of the fainter meteors this year. But if you are patient, you should be able to catch quite a few of the brighter ones. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Aquarius, but can appear anywhere in the sky. May 10 - Full Moon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 21:42 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Flower Moon because this was the time of year when spring flowers appeared in abundance. This moon has also been known as the Full Corn Planting Moon and the Milk Moon. May 17 - Mercury at Greatest Western Elongation. The planet Mercury reaches greatest western elongation of 25.8 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Mercury since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the morning sky. Look for the planet low in the eastern sky just before sunrise. May 25 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 19:45 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.
