According to a data release ahead of ATM 2017; with 120 million outbound travellers in 2016 alone, China has retained its position as the world’s largest outbound tourism market for the past four years.

With 540,000 tourists in 2016, China became the top ten source market for Dubai. Taking a clue from this significant growth that Dubai has registered, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) is preparing to attract as many as 200,000 Chinese visitors to the emirate by 2021. Not lagging behind, Abu Dhabi plans to attract 600,000 Chinese tourists a year by 2021; if realised, would represent a 265% increase on the figures recorded for the first nine months of 2016, according to data from the emirate’s Tourism and Culture Authority.

Tourism & Economic Growth under spotlight at UNWTO & ATM Ministerial Forum 2017
T
he Middle East and North Africa (MENA) are expected to welcome 195 million international tourists by 2030. Between 25 million and 50 million new jobs will be required in the region over the next decade. Over 20 Ministers and industry leaders will gather at the Ministerial Forum to discuss how tourism can play a role in the future of the MENA region. Visitors to the MENA region will total 195 million by 2030, growing at a rate higher than the world average, according to figures by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The rapid development of the sector will form part of the discussion at the UNWTO & ATM Ministerial Forum at the Arabian Travel Market, taking place on April 24 in the Dubai World Trade Centre, United Arab Emirates. The Forum, an official event of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017 returns to ATM this year, with a particular focus on the contribution of tourism to sustainable economic growth and economic diversification of the MENA region. “Tourism is an increasingly important sector to support the economic diversification of the region. In addition to generating foreign exchange earnings and creating jobs, tourism promotes trade and investment and significantly contributes to the development of other sectors of the economy - such as construction, manufacture, retail and financial services.” said UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai.

Pawan Hans launches India’s first heliport in Rohini
B
uilt by Pawan Hans Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, India’s first heliport has been inaugurated in north Delhi’s Rohini recently. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju inaugurated the heliport. Pawan Hans Ltd Chairman and Managing Director B P Sharma said, “The heliport has come up at an investment of Rs 100 crore.” The heliport has a terminal building having capacity of 150 passengers, four hangars with parking capacity of 16 helicopters and nine parking bays. It also has a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility. The heliport will play an important role in providing various helicopter services ranging from offshore transport, connecting remote & inaccessible Islands of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep promoting heli-tourism in India. The heliport will be used for providing services for disaster management, emergency medical services, law and order surveillance. “Rohini facility is India’s first integrated facility for rotor wing aircraft including their landing and takeoff. It has a terminal building that can cater to 150 passengers per day besides separate air traffic control (ATC), fire and fuelling services,” Sharma said. Earlier in February 2016, Pawan Hans carried out trial sorties from the heliport and had planned to go for full scale chopper operations from May. It is expected to reduce congestion at the Delhi Airport. “Delhi airport currently handles about 40-50 helicopter arrivals and departures on an average per day besides the large-scale fixed-wing operations,” Sharma said.

Three day Curtain Raiser International Yoga Fest
A
Three days International Yoga Fest was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Urban Development and Housing, M. Venkaiah Naidu at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi recently. The International Yoga Fest was organised as a Curtain Raiser for International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2017. In his inaugural address, Venkaiah Naidu said that Yoga is the only solution to bring harmony and unity among people. While addressing the participants in International Yoga Fest, he also said that Yoga plays an important role to stay healthy and fit. Naidu further said that Prime Minister wants yoga to become a people’s movement and has spread yoga to 192 countries across the world. The Minister also thanked Yoga Gurus and Yoga Masters who are contributing to make Yoga a people’s movement. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent charge) Shripad Yesso Naik said that Yoga has earned the global recognition for its holistic health potentials and therapeutic credentials. The AYUSH Minister explained that Yoga is a traditional system of Indian medicine, it has the vast potential of prevention and therapeutic dimensions. India, being a home of more than one billion population needs an effective and holistic AYUSH system in health sector, so that large work force can be utilized in a cohesive and productive manner.

Portugal commits to the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017
Growth in Domestic Tourist visits to States/UTs during 2016 goes up 15.5%
ortugal has committed to partnering with the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017. The commitment was presented to UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai, during his recent official visit to Portugal. Among the initiatives to celebrate the Year, Portugal is promoting the rehabilitation of historical buildings in the interior of the country and routes through natural areas.
While surpassing the growth rate of 6.8% in Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) observed in January 2016 over January 2015, a significantly higher double digit growth rate of 16.5% has been witnessed correspondingly in the month of January 2017 over January 2016. A similar higher growth rate is also observed in the Domestic Tourist Visits (DTVs) during 2016, recording a marvelous growth rate of 15.5% over 2015.
On the occasion, Rifai and Portuguese authorities discussed the role of tourism in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the contribution of tourism to job creation and economic growth in Portugal.
The data for DTVs, every year, is compiled by Ministry of Tourism based on the inputs received from all States/UTs. While complete data for each calendar year from all States/ UTs is received in the Ministry of Tourism sometime around in the months of AprilMay of the succeeding year, Ministry of Tourism has come out at present with provisional figures for DTVs on the basis of whatever information/ data is made available thus far by the concerned States/UTs coupled with estimation undertaken by the Ministry of Tourism for the missing/ incomplete data segments. The estimation process basically entails the Methods of prevailing growth rates and proportionate contributions.

