In our destination section we have given special coverage to Krabi & Phang-Nga. As Thailand gradually opens up to International tourism for fully vaccinated travellers from low-medium risk Covid countries, following Phuket & Koh Samui are Krabi and Phang Nga, that are scheduled to reopen selected areas, in August 2021 (tentatively) under a 7+7 model. This will allow foreign tourists, under the ‘Sandbox Programme’ to reduce the mandatory stay in Phuket from 14 to 07 days, after which another 07 nights can be spent in Krabi and Phang Nga. Apart from that there is positive news from Madhya Pradesh. As the country is moving towards normalcy, the state has announced receiving tourists with ‘No restriction’.

thiopian Airlines Group has established a global standard cargo Conversion program to convert the B-767-300 ER to dedicated freighter services in partnership agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, Tewolde GebreMariam, said, ‘’In line with our Diversified Aviation Business Model of Vision 2025, we have been increasing our cargo capacity in fleet, ground service infrastructure and cargo connectivity network.” “Accordingly, we are partnering with IAI, one of the global technology leaders in the Aerospace industry, in building a cargo conversion center in our MRO facilities in Addis Ababa Airport. The Cargo conversion center will commence its first business with three Ethiopian Airlines owned B-767-300 aircraft. The Cargo Conversion Center in Addis Ababa airport will expand its services to all airlines in Africa and the wider region.

We are very happy that we are able to collaborate with IAI to enable us to expand our cargo and logistics services which is already the largest and leading cargo network in Africa. The capacity building will also help us expand our MRO services with cutting edge technology and knowledge transfer,” he added. Yossi Melamed, IAI’s Executive VP and General Manager of Aviation Group on his part said: “We are witnessing a sharp rise in the demand for cargo aircraft as a result of the rise in ecommerce, which has peaked to record levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. IAI has an excellent reputation as a conversion center of passenger-to-freighters aircraft, and we are constantly receiving requests to open such conversion centers in more and more locations around the world. I am excited by the opening of the current center in Ethiopia and thank my colleagues in Ethiopian Airlines for the trust they have put

in IAI’s Aviation Group, as the world’s leader in conversions.” The new passenger-to-freighter conversion centre, which will operate from the Ethiopian MRO centre in Addis Ababa, will provide solutions for the rising demand for cargo aircraft of B767 models. The conversion line in Ethiopia will join existing conversion sites IAI operates at its campus in Ben Gurion International Airport and in Mexico.

IATA Travel Pass is available for guests on all Etihad flights between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok, Barcelona, Geneva, Madrid, Milan, New York and Singapore and offers the convenience of a one-stop platform for managing COVID-19 documentation. Mohammad Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer at Etihad Aviation Group, said: “The feedback from the IATA Travel Pass trial has been positive with Etihad’s guests appreciating its ease-of-use and data security. Etihad is pleased to now make IATA Travel Pass available on flights to and from seven major global cities, providing more guests with the option of simplifying their journey and airport experience.” Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety and Security, said:

To access the IATA Travel Pass, guests simply need to download the IATA Travel Pass app for Android or iOS, where they can add their Etihad Airways travel itinerary, view their travel requirements and securely share their PCR test results. The IATA Travel Pass app also includes functionality to upload vaccination certificates, opening up opportunities for travel where vaccination is a requirement.

Maharashtra CM launches boating club, adventure sports News Desk

hief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has launched several initiatives of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) recently to push tourism in the state. The projects include a new boating club, facilities for skydiving and adventure sports, tie-up with leading online travel companies to boost MTDC properties on the portals, among others. Thackeray, during the launch held at Varsha bungalow, said the state has a wide variety of tourist destinations to attract domestic and international tourists, which will boost the state’s economy and provide employment. The tourism department, in presence of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Minister of State for Tourism Aditya Tatkare, launched a new boat club in Ratnagiri district’s Ganpatipule, signed MoUs with M/s SkyHigh India to start skydiving and adventure sport activities in

