Renovations thus far have been implemented in two phases with a budget of approximately $4 million dollars. Wheat Ridge Parks and Recreation was awarded two grants to help with the renovation: $400,000 from Jefferson County Open Space for Phase I in 2017-2018, and $512,000 from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) for Phase II this year. The remaining cost for the project is funded by the City’s Open Space Fund and Conservation Trust Fund (Lottery dollars). Long-time Wheat Ridge residents have been enjoying Phase I renovations including a new fullsize football field located east of the softball fields, relocation of the trail south of the field, and renovation of the two softball fields since completion of construction in 2018. Phase II renovations broke ground on November 15th, 2021, with the City of Wheat Ridge, Farrington Construction Management and Design Concepts partnering on the project. After several delays in construction in the winter of 2022 due to muddy and wet site conditions, the park partially re-opened on May 1st, 2022. At this time, demolition was complete, pickleball court concrete was poured and fence posts were installed, new shelter footing was poured and then entry road asphalt was poured. In its entirety, Phase II renovations include replacing the picnic pavilion, replacing the tennis court with pickleball courts, improving the road, parking lots, and sidewalks in the park, replacing the eastern playground, adding a fishing pier and shelter on the northeast side of Prospect Lake, and improving irrigation and landscaping throughout the park. With a full park re-opening in fall 2022, residents will have time to enjoy the new renovations before temperatures drop!
Fitness fanatics can now enjoy the added benefits of getting some vitamin D while they workout! The City of Wheat Ridge Parks & Recreation is getting a freeto-use outdoor fitness court at Panorama Park in 2022. The Fitness Court® by National Fitness Campaign, is an innovative outdoor bodyweight circuit training center designed for adults of all ages and abilities. The court has endless possibilities for custom routines with seven functional training zones, thousands of bodyweight exercises and digital programming. You can download the free Fitness Court® app on the App Store or Google Play, or visit YouTube to access training videos and workouts. In the warmer months, the City plans to offer outdoor programming at the court so the community can receive in-person introductions to the court’s features and app. The court was funded in part by a grant from the National Fitness Campaign and CPRA (Colorado Parks and Recreation Association), and the rest was funded by ARPA funds (America Rescue Plan Act).