Meeting with Prime Minister Antonio Costa, Rifai addressed the mechanisms of coordination among Ministries to advance tourism development in the country as well as issues of air transport and the relevance of new source markets such as China.

Rifai also met President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with whom he discussed the importance of raising the public visibility of the socio-economic impact of tourism. Tourism and the SDGs and visa facilitation were on the agenda of the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Santos Silva. Meeting with the Minister of Economy, Caldeira Cabral, and the Secretary of State for Tourism, Ana Mendes Godinho, Rifai discussed Portugal’s ‘Revive’ Programme aimed at promoting the rehabilitation of historic buildings through private sector investment, as well as the policies in place to promote the regional spread of tourism and fight seasonality. The visit included the presentation of Portugal 4.0, a project aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the tourism sector and one of the finalists of the 2016 UNWTO Awards.
Following are the salient features of the provisional figures for DTVs to States/ UTs during the year 2016: ÂÂDuring 2016, the number of DTVs to the States/ UTs was 1653 million (provisional) as compared to 1432 million in 2015 registering a growth of 15.5 %. ÂÂThe contribution of the top ten States/ UTs during 2016 stands at about 84.2% to the total number of Domestic Tourist Visits as against 83.62% recorded in 2015. ÂÂThe top ten States in terms of number of DTVs (in millions), during 2016, were Tamil Nadu (344.3), Uttar Pradesh (229.6), Madhya Pradesh (184.7), Andhra Pradesh (158.5), Karnataka (129.8), Maharashtra (115.4), West Bengal (74.5), Telangana (71.5), Gujarat (42.8) and Rajasthan (41.5). ÂÂTamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh have maintained the first and second rank respectively in terms of DTVs in 2016. ÂÂMadhya Pradesh has gained several ranks to reach the third position leaving Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra at the succeeding fourth, fifth and sixth positions. ÂÂWest Bengal surpassed Telangana to attain the seventh position rendering Telangana at the eighth, followed by Gujarat and Rajasthan.

GST Council approves CGST and IGST Bill
T
he Goods and Services Tax GST) Council, in its meeting held recently in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi under the Chairmanship of the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Arun Jaitley has approved the draft CGST Bill and the draft IGST Bill as vetted by the Union Law Ministry. This clears the deck for the Central Government to take these two Bills to the Parliament for their passage in the ongoing Budget Session. Some of the main features of the two Bills, as finalised by the GST Council, are as follows: i.
A State-wise single registration for a taxpayer for filing returns, paying taxes, and to fulfill other compliance requirements. Most of the compliance requirements would be fulfilled online, thus leaving very little room for physical interface between the taxpayer and the tax official.
ii. A taxpayer has to file one single return state-wise to report all his supplies, whether made within or outside the State or exported out of the country and pay the applicable taxes on them. Such taxes can be Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), State Goods and Services Tax (SGST), Union Territory Goods and Services Tax (UTGST) and Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST). iii. A business entity with an annual turnover of upto Rs. 20 lakhs would not be required to take registration in the GST regime, unless he voluntarily chooses to do so to be a part of the input tax credit (ITC) chain. The annual turnover threshold in the Special Category States (as enumerated in Article 279A of the Constitution such as Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and the other States of the NorthEast) for not taking registration is Rs. 10 lakhs. iv. A business entity with turnover upto Rs. 50 lakhs can avail the benefit of a composition scheme under which it has to pay a much lower rate of tax and has to fulfill very minimal compliance requirements. v.
In order to prevent cascading of taxes, ITC would be admissible on all goods and services used in the course or furtherance of business, except on a few items listed in the Law.
vi. In order to ensure that ITC can be used seamlessly for payment of taxes under the Central and the State Law, it has been provided that the ITC entitlement arising out of taxes
paid under the Central Law can be cross-utilised for payment of taxes under the laws of the States or Union Territories. For example, a taxpayer can use the ITC accruing to him due to payment of IGST to discharge his tax liability of CGST / SGST / UTGST. Conversely, a taxpayer can use the ITC accruing to him on account of payment of CGST / SGST / UTGST, for payment of IGST. Such payments are to be made in a pre-defined order.

vii. In the Services sector, the existing mechanism of Input Service Distributor (ISD) under the Service Tax law has been retained to allow the flow of ITC in respect of input services within a legal entity. viii. To prevent lock-in of capital of exporters, a provision has been made to refund, within seven days of filing the application for refund by an exporter, ninety percent of the claimed amount on a provisional basis. ix. In order to ensure a single administrative interface for taxpayers, a provision has been made to authorise officers of the tax administrations of the Centre and the States to exercise the powers conferred under all Acts. x.
An agriculturist, to the extent of supply of produce out of cultivation of land, would not be liable to take registration in the GST regime.
The remaining two Bills namely, State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Bill and the Union territory Goods and Services Tax (UTGST) Bill, which would be almost a replica of the CGST Act, would be taken-up for approval after their legal vetting in the next meeting of GST Council scheduled on 16 March 2017.

