RIVERSIDE ARTS FESTIVAL RETURNS

This summer, the Yukon Riverside Arts Festival (YRAF) returns to Dawson City from June 1–4

The Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC) has announced the return of the Yukon Riverside Arts Festival (YRAF) for its 23rd consecutive year. This highly anticipated event will take place from June 1–4 in Dawson City and promises to be a vibrant celebration of art and culture in the region.

The festival’s format has fluctuated to adapt to pandemic restrictions, over the last few years, and festival coordinator Maria Sol Suarez Martinez said this year’s preparations felt like they went faster than usual.

“The festival traditionally happened during Disco Days in August,” she said. “There was always so much happening that weekend—there was a ball tournament, a parade, other celebrations … It felt like the festival was an addition to those, rather than its own thing.”

Martinez is happy that the festival does not need to compete with other celebrations and she is excited for a chance to bring people up to Dawson City on a different weekend than the ones they’d typically be up, year by year. This is the Riverside Arts Festival’s second year taking place in early

June, and Martinez hopes it will be a permanent shift.

The YRAF is a free, family friendly event that aims to offer something for everyone. Visitors can enjoy the artist market, featuring a diverse range of handmade crafts and artwork, as well as a hands-on demonstration tent where they can try their hand at a variety of artistic techniques. There will also be activities programmed specifically for children, and all youth are invited to participate.

“It’s like we started to slowly trickle things back in,” said Martinez. “For the

past three years, everything has been different.”

One component Martinez enthusiastically mentions is a live glass-blowing demonstration from the folks at Lumel Studios. “It was wonderful to be able to reach out to them,” she said. “They were super into the idea.”

Live music will also be a highlight of this year’s festival, with a vast lineup of local and regional musicians performing throughout the weekend. The festival will kick off on Thursday, June 1, with a town-wide, self-directed art crawl. As per KIAC, the Gallery Hop is a vibrant event where businesses and community spaces transform into art galleries for

one night. Visitors can interact with local artists and discover their works across different styles, mediums and techniques.

“Everyone is invited to present a project or showcase their artwork, whether it’s 2D, a performance piece, a curated space or an event,” said Martinez. “The cool thing about it is that people who are established, seasoned artists who have a body of work they would like to showcase or sell, can do so in the context of a venue that will be an art gallery for the night.”

YRAF is made possible through the support of local businesses and community partners, as well as funding from the Yukon government and the Government of Canada. For more information on the Yukon Riverside Arts Festival, visit www.kiac.ca

“It’s very different from last year,” said Martinez. “I imagine next year will be very different as well.” ■

Habit is either the best

Do you enjoy the Yukon as I do? Going out and breathing the fresh air. Seeing the clear water of streams and lakes and exploring the environment through urban walks on the trails. Being fascinated by all of this untouched environment and living beside all of those wild animals (and some that eventually wander through your yard. There’s less traffic here than in most parts of the world—and only a small number of highways (see yukoninfo. com/highways for a list of Yukon highways). And, you know, I’m really happy that we have only those (maybe you’re asking yourself, Why?).

First of all, the pristine environment is kept alone in most parts; and second, the “garbage dump” is almost 5,000 kilometres long. What garbage dump? you may ask. I’m talking about all of that junk and garbage along the highways. And I’m wondering why people, on one hand, enjoy this beautiful Yukon and why, on the other hand, they just dump stuff out of their car or truck windows. Do they think it is somehow taken away by somebody? Would it not be easier for them to take that garbage home and throw it in the bin? They (the litterbugs) may think that a can or a bottle or a

plastic piece (or similar), here and there, does not make a difference. Well it does make a difference, as it adds up.

The other day I cleared just a small stretch (200 metres) of the Klondike Highway by where

Unfortunately, the government highway signs that encourage us to “Keep Yukon Clean,” are not helping as much as they should be. Do we really want to show this “picture” of the Yukon to tourists

live. And guess what … I collected 31 cans and 10 other items, which included plastic cups, foil and a glass bottle.

Thanks for understanding. And really … let’s help to keep the Yukon clean! ■

As most adoptions happen in the city, YARN relies heavily on foster homes in the city when pups are ready for adoption. We look after all the vet appointments and adoption applications.

YARN cannot continue accepting litters, unless it has foster homes to care for them in the city, while they find their homes. We are in need of some great Fosters Families to help our little fur-babies when they arrive in Whitehorse.