Sindhudurg district. The MTDC launched a new website as well. While speaking on the inauguration, Thackeray said, “The state too has several destinations that can go on world map. Like Amsterdam’s Tulip Garden, we can also develop tourism around flowers on Kaas Pathar in Satara district.” Aaditya Thackeray stated, “Tourists worldwide are in for a pleasant surprise as we continue to enhance MTDC’s user experience. Following the enthusiastic reception of Nashik Boat Club, Ganpatipule Boat

Club is set to welcome tourists with thrilling aquatic sports and charming beach shacks.” The MTDC also signed the MoU with online travel companies Make My Trip and Goibibo to promote MTDC properties on the portal, and an agreement was inked with Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Pune, to train MTDC staff in hospitality and service. Thackeray also inaugurated a refurbished at MTDC Sinhagad Resort, giving the visitors a chance to explore the glory of Sinhagad Fort.

hile addressing the virtual plenary session of the 'Second Travel, Tourism & Hospitality e-Conclave organised by FICCI, Suman Billa, Director, United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNTWO), Technical Cooperation & Silk Road Development, said that countries that can achieve quick and complete vaccination are going to race ahead and kickstart their economies sooner. Countries that are prioritizing vaccination will reach optimum level of production sooner. This will widen economic disparities across the world. While further elaborating on this, Billa said that COVID will level playing fields across the globe and vaccination will play an important role in this aspect. "Whether I am in Sri Lanka, India, or any part of the world, if I had my two shots of the vaccine and I have a certificate to prove it, I should be able to travel. There is going to be some amount of asymmetry on this front. From an Indian perspective, therefore, what we need to do is to well and truly open up travel, especially for those who are vaccinated. For international travellers, we need to jettison the principle of reciprocity.”

Odisha allocates INR 1,500 cr to make religious destinations ready post-COVID News Desk

hile the state government for the development of religious tourist destinations had sanctioned INR 200 and 350 crores in 2019 and 2020 respectively, this year encompassing all religious projects, the Government of Odisha has sanctioned a budget of INR 1,500 crores to

been doing the background work needed to elevate the state's tourist destinations. Puri is the first city in the country to boast of direct tap drinking water. We are now trying to replicate the same in other tourist destinations as well," added Panigrahi. The minister says that even though international travel has

taken a backseat, domestic travel and tourism is slowly on the rise. The projects that Odisha is taking up currently will help the tourism sector in a positive way. He further says that Odisha Government is endeavouring to make the sector future-proof while improving the livelihood of local communities. “We have drafted the Odisha Tourism Development Facilitation and Regulation Bill that will empower the Government to register service providers, regulate activities in tourist areas, facilitate bonafide investment proposals and ensure tourist safety against malpractices," concludes Panigrahi.

oa’s tourism stakeholders have called on the Union and state governments to reopen the state’s tourism industry to foreign arrivals, especially from those countries that have welcomed people from India over the last year and a half.

atpal Maharaj, Cabinet Minister for Tourism, Pilgrimage & Religious Fairs, Culture, Government of Uttarakhand said the state has extended various fiscal and monetary assistance to the tourism sector and has taken several steps to aid the sector. A package of INR 200 crore has been arranged for COVIDaffected service providers like adventure tour operators, and river guides, among others. He was speaking at the Second Travel, Tourism & Hospitality e-Conclave organised by FICCI,recently. Whule addressing the gathering he further informed that various policies have been undertaken by the state to help the sector revive. "Among the various policies and subsidies that the state has undertaken, Uttarakhand offers policies to attract and support the film industry to shoot in Uttarakhand. Additionally, we

have provided a subsidy of INR 10 lakhs in hilly terrains and INR 7.5 lakhs in plains under the Deendayal Homestay Yojana. 3,400 homestays have been registered so far under this scheme," he said.

A delegation of the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), a body of tourism industry business leaders, and the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry called on Goa chief minister to impress upon him to restart foreign arrivals, something that is seen as crucial for the state’s small and medium hotel industry to survive.

