Group Swim Lessons Overview FIRST DAY OF LESSONS On the first day of lessons, the Swim Lesson Coordinator will meet you on the deck of the Arctic Splash indoor pool. You will learn who will be your instructor and what area to sit in to watch lessons, and have any of your questions answered. WHAT TO BRING TO LESSONS Swimsuit: All swimmers must wear appropriate swim attire. If your participant is not yet potty-trained, please have him/her wear a swim diaper specifically designed for pool use. Towel: No towels are provided so please be sure to bring one for each of your participants. Goggles: Beginning levels are not advised to use goggles because of the value and safety placed on being comfortable opening one’s eyes under water. As swim skills increase, the use of goggles is encouraged to aid the participant in learning additional skills. Positive attitude: The learning process can be rewarding but frustrating at times. With patience and a positive attitude, you and your participant can get the most out of swim lessons and be on your way to increasing your enjoyment in the water. LESSON TIME We invite you to make yourself comfortable in the chairs on the observation deck to watch your participant. Even better, we encourage you to watch the skills your participant is learning and to practice them together outside of formal lessons. While engaging in the learning process outside of lesson time is helpful, please refrain from approaching your participant while they are with their instructor. Disrupting your participant’s concentration and the concentration of other participants can keep the instructor from being able to accomplish all lesson goals.
Preschool lessons are 30 minutes with 25 minutes of instruction and five (5) minutes of supervised water exploration. Swim School lessons are 45 minutes with 40 minutes of instruction and five (5) minutes of supervised water exploration. AFTER LESSONS When lessons end, each instructor will dismiss the participants. Please feel free to address any questions you may have with your participant’s swim instructor at this time. TESTING The second to last day of lessons, each child is tested on the skills required to fully complete the current level. On the last day, group lesson participants receive a certificate from their swim instructor. The card indicates the skills the swimmer has successfully completed. The instructor will indicate if the swimmer will need to stay in the same level class or if he/she is ready to move on to the next skill level. CANCELLATIONS There are no make-up sessions for group swim lessons. WATER EXPLORATION TIME The five minutes of water exploration time at the end of each lesson is an opportunity for participants to have fun in the water in a safe environment. Students who use a flotation device must wear the flotation device at all times. Participants are encouraged to practice the safety skills learned and socialize and swim with others. PRIVATE LESSONS Private lessons are available and offered on both weekdays and weekends. Private lessons are pre-arranged ahead of time with a designated time and instructor. It is one-on-one instruction for 30 minutes. THIS BOOKLET PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE SWIM LESSON PROGRAM. ALL INFORMATION IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. THANK YOU.