TACO SMASH BURGER

Burger meets taco. It’s the best of both weeknight staples. Try seasoning the beef with taco seasoning if you’re feeling more taco, or adding a fried egg and some bacon if you’re feeling more breakfast for dinner.

Serves 1.

Ingredients

❑ 6 oz ground beef

❑ 2 small flour tortillas

❑ 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese

❑ Salt and pepper, to taste

❑ Tomato, chopped

❑ Sliced lettuce

❑ Various condiments

❑ Toasted sesame seeds, to garnish

Instructions

• Set the oven at 400°F. Press 4 ounces of ground beef onto each tortilla and season liberally with salt and pepper. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of oil. When shimmering, add the tortilla, meat-side down, and cook until the meat is just pink, about 6 minutes.

• Remove from the pan and place on a baking sheet. Repeat with remaining tortillas, then top with cheese and place in the oven until the cheese is melted, about 4 minutes.

• Top each burger with desired toppings and serve immediately. ■

DEFENDING THE LINE, ACHIEVING MY GOAL

As Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, “Selftrust is the first secret of success.”

Yet many of us are missing this.

Sure, we know what not trusting ourselves feels like. It’s feeling like we’re not good enough. It’s our inner critic having free reign to criticize, guilt and shame us. It’s hiding what we truly want. It’s being stuck and frozen when making a decision.

When we don’t trust ourselves, it’s harder to trust those around us. And we build trust by following through and doing what we say we’re going to do. Often, we can be awesome at following through for others—loved ones, friends, work colleagues—anyone who provides us with validation.

Following through for ourselves, not so much.

A men’s circle can change this. We bring attention and focus to

the places we aren’t showing up for ourselves. We hold each other accountable for the times we don’t follow through and ask “What’s up with that?”

We also challenge one another

to chase more-audacious goals and fight for them. For years, I secretly nurtured an ambition to write some of the stories in my head, but never possessed the courage to act on it.

Then, in summer 2020, the men of this circle gathered around the fire in my Marsh Lake backyard. The easy camaraderie and trust of these particular friendships—plus the liquid courage of a fine scotch—propelled me into sharing an epic tale of how a family from Fermeuse spread out across the country, helped overthrow the federal government and installed the United States of Newfoundland.

The group was mesmerized by the story I’d carried for over a decade. Afterwards, one guy asked where I’d seen this— was it a film or a TV show?

“I made it up,” I replied. “It’s an idea for a novel.”

He grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me. “It’s brilliant! You need to write this.”

Now knowing my secret, somewhat audacious ambition, the men brought their curiosity to bear on it. Tiny, brave sparks of courage, unadorned by alcohol, began to smoulder.

Tonight, 11 men faced off against me. A line of rope lay at my feet. I was tasked with defending this rope, this line on the floor. The rope represented my goal for the upcoming quarter.

Earlier that evening I declared I would write every single day, for at least 30 minutes, for the next three months. It must be creative writing, a story—not something I had to write, not writing for my job, not writing in my journal, not an article.

I also shared the top-three distractions that would hinder me: giving time and energy away to others by not letting go of work on evenings and weekends, and numbing by binge-watching TV and scrolling social media.

Embodying one of my distractions, Charlie was the first to approach and attempt to cross my line. “I need your help, Michael. I’m sad. Come cheer me up. Let’s hang out. Do something fun.”

He danced before me, side to side, then darted to my left. I threw all my weight into forcing

him back. “No! You can handle this. Ask Jeet or Greg to hang out instead. I need to write!”

Warren sprang forward and barrelled into me. “Throw down your pen and paper! I’m a depressing British police show! I’ve won awards!” Laughter made it harder to hold my ground, plus Warren had better moves, twisting out of my grip several times and making another attempt to slide past me.

“You’ll still be there when I’m done writing. No TV until I write!” I protested.

“But … everybody’s watching me! I’ve got seven whole seasons! And a corrupt cop!”

“No!” I pushed him back. The rope moved, but wasn’t crossed. My goal was defended and I possessed a stronger, more-tangible sense of how hard I needed to protect it.

Each man named his goal, that night, and then defended it from the rest of us … each taking turns to embody the distractions and obstacles that would derail us.

Three months later, with the support of the circle to check-in with and hold me accountable, I’d written every single day, and the men celebrated my achieving this goal. I was one step closer to writing my novel.