Further, speaking of the latest trends in tourism, Maharaj said that people are also now looking forward to staycations and workations. "Under the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Yojana, we have started online registrations. We have also developed various circuits to boost local travel," he said.

To encourage tourists to travel, the TTAG has suggested a special charter tourist package visa to be worked out which can be issued manually by the local embassies or temporary landing permits can be issued on arrival to tourists, as done in the past. According to industry estimates, the tourism sector employs over

40 million skilled and trained manpower and generates approximately US $29 billion foreign exchange per annum for the country. The industry is facing severe financial constraints and even a limited reopening of the industry would go a long way in improving the health of the industry, the stakeholders said. They have sought that the Goa government should now announce a conditional reopening of the state for foreign tourists, subject to the Coronavirus situation being under control in order that they can plan for the upcoming season. No new foreign tourists have set foot in Goa since March last year after the country shut its borders to leisure travel and stopped issuing tourist visas. Prior to the pandemic, the state witnessed close to 90-lakh tourists including around 9-lakh foreigners.

s the country has gone through the second wave of Covid-19 and moving towards normalcy by following the Covid-19 norms and guidelines to avoid the expected third wave, Madhya Pradesh has opened its boarders to receive domestic travellers with ‘No restrictions’. However, the travellers are advised to wear mask and maintain social distancing as a safety measure and to stop further spread of the pandemic.

It was informed by Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary Tourism, Culture and Public Relations and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Board while Addressing the virtual plenary session of the 'Second Travel, Tourism & Hospitality e-Conclave: Resilience & The Road to Recovery' organized by FICCI recently. He further explains that “The COVID situation is very much under control due to the ongoing successful vaccination

Announce E-tourist Visa & International flights by September, suggests Subhash Goyal News Desk

resident, Confederation of Tourism Professionals, Subhash Goyal feels that the pandemic (Covid-19) which has spread across the world and changing its variant frequently is going to stay for a long, and the people across the world has to learn to deal with it. Goyal feels that when there is uncertainty about the end of pandemic, the Indian government should announce e-tourist visa and operation of international flights by September or October this year. “The sooner we do this, the sooner it will help our economy revive,” added Goyal. “This will not only help to save millions of jobs but also enable India to further boost its exports and become a global leader which is a dream of our Prime Minister,” he says. “Just like Africa allows people with yellow fever vaccine to travel, similarly – we should allow fully vaccinated international tourists to travel to India, and Indians to travel abroad to countries which are open to Indians via schedule flights,” stressed Goyal.

“We have to fulfil our Prime Minister's dream of making India a 5 trillion dollar economy. Tourism is the only industry, which is labour intensive and has a multiplier effect on the economy. Therefore, we need to act now before it is too late,” he emphasised.

Like all other countries in the world they have not received any financial support or bailout package. The only hope for survival is starting of e-tourist visas and scheduled international flights.

While explaining the need of the hour Goyal made several points mentioned as below: The tourist season to India is from October to March and we need not to lose this opportunity in the year 2021 since year 2020 was a total wash out. In 2019, India earned Rs.2,10,981 crores Foreign Exchange from the period January to December or 3.1 billion US dollars in the month of December 2019 (source MOT). We received more than 10 million tourists in 2019. International tourism accounts for almost 10% of India's GDP and approximately 11% of direct & indirect taxes. Majority of these Tourists come between October and

he National Management Committee of Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) has elected new Managing Committee members for the term 2021-2023. Members of the association from across the country cast their e-vote in a virtual election conducted by NSDL, and elected Ajay Prakash – who has held various positions including TAFI President from 2010 to 2012 and his team with a thumping majority to take TAFI forward amidst the most difficult and challenging times for the travel and hospitality sector. Kamal R Jadhwani, Abbas Moiz and Hitank Shah have been elected as Vice President, National General Secretary and Treasurer respectively. TAFI

