Animation Brief

Brief Create a short(ish), visually enthused entertaining and technical frame by frame flash animation using a children始s story or fairy tale as narrative but designed to be equally appealing to all ages.

Background / Considerations Animation is a universally appreciated form of design and it allows for anything that can be imagined to be created in motion, although still can be viewed as being quite childish. The story to be animated will need to be considered in audience range and appropriateness. It could be designed as a set of potential animations. The style of animation will need to be considered as well as language if any, both of which will change the audience. Length will also be important. Some kind of purpose or reason for the animation may need to be decided. Mandatory Requirements The animation should be entertaining for a wider age bracket, not just children.

Deliverables A short animation based around a children始s story or fairy tale.

Cinema Brief

Brief Create and market a weeklong event for Hyde Park Picture House promoting the importance of independent cinema by informing the public and showing a different independent film on every night.

Background / Considerations Independent cinema is a great art form and recent cuts to funding as well as the ongoing financial problems across the world have jeopardised its future, meaning a lot less indy films have been made in recent years. By promoting it始s importance, it can gain support and recognition. The majority of blockbuster films are awful, people just need to know where else they can go. The chosen films will inform a lot of the design. Audiences will be important, films have certificate ratings/ the cinema is in a highly student populated area. Will need to be marketed across a range of media and formats. Identity will need to be created to link everything back to the event and give a professional look. Mandatory Requirements

Deliverables Body of work with resulting appropriate promotional resolutions.

Comic Brief

Brief Redesign covers and packaging for the re-release of the entire set of a graphic novel series.

Background / Considerations Graphic novels and almost entirely sold as separate individual comics and often lack an overall identity that link them together, usually because they are released chronologically and slight changes build up over time. As an entire set they might grab some more appeal, after all they are solely based around images and pictures so the way they look on the outside is important in promoting themselves. Entire sets can also be justified by saving some money when compared to buying them individually. The comics themselves will need to be considered. Audience is important, some series more adult than others. Size of series may inform design. Style of designs; image, type, type & image. Possibility of special edition angle. Mandatory Requirements Each cover/ design needs to be obviously related to all of the others to link them as a set and series.

Deliverables Packaging and cover designs for each comic and the whole series.

Music Brief

Brief Design a set of promotional illustrations for the release of an upcoming album with the focus of creating highly detailed and aesthetically pleasing alternative designs based around shapes and composition of musical instruments related to the band.

Background / Considerations Striking illustrations have a lot of potential to grab attention and promote a product. The album itself will determine a lot about what form the illustrations will take in terms of a kind of style. The number of illustrations on the set will need to be considered. They will probably have to incorporate type and image to communicate properly. Colour will need to be considered, as well as a similar look and feel across the illustrations if they are designed to be obviously linked to one another. Mandatory Requirements

Deliverables A set of promotional illustrations relating to the released of an album.

Skateboarding company/ brand

Brief Create and brand a skateboarding company/ organisation with a focus on designing and continually relating skateboarding directly back to contemporary graphic design.

Background / Considerations All skateboarding brands and companies generally conform to a kind of street-art and graffiti culture feel in their designs. Skateboarding is popular and followed because of the way it looks; it is impressive to watch and is all about the way that it looks. Skateboarding is about aesthetics in movement. There is a clear lack of any kind of existing link between this and contemporary graphic design even though they are both based around the way that things look. The design needs to be considered to avoid the generic grungy look.

Mandatory Requirements The company/ organisation needs to show that it links directly to contemporary graphic design in look and feel. The brand/ identity needs to be able to spread across a range of different applications and products.

Deliverables A brand identity and promotion of the brand across a range of media.