Are you feeling low in self-trust?

Do you want to turn this around?

Try this exercise: Do the same

simple thing, for yourself, at exactly the same time, every single day. Try getting up earlier, wiping the bathroom sink, prepping a packed lunch, 10 minutes of meditation, or walking for 30. As long as it’s just for you and no one else. Do this at the same time, every day, no matter what.

We can struggle with the selfdiscipline it takes. In a life filled with “shoulds” and “have to’s,” we can default to letting ourselves off the hook; yet, consistency builds habits—and also self-trust.

Do this for 30 days and see if trust in yourself has improved.

Do it for 60. How do you feel now? ■

IN SEARCH OF BOREDOM

How

May Restore Our Declining Attention Spans

As I write this I’m finding it hard to focus. My thoughts dart back and forth, scattered and agitated. I could say that it’s the infectious frenetic energy of spring that’s causing my focus to bounce around like a toddler in a bouncy castle, but I know that’s not true. The robins flying around outside my window, with their beaks full of building materials for their nests, may also be doing so with a frantic sense of urgency, but their actions are purposeful. I, however, can’t say that my jumping from one open tab on my computer to another, every forty seconds, has much purpose.

The problem has been growing over the years. When I noticed it for the first time, I wondered if I was developing ADHD. I remember when I was a kid that I could spend all afternoon stretched out on the couch reading a book, or a whole day in the forest playing with nothing but my imagination and maybe my bike (which I pretended was a horse). I was happy and able to concentrate on one thing for hours.

The world has changed since those long Sunday afternoons, around the turn of the millennium, spent reading an entire book in one sitting. These days reading a magazine, or, more recently, a long Instagram caption, have begun to test the limits of my attention span. My brain has become used to instant gratification and now prefers the dopamine rush that comes from mindlessly scrolling on my phone—over the satisfaction of completing a sensible task in one sitting.

Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me? I suspect I’m not alone since a large number of books have come out, in the last few years, investigating the topic. It seems that many of us are looking for answers and ways to regain control over how we spend our time.

These days we spend mere seconds on one screen before our attention moves to another. Phone to computer to TV, and back to phone. We watch a YouTube video while online shopping, or send texts while binge watching a show on Netflix. And if we’re faced with a couple of minutes of empty time, waiting in line, on public transportation or even in the bathroom, we quickly distract ourselves by scrolling through Facebook.

It could be argued that we’re addicted—addicted to technology, to dopamine, to instant gratification, to digital validation and to constant distraction. Sure, sometimes it’s a phone call or a message notification that pulls our attention away from what we’re doing, but often we actually distract ourselves. A sudden need to check your WhatsApp (or to look something up on Wikipedia) sneaks up on you as you’re working. So, even when we have no external interruptions, we interrupt ourselves.

It’s as if the idea of not being engaged in something all the time

scares us. The modern human being is said to be deficient in a lot of things: vitamin D, exercise, iron, calcium and even nature (i.e., nature-deficit disorder). Maybe there’s a new contender to add to the list: boredom.

You can find countless articles online about how to “combat” boredom, but what if boredom is actually the antidote to the negative impact that digital media and technology has had on our lives and our attention spans? Why is it that we often have the best ideas in the shower, possibly the last frontier of our modern lives where we are forced to be alone, with our thoughts, and can’t pull out our phones?

The simple fact is that we don’t know how to be bored anymore. It’s a muscle that we’ve left to atrophy. We’ve convinced ourselves that we need to be doing or consuming something all the time. Our shorter attention spans get reinforced by Tiktok videos and increasingly shorter content … Even commercials aren’t as long as they used to be. So why is boredom important?

Our modern lives have created an ever-increasing amount of information overload and sensory fatigue, and when we have a few free moments, instead of taking a break we tune into more stimulation. Boredom is the opposite of that. Boredom is restorative. It lets us reflect on who we are and what we want. It allows us to process information, come up with new ideas, plan our futures and be more creative. Boredom can lead to growth, solutions to problems, and self-exploration. And it forces us to find ways to self-regulate.

There’s a growing movement that’s raising awareness about the importance of empty time, idleness, and play for kids. As Glennon Doyle wrote in her book Untamed, “There is so much about phones and children that parents worry about but I find myself worrying most that when we hand our children phones, we steal their boredom from them. As a result we’re raising a generation of writers who will never start writing, artists who will never start doodling, chefs who will never make a mess of the kitchen, athletes who will never kick a ball against a wall, and musicians who will never pick up a guitar and start strumming.”