Both Kalsi and Jain got elected as MC Members in the national elections held electronically on July 24. he Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) and Deutscher Reiseverband – German travel association have signed an agreement to promote two way tourism between the two countries by taking suitable measures to reinstate tourism once the situation is normal, said Rajiv Mehra President, IATO. Under this agreement, both IATO and DRV have agreed to undertake reasonable efforts to make its members aware of membership of both the associations, its benefits and events in India and Germany. Officials of both the organisations will be invited to their annual conventions and will conduct travel exchange programme and training programme on reciprocal basis. Kenya launches revised protocols for ‘New Normal’ News Desk

ourism & Wildlife Cabinet Secretary, Najib Balala has launched the revised Magical Kenya Tourism and Travel Health and Safety Protocols for the ‘New Normal’. “With the majority of the people embracing the Covid-19 vaccines worldwide, we deem it important to issue a comprehensive Covid-19 vaccination policy and procedures for both guests and staff at all levels of establishments’ operations. That’s why we are launching the reviewed protocols that were first issued in July 2020,” said CS Balala. The CS also added that countries with the highest numbers of individuals that are vaccinated against Covid will be the ones receiving the highest numbers of tourists as people

will find the destinations to be safe and healthy. “Hospitality workers can also be considered to be frontline workers as they engage with visitors on a personal level. That is why we are urging our hospitality stakeholders to get vaccinated whenever they get the chance. On our part, we shall be liaising with CECs of Tourism and Health at County levels so that the stakeholders can be vaccinated,” added Balala. The CS also advocated for selfregulating since there has been a lot of confusion when it comes to hospitality establishments. Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) has been assigned the task of being the lead, while working closely with other multi-agencies that are in the hospitality industry.

“We are aware that most regulated establishments have put in place measures to comply with Covid-19 protocols, and we commend them for that. However, there is a general laxity in full compliance especially when it comes to social distancing. Also, there are

those that are not following or are trying to circumvent the laid down protocols. We want to tell them their days are numbered and that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them,” noted Balala.

he German National Tourist Board (GNTB) is picking up and expanding the scope of its 'Feel Good' campaign in 2021 to promote Destination Germany's wide range of sustainable tourism offerings. The 'Feel Good' initiative illustrates the various sustainable tourism offerings across the country, while providing guidelines on how to still visit the natural landscapes, urban attractions and historical sites that Germany is popular for. The campaign includes a selection of cities, regions and accommodation providers that are particularly committed to sustainability in tourism. Four clusters have been created to better outline the offerings; Active Outdoors, Education and Experiences, Responsible Enjoyment and Sustainable Experiences in Towns and Cities. The 'Feel Good' campaign also showcases specific travel experiences that bring

sustainable products and services at the destination to life. These experiences allow travellers to engage with locals and discover sustainability at first hand. Almost 58 per cent of Indian consumers are aware of the various implications currently impacting the environment, with interest in information on health and the environment are high on their agenda and making sustainable trips to the cities and wider regions without having to compromise on safety or fun according to a study by Global Web Index. Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the GNTB: "The latest Sustainability Report by Booking. com shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly accelerated the shift in travellers' values towards wellbeing, sustainability and social responsibility. 83 per cent of the respondents from the 30 countries surveyed believe that sustainable travel is vital, while 61 per cent said that the pandemic has made them want to travel more sustainably in the future.”

Along with countries ensuring safety of the travellers, I feel it is equally important for people to be careful and follow all safety guidelines. Additionally, it is also extremely important to strengthen cooperation within and between countries to rebuild tourism and restore international touristic activities.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nayef AI-Fayez said during his participation in the committee's meetings virtually that the city of AsSalt is among the kingdom's top priorities because of its importance in demonstrating the characteristics of tolerance, coexistence and social care among its residents. AI-Fayez added that Jordan and the World Heritage Committee (UNESCO) send an important

