FARO RCMP DETACHMENT

Hello to everyone in Faro, well I am hoping that we have finally seen the last of the rain for a while. During the month of June there was a terrible accident on the Robert Campbell Highway that I am sure that everyone is aware of. The Faro RCMP want to take the time to really hit home the importance of maintaining a safe speed on the Robert Campbell Highway and what I mean by a safe speed is the actual speed limit. So please always keep your speed in mind and also DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE. There have already been 2 accidents within the Faro RCMP boundaries and this is all due to speeds. As always we will be out patrolling the highway but can’t be everywhere at once and we ask the Town Of Faro to help us by reporting any sort of erratic driving on the highway so that we may be able to intercept these drivers. The Faro RCMP would like to remind everyone that when they are in their boats please where your life jackets and have your boating license and fishing license if you are fishing, again we will be out in our boat whenever we can get the chance. All in all everything is great in Faro we have Canada’s 150th Birthday coming up. Myself and Cst DRAPEAU will be there celebrating this wonderful day with you all. You will see us all dressed up in Red Surge and leading the parade making lots of noise. I will also be volunteering myself to be dunked in the dunk tank. Cst DRAPEAU will be helping out to keep track of the money being donated to dunk myself and other fine people of Faro. Cst DRAPEAU’s time is winding down. I publically want to say thanks to Cst DRAPEAU for everything that he has done for the Town of Faro and of course for showing me the ropes here in Faro. Take care Cst DRAPEAU and may your time in Mayo be as good as it was in Faro.

Cst Byron MACLEAN Faro RCMP **************************************************************************************************

To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 911. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. ***************************************************************************** Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

Prior to completing their work in the Faro area, their supervisor agreed to extend the brush clearing from 450 meters out to the 700 meter rock face. The club will be looking for members with an Argo to help transport the clangers and target backstop to the shooting stations beyond 400 meters. This is great news for all our long range precision shooters. Anyone wishing to become a member contact Tina Henderson at the Bear’s Den B & B ay 334-3096.

Miscellaneous LOOK UP July 9 - Full Moon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be . will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 04:07 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Buck . Moon because the male buck deer would begin to grow their new antlers at this time of year. This moon has also been known as the Full Thunder Moon and the Full Hay Moon. July 23 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 09:46 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere. July 29, 30 - Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower. The Delta Aquarids is an average shower that can produce up to 20 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by debris left behind by comets Marsden and Kracht. The shower runs annually from July 12 to August 23. It peaks this year on the night of July 29 and morning of July 30. The crescent moon will set by midnight, leaving dark skies for what should be a good early morning show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Aquarius, but can appear anywhere in the sky. July 30 - Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation. The planet Mercury reaches greatest eastern elongation of 27.2 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Mercury since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the evening sky. Look for the planet low in the western sky just after sunset.

Honey Garlic Butter Salmon In Foil Ingredients 1/4 cup butter 1/3 cup honey 4 large cloves garlic, crushed 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (juice of 1/2 a lemon) 1.2 kg | 2 1/2 pound side of salmon Sea salt, to taste Cracked pepper, to taste (optional) Lemon slices (to serve) 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley Instructions Position a rack in the middle of the oven. Preheat oven to 375°F | 190°C. Line a baking tray / sheet with a large piece of foil, big enough to fold over and seal to create a packet (or 2 long pieces of foil over lapping each other lengthways to create your salmon packet, depending on the width of you fillet). In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low-medium heat. Add the honey, garlic and lemon, and whisk until the honey has melted through the butter and the mixture is well combined. Place the salmon onto lined baking tray | sheet. Pour the butter/honey mixture over the salmon, and using a pastry brush or spoon, spread evenly over the salmon. Sprinkle with a good amount of salt (about 2 teaspoons) and cracked pepper. Fold the sides of the foil over the salmon to cover and completely seal the packet closed so the butter does not leak. Bake until cooked through (about 15-18 minutes, depending on the thickness of your fish and your preference of doneness). Open the foil, being careful of any escaping steam, and grill / broil under the grill / broiler for 2-3 minutes on medium heat to caramelise the top. Garnish with parsley and serve immediately with lemon slices.