I’m grateful that I made it through school right before technology took off as much as it has. I got my first cell phone when I was in university, right around the time that Facebook was still only a social network for college students. I’m glad that I had time to daydream and play outside when I was a kid, even though the last two decades have still managed to erode that once-robust attention span. I want to be able to entertain myself like that again—without a device. I want to get through a day without checking my email a hundred times, or reaching for my phone without realizing what I’m doing. Sometimes it feels like we’re all on autopilot, now, and

the constant distractions are simply a way to avoid that frightening realization.

When was the last time that you took 10 minutes to lay on your back and watch the clouds go by (without pulling out your phone to immediately take a picture to share with someone or post on social media)? It seems to me that we need to begin to build up our tolerance again for boredom and idleness. In Italian, it’s called il dolce far niente (the sweetness of doing nothing), and the Dutch call it niksen (the practice or philosophy of intentionally doing nothing). Our society, however, prefers to “kill time” if there’s nothing to do, and these days that generally means distracting ourselves on our phones.

There’s an initial moment of discomfort when you realize you’re alone with your thoughts or can’t distract yourself from the task at hand, but it gets easier with practice. If I regularly read for an hour or so every day, I notice a calmness begin to build up in me after a few weeks. When you exercise consistently, you notice your body gaining stamina, strength and flexibility, and the same seems to be the case with your attention span. Start by focusing on just one thing, like reading a book or writing in a journal. Limit yourself to just one activity at a time. Repetitive tasks, without checking your phone, are also great for allowing

your mind to wander.

Digital detoxes are very popular right now, but our search for boredom doesn’t necessarily have to mean a complete disconnect with technology. An afternoon spent gardening; or an evening walk spent without listening to a podcast, audio book or chatting over the phone, is a great start. Exchange the technology-induced dopamine hits for other happyhormone-producing activities like smelling flowers and getting some sun. Put your phone in airplane mode for a couple of hours, or go fishing and save the selfies to post for later. Let’s learn to be more intentional, once again, with the most precious commodity we

have and will never be able to get back—our time.

Playground Musings

There is something really remarkable about playgrounds.

Who among us doesn’t have core memories of playing with their friends and family at their local park or jungle gym? These moments stay with us and rarely fail to bring about a smile.

Yukon kids have a lot of wonderful options when it comes to outdoor play, and playgrounds provide a perfect opportunity for our little ones to run around, climb, jump and have a grand ol’ time enjoying themselves in the outdoors.

Whether you visit Shipyard’s Park, Rotary Park or one of the many hidden gems nestled throughout Whitehorse neighbourhoods, the options are endless.

And, this time of year is perfect for playground visits. The snow has finally melted away and the

weather is warm enough that you see spring jackets being thrown to the ground as children excitedly run to their favourite slide or swing. You see parents chatting happily with one another, grateful to have some time outside without being bundled up; and picnic lunches are taking place in the surrounding grassy hills.

The playground is the watering hole for the youngest members of our society. Whether they are beginning to walk or are old enough now to venture over with their friends for some socializing, these communal play areas provide a safe place to let loose, be silly and have fun.

My son was just a few months old when I took him to a playground for the first time. We used to have a small one about a fiveminute walk from our home, and I

Racing to his favourite place

remember being so excited to see what his reaction was going to be when I brought him there. I recall the utter joy that appeared on his chubby little face as I pushed him in the swing, and his giggle as I held him in my lap when we took a ride down the slide. It was mes-

merizing for him, and he just got more and more excited as he grew older and was able to navigate the equipment on his own.

It feels like yesterday that I watched him crawl up the little steps and across the platforms. My phone is filled with pictures and

videos of my husband and I helping him climb the ladders—making sure we were there to catch him if he lost his balance. Now, I watch him go at full speed, in his best Jack Sparrow-esque run up to

those same steps, bypassing the infant swings that he no longer fits into.

In moments like this, I think about how these wonderful places for play also serve to measure the passing of time, revealing just how quickly my child is growing up.

And, what a daredevil he is turning out to be.

I catch myself feeling envious of the utter carefree spirit and unfamiliarity of fear that children have when they’re playing. I see them jumping off of equipment or swinging from the monkey bars, and it brings back all the memories of how much fun it was to see a playground as an endless realm of entertainment—full of games to be had and adventures to be taken, with no fear of falling down or getting hurt.