message to the whole world: a message of peace, tolerance and coexistence in line with His Majesty King Abdullah ll's speech at the 2019 International Conference on Cohesive Societies in Singapore, in which His Majesty stressed that "the attack on interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence is the most important threat in the world which requires everyone to join forces to resist hatred and exclusion." he Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reiterates that both the Phuket Sandbox and Samui Plus programmes are going ahead as usual, and the plans to reopen Krabi and Phang Nga to fully vaccinated international tourists are set to start within August. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, Spokesperson of the Centre for Economic Situation Administration (CESA), said the Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha had been keeping a close watch on the Phuket Sandbox and Samui Plus programmes, and voiced confidence in the plans to revive the economy through tourism by gradually reopening destinations that could ensure the health and safety of both the tourists and local people.

Krabi and Phang Nga are scheduled to reopen selected areas within this month under a 7+7 model. This will allow foreign tourists under the Sandbox programme to reduce the mandatory stay in Phuket from 14 to 7 days, after which another 7 nights can be spent in Krabi (Ko Phi Phi, Ko Ngai, and Railay Beach), and Phang Nga (Khao Lak and Ko Yao). The 7+7 model aims to provide international tourists with more options to visit multiple destinations during their trip to Thailand. Krabi and Phang Nga are ideal for this given their proximity to and ease of access from Phuket. Phang Nga, Khao Lak can be reached within 1.5 hours by car, while Ko Yao Noi and Ko Yao Yai can be reached within 30-40 minutes by boat from Bang

Rong Pier. Krabi, Ko Phi Phi, Ko Ngai and Railay Beach can be reached within 45-55 minutes from Rassada Pier. Phuket, Krabi, and Phang Nga are declared among the 11 Controlled Areas or orange zone provinces in Thailand’s expansion of the COVID-19 restrictions from 3-31 August, 2021.

Attractions Arjuna’s Penance: It is a 27mx9m World largest bas-relief. It has over 100 sculptures of Gods, Birds and Beasts and Saints. It is popularly called as Arjunan Penance. It is believed to illustrate an instance from Mahabharata when Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, performed rigorous penance with a prayer to Lord Shiva's to obtain the powerful and Divine Bow to destroy the Kauravas. The other name is the ‘Descent of the Ganges’ It is also said in legends that King ‘Bhagiratha’ standing on one leg posture praying to the Lord to bring the River Ganges down to earth to please the souls of his ancestors. Pancha Rathas: Panch Rathas is an example of monolithic Indian rock-cut architecture. The complex was carved during the reign of King Narasimhavarman I (630–668 AD). The idea of realising monolithic buildings, an innovation in Indian architecture, is attributed to this ruler. The complex is under the auspices of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site inscribed by UNESCO as Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram.

Varaha Cave: It is also called as Adhivaraha Cava Temple. It is a rock-cut cave temple of the late 7th Century, which forms a part of the village on Hilltop 2 kms from the main town. It is the finest testimony of the Viswakarma Sthapathis. The prominent sculpture in the cave is

Cholamandalam Arts Village: This village was created in 1966 in an area of 10 acres. It is 35 Kms from Mamallapuram and 10 Kms from Adayar. The community was founded by K.C.S. Paniker of the Madras School of Arts along with his students and a few artists associated with the college. The `art-meets-craft' approach of artisans made the society to self sufficiency by 1970. Artists are exceptionally skilled. Gallery Speaks volumes of its strength and it is a Centre for Contemporary Arts too. It grew as one of the most important meeting places for international artists too. Presently it is one of the few artist-driven movements and one of the few artists' colonies to be on the 10 biggest art moments in India. The open air Theatre Bharathi is being used for discussions and Conferences. Tirupporur: It is 16kms from Mamallapuram. It is an ancient abode of Lord Murugan called as Kandaswami Temple. It is also known as Poriyur , Yuddapuri or Samarapuri. Legend says that after vanquishing Soorapadman at

