Profile As a training architect I am inspired by my environment, it’s context both history, contextually, environmentally & politically and I strive to develop designs motivated by their landscape. From my undergraduate degree where my projects were driven by regional issues and research through to my Masters where within the Cinematic Commons Unit I have developed the freedom within my architectural propositions to tackle and develop designs that reflect my critique of current issues I am working towards developing architecture that has a purpose. Through my exploration of varying themes I have begun to develop my own architectural voice and skills through my most recent research in to alternative cirriculums for children within the city in my First Year Masters work.Onward in my 2nd year of study I have harnessed by interest in the role that identity plays within the development of architecture, through the exploration of the political / economical landscape shaping architectural identity within central northern China. This study has looked at the the development and critique of the hutong within the redevelopment of Dashilar District,Beijjing. After gaining experience within my ‘year out’ between my undergraduate and masters I had the opportunity to work within two architectural practices. Through this I gained experience within all stages of the plan of work. Alongside this I benefitted from attending site visits, client meetings, development through CPD’s and advanced programme training in new software.

MArch 01 | Education in the City My March 01 project was situated Within the bustling site of Tottenham Court provisions which is currently under redevelopment to become more user friendly and green; but these measures being put in place -as a result of expansions to crossrail -are superficial and do not act as a means of engagement with the public in developing an architectural commons for the people. Within my project I began to explore the alternative journey of the children, through understanding educational methods from the Forest School to the Montessori education systems and dutch adventure

playgrounds, I begin to develop key conditions within new alternative classrooms in relation to the configuration of movement, sensory aspects in the natural environment and scale for children. Within the city where the people are mostly confined in their experience through transport links and their journey to work I used the child as an early intervention for change in our habits. As part of the alternative education workshops running along the journey of my site, key lessons acted as a means of developing potential at an early age.

The project developed in to the journey of a new cirriculum placing particular emphasis on behaviours that the child is able to develop through self-discovery and architectural perameters set up along the way by myself. Key lessons I integrated included self building/adaptability. The project included a bicycle repair and rebuild workshop before they travel on to the highline, then an area of integration anarchic takeover and then travelling on to a sensory space. Through research in early children’s behavour and analysis in to stimulating environments I developed a series of interventions as new ‘classrooms’

Model | Cinematic | Narrative Within Cinematic Commons we use the medium of film to develop Narratives to question the projects context, and further develop the themes of our own brief and current issues within the area that shape and progress our early ideas. Within my films models are used cinematically to portray the theme of exploration for the children through the use of analysed techniques such as the the use of repetative children’s voices which offers the narrative of expressing how the child feels. Using the existing buildings of the Tottenham Court Area as the basis for my set model I wanted to reflect the potential to glimpse through into aspects of the building portrayed in model (i) and he development of model (ii) which came through looking at the connection of a new child’s journey on an elevated children’s highway. Scenes that I explored after the completion of the foreign gaze film began to look at aspects of scale, and the levels of the child within the city; their ability to cut through buildings, and have control of their own experience of the city.

Young Lit & Phil | Prayer Rooms The Prayer Rooms based on the Quayside on Newcastle upon tyne is a new library that brings people of different beliefs and cultures together in study. The ‘Prayer Rooms’ aspired to be a space where people came together n appreciation of other beliefs and learn from one another. It is intended for those who are of a particular faithe, but it intends to encourage people of non-religioun to come to together learn about and respect a multitude of different religions and through this, cultures. The project developed in to a space that was; clear to the users in it’s orientation for information, made sure information is open and free, and allowed for discussions for acceptance and openness. Another key principle of the religious library was to ensure the interior and exterior spaces are always connecting, to reminds those within of the beauty outside as well as what they can view from their study areas.

Visitor’s Centre | Steel Rigg Within the Barren landscape of Northumberland National Park lies numerous outcrops of natural beauty. Conceptually driven the Northumberland National Park Visitors centre aims to mirror the landscape’s sublties creating elements in between the spaces that nature has already formed. Taking inspiration from the surrounding environment and integration into these elements the Northumberland Visitor’s centre aims to be a place touching on the landscape, tantilizingly close to the edge of what there is to explore beyond. The visitor’s centre aims to be a modern day place of learning and education, reigniting an interest withiin people and their natural environment. The Architecture of the buildngs within this project was derived from the close relationship to the surrounding trees. Due to the nature of these spaces they are smaller in comparison to other areas of the site but were developed in relation to views and materiality to make clear this connection.x

After University I look forward to undertkaing my next challenge and applying my years in advanced education along with professional experience and skills which have been developed in parralel to one another within an exciting, creative, challenging team. I thrive on learning new skills and the process of constantly developing my abilities. Alongside technical aspects of design and the architectural cirriculum I love to travel and see architecture I have read about first hand. Alongside this I enjoy developing my own projects alongside academic work in the development of artwork and projects. In my spare time I enjoy running long distance races, alongside climbing, and apply my passion for all tasks in all aspects of my life. Thankyou for taking the time to look through my C.V and shortened portoflio. Further work and details of references will be provided on request.