I remind myself of how fantastic that felt—and the importance of not squashing it whenever I want to call out “Be careful” or “Let me help you.” Sure, keeping them safe is important, but you

also don’t want to hold their hand so much that it impedes their demand for independence.

Playgrounds allow children to test themselves—their endurance, stamina and imagination, all the while providing opportunities to develop their bodies and strengthen new skills. And, most importantly, it allows them to just be kids and have fun.

Just last weekend, when I pulled into the parking lot of a local playground, I was treated to the exhilarated squeals of my child as he realized where we were.

“Playground!” he exclaimed as he ran as fast as his little legs could carry him and went straight for the tallest slide he could find … one of those metal ones that I’m sure brings to mind the memories of hot steel against bare legs, for us adult folk.

I watched him climb up to the very top, the eagerness for what was to come brightening up his whole face. Pure joy that overflowed as he lunged his little body forward and slid down as quickly

as humanly possible. I still don’t know if he actually said “Weee!” or if the view of him just emulated that sound in my brain.

With a thud, he flew off the bottom end of the slide as he landed hard in the sand below. That had to hurt, I thought to myself, but sure enough he looked back at me and laughed.

“I landed on my butt!” he declared proudly, as though he had achieved some masterful victory. I couldn’t help but encourage and cheer him on as he raced to do it again.

This experience may not be something he’ll remember as he gets older. But I know that as long as the playground remains a place that he wants to go, I’ll be happy to take him. Mostly because I know that the special times we share together, playing games and fooling around at these magical places, are moments of his childhood that will stay with me forever. For that alone, they’re ohso-special. ■

Clayton’s CAR CARE Tips

BRAKE FLUID

Regular brake fluid changes ensure that a car’s braking system operates safely and effectively. Modern braking systems use brake fluid to transfer the application of the brake pedal down to the front and rear brakes, to bring the vehicle to a stop. The fluid is usually silicone based, which does not compress, giving a solid pedal feel and an increased temperature rating. The downside to using this style of fluid is that it absorbs moisture from the air. Constant braking causes massive amounts of heat to be generated by the braking components, which is then transferred into the fluid. If there is moisture in the fluid, this will decrease the temperature rating of the fluid, and can result in a soft brake pedal and increased stopping distance. Most manufacturers recommend brake fluid changes every 2 years, regardless of kilometres travelled, but it may need to be changed more frequently if the vehicle is operated under abnormal conditions.

The Best Things in Life are… Rescued!

Meet Maple!

She is a 2-year-old, female German Shepherd. Maple is available for adoption from foster. Her foster family really enjoys having her, but it’s time for her to nd her forever home. Visit the link below to see what her foster family they have to say about her:

Maple is outgoing and friendly, she loves to play with other dogs of all sizes. She is smart and learns quickly. She is very tolerant and trusting when it is time for her hip exercises. She would do well in a home with children, with proper introduction of another dog. We do not know how she is with cats.

Maple has been diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia which is likely congenital. The vet believes with proper care and management she is able to live a full and happy life. Potential adopters are encouraged to do their research into the nancial and emotional cost of ensuring a dog like Maple maintains a high quality of life.

If you are interested in adopting Maple, please ll out an online application at humanesocietyyukon.ca. If you already have a preapproved application with us within the last year, call 633-6019 to put your application towards her.

ANIMAL COMMUNICATION

When I tell people I do animal communication, they often tell me that they know what their animals want. When my dog stares at the door, I know he wants or needs to go out. This is the level of animal communication that most people are familiar with. But what if there is so much more to animals than meets the eye?

For most people, communicating with their pet is like trying to talk to their best friend with their hands tied behind their back and their mouth covered in duct tape—not very productive.

Although your animal friend could at least answer yes or no questions, she certainly can’t describe a symptom to a doctor. This is where an animal communicator comes in handy.

One client hired me to communicate with her cat before the cat got spayed. As a result, the whole situation was very relaxed, as the cat understood what was about to happen. She was calm like a cucumber on her first car ride and at the vet clinic. The recovery was also very smooth.

Animal communication can be helpful to let your pets know that you are not abandoning them but are just going to work or going on vacation. This can be especially important for rescues, with abandonment issues, and for Covid pets that were never left alone for more than a brief time, if at all. We have to remember that most of our pets are pack animals and that, for them, safety lies in numbers.