Tiruchendur, Lord Murugan destroyed the rest of the demons here at Tirupporur. Arunagirinatha glorified Tirupporur by saying all the four Vedas worship at Tirupporur. Devotees worship Swayambhu Mūrti of Murugan in the form of a palmyrah tree. Thirukazhukkundram: It is 17 Kms from Mamallapuram. This town is famous for its Vedagiriswarar Temple Complex popularly known as Kazhugu Koil. It has two structures, one on top of the hills and another at the foot hill. The large temple atop the hill is dedicated to Lord Siva called as Vedagiriswarar. The Temple at the foothill that has four towers is dedicated to Parvathi called as Tirupura Sundari. It is believed that a conch is discovered in the Temple tank once in 12 years and thousands of Devotees throng this place to have a dip in that tank at that auspicious moment.

By end of July, the hotel will add another 18 cottages. The former summer capital of the princely state of Patiala, Chail is located 37 kms from Shimla via Kufri. With Welcomhotel Shimla having opened in December 2020 as well as another upcoming one in Narkanda in 2022, ITC plans to create a complete circuit in Himachal. What special promotions did you offer?

Hotels in the hills have benefitted the most, in terms of both occupancy and yield (or average room rates), during the pandemic. We had an introductory offer for the first 15 days, in which there were special rates, and we gave a meal credit of Rs 1,000. At the moment, we are offering all-in-getaway packages, which include room tariff and all meals. With the upcoming monsoon, we will be offering more such value-based offers which would help drive volumes. What are the hotel’s plans for the future? In the long-term, we are looking to make this a wholistic destination (with a minimum stay of four to five nights), offering enriching experiences through a combination of gastronomy, wellness, adventure and leisure.

thiopian Airlines Group has established a global standard cargo Conversion program to convert the B-767-300 ER to dedicated freighter services in partnership agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, Tewolde GebreMariam, said, ‘’In line with our Diversified Aviation Business Model of Vision 2025, we have been increasing our cargo capacity in fleet, ground service infrastructure and cargo connectivity network.” “Accordingly, we are partnering with IAI, one of the global technology leaders in the Aerospace industry, in building a cargo conversion center in our MRO facilities in Addis Ababa Airport. The Cargo conversion center will commence its first business with three Ethiopian Airlines owned B-767-300 aircraft. The Cargo Conversion Center in Addis Ababa airport will expand its services to all airlines in Africa and the wider region.

We are very happy that we are able to collaborate with IAI to enable us to expand our cargo and logistics services which is already the largest and leading cargo network in Africa. The capacity building will also help us expand our MRO services with cutting edge technology and knowledge transfer,” he added. tihad Airways has expanded IATA Travel Pass on flights between Abu Dhabi and seven destinations across its network as it continues to implement digital solutions to simplify the travel experience in the wake of the pandemic.

IATA Travel Pass is available for guests on all Etihad flights between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok, Barcelona, Geneva, Madrid, Milan, New York and Singapore and offers the convenience of a one-stop platform for managing COVID-19 documentation. Mohammad Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer at Etihad Aviation Group, said: “The feedback from the IATA Travel Pass trial has been positive with Etihad’s guests appreciating its ease-of-use and data security. Etihad is pleased to now make IATA Travel Pass available on flights to and from seven major global cities, providing more guests with the option of simplifying their journey and airport experience.” Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety and Security, said:

“Etihad’s decision to expand IATA Travel Pass based on positive customer feedback is a strong endorsement of the solution. IATA Travel pass was designed to provide a one-stop-shop solution for travellers to safely and efficiently manage their COVID-19 documentation and generate an ‘OK to Travel’ which airlines can trust. It’s great to see the app in use facilitating the restart of international travel.”

To access the IATA Travel Pass, guests simply need to download the IATA Travel Pass app for Android or iOS, where they can add their Etihad Airways travel itinerary, view their travel requirements and securely share their PCR test results. The IATA Travel Pass app also includes functionality to upload vaccination certificates, opening up opportunities for travel where vaccination is a requirement.