I sometimes have people who are trying to decide if it is time to put down their pets. One dog had been in the vet clinic for a week, unable to stand up. Her owner booked a 45-minute session with me, and right after the session, the animal stood up for the first time.

Her owner was well-meaning and left the dog with a sick friend, but the dog literally couldn’t stand being in that situation. Once the owner understood and agreed to take the dog back, her dog stood up. The vets kept her for observation overnight and she walked out of the vet clinic the next day.

While the vets were unable to help the animal, in that case, vets

are an important part of a pet’s health care. Animal communication can support their work, especially when the pet’s environment is causing the issue.

Learning to communicate with animals opened me up to higher wisdom. When I hit a tough spot in my life, I sit down and channel, which gives me access to higher intelligence in order to solve a problem or find the next step.

My love for animals opened up that avenue. Learning animal communication is like learning to speak the language of the universe.

Animals offer so much to us— from the dogs that brought the serum to Nome, in 1925, to service animals, guide dogs, dogs that sniff out disease, and so much more.

Anyone can learn animal com-

munication, and it is certainly easier than learning another human language. But it requires something that most people struggle with: trusting their intuition. Animals communicate mostly visually, and this is the easiest way to communicate with them. The tricky part is that we need to have unwavering clarity in what we want. A picture is worth a thousand words, but a blurry picture is worth nothing.

I teach people how to recall their dogs by telepathically sending pictures to them so that their people don’t have to yell at them when they are on a walk. Sometimes we just want to see them and know that they are around and not up to some mischief.

When people tell me that they’ve tried animal communication and it didn’t work, the prob-

lem was often that they were trying to get their pets to do something. Animal communication is not about telling animals what to do; it is about opening up an avenue for conversation on a new level. You might ask for their cooperation while respecting their autonomy. At the same time, you still need to provide leadership.

In my experience, animal communication is when our soul is connecting with the soul of the animal. It works for animals that are alive, as well as for those that have passed.

Animals that are alive have needs, according to their species, and leadership is one of them and is non-negotiable. More on that in a later article.

The personality of the animal comes through in communication, to a certain degree. I had one cat

who sounded like Robert DeNiro in the movie Taxi Driver : You talking to me? You never know what you will get, but the messages are always loving and more than what we expect.

When Covid hit and I couldn’t do in-person sessions for training dogs and for hands-on healing, I started with Zoom sessions. I haven’t looked back since. The information was more profound and the healings were so much deeper and on a soul level, which blew my mind.

Remote sessions enable me to now serve animals around the globe. All I need is a picture of the animals and their name … and the magic of animal communication begins. ■

MINE UPDATE

2022 Annual Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Report

In early April, Victoria Gold published its first Annual Sustainability Report, known as the 2022 Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Report. This important document provides detailed information about the Company and the Eagle Gold Mine’s activities and performance relating to key ESG metrics last year.

“With the production of this, our first Annual Sustainability Report, I appreciate the opportunity to highlight our firm commitment to ESG and how Victoria Gold continues to mine responsibly, for the benefit of the territory and its valued residents,” says John McConnell, Victoria Gold President & CEO.

ESG stands for Environment, Social and (Corporate) Governance. It is a set of metrics, or a framework, employed to evaluate a company’s operations relating to its social and environmental impact on the residents and communities within the region it operates and its relationship with its employees and contractors. Governance encompasses a company’s leadership, internal controls and shareholder rights.

Some highlights from Victoria Gold’s 2022 Annual Sustainability Report include:

• Receipt of the AME E.A. Scholz Award for Excellence in Mine Development in BC and the Yukon.

• A strong Health and Safety performance with a Lost-time Incident (LTI) frequency of 0.13%.

• $17 million in direct wages and benefits to its Yukon employee workforce, making Victoria Gold the largest private sector employer in the territory.

• $123 million in procurement from Yukonbased suppliers representing 62% of all goods and services purchased.

• A greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity of 0.37 (Scope 1+2 MTC02E/ounce gold).

“We are pleased to showcase this report, which provides clear information and transparency regarding our key sustainability and performance metrics,” continues McConnell. “While operating in a top North American mining jurisdiction with a long mine life and strong ESG metrics, we have a great story to tell and we are just getting started.”