Through this new Business Parcel Policy not only India Post but any private player can also book space in trains for movement of their Business Parcel. Before rolling out this scheme on All India basis test was done on 2 trains viz, Train No. 15959 HowrahGuwahati-Dibrugarh Kamrup Express between Howrah and Guwahati and Train No. 12721 Hyderabad-Nizamuddin Deccan Express between Hyderabad and Nizamuddin . After the success
of the test this scheme is rolled out at All India level. Flags off Country’s first Antyodaya Express running between Ernakulam - Howrah Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu flagged off the fourth Humsafar clan of trains and first Antyodaya clan of trains through video conferencing from Rail Bhawan. “Today we are launching the country’s first Antyodaya Express. Tejas Suresh P Prabhu Minister of Railways and UDAY Express will be launched soon. Govt. of India Antyodaya Express is a long-distance, fully unreserved, superfast train service, for the common man to be operated on dense routes,” said Prabhu.

The airline is also extending its SWISS Choice selection of extra inflight service options. Business Class customers on long-haul flights will be able to book the secluded privacy seats; and travel insurance will now be available separately from the regular flight booking process.
A New Digital Reading Selection Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will be further enhancing its inflight service product on 1 March. Travellers in all three seating classes will now be offered a new range of digital newspapers and magazines extending to over 250 titles in more than ten different languages. The guest can just go to swiss.com/ejournals before or after their flight and use their booking code or ticket number to download the
latest version of their preferred newspaper or magazine onto their mobile device. The number of such titles available to each traveller free of charge per flight will vary depending on their class of travel and their Miles & More status. SWISS’s new eJournal range will gradually replace the selection of print newspapers and magazines that are currently carried on board. This will also produce tangible savings in the flight’s weight; and this in turn will deliver further ecological benefits, including a reduction of some 450 tonnes in SWISS’s annual carbon dioxide emissions. Printed publications will still be extensively available, however, in the SWISS Lounges and in First and Business Class on long-haul flights.

The MoU has the provision to enlarge Pawan Hans’ scope of maintenance services in the future to include other Airbus helicopter types. “We are proud to be the world’s largest civil operator of Dauphin fleet and to be its leading maintenance services provider in India. AAI’s two airports are ranked amongst the best airports in the category of 2 to 5 million passengers per annum across the world. Based on the results of the survey carried out by the Airports Council International (ACI), a global non-profit organisation of Airport Operators on Airport Service Quality (ASQ), Jaipur and Srinagar airports have been rated as world’s No 1 and 2 respectively in the category, ‘Best Airport by Size’ in the traffic volume of 2 to 5 million passengers per year. Jaipur Airport has also been rated as the best airport in the category of ‘Best Airport by Size and Region’ in the traffic volume of 2 to 5 million passengers per year.

Air India marks International Women’s Day by flying ‘All Women Operated’ flights WH Desk

elebrating International Women’s Day in a historic way, Air India has flown more than ten all women crew flights on its international and domestic routes from 26th February to 08th March 2017. On this occasion, the incredible women of Air India operated all type of wide and narrow body aircraft in its fleet. Not only this, Air India is going to organise a unique tour from Delhi to Agra for those women who have never flown in spite of their engagement with aviation sector from many years.

It is a moment of absolute pride and honor for Air Indians that our women employees are writing their names in the annals of the aviation sector on a global scale. I would like to congratulate our women crew on creating history by operating first ever all women operated flight around the world and other flight on various routes.” Speaking further on Joyride he said” This initiative is being taken so that people working in the sector for long years get a chance to fly. There are many who might have gone into an aircraft but never flown on this we will give them a chance to fly.”
Inducts first A320neo into its fleet Aiming to bolster its capacity in the domestic market, Air India inducted the first Airbus A320neo aircraft into its fleet. The Airbus A320neo aircraft has a seat configuration of 162 seats including 12 seats in the business class. This aircraft is fuel efficient and is the first of 14 aircrafts leased from Kuwait headquartered ALAFCO Aviation Lease and Finance Company. Air India thus becomes the first CFM powered NEO operator in India.
In the series to create history, Air India operated around the world flight on Delhi-SFO-Delhi sector. To celebrate this achievement, a ceremony was organised and crew members of these flights were felicitated by the Air India. The non-stop flight from Delhi to SFO travelled via the Pacific Ocean and returned via the Atlantic Ocean completing around trip of the world with 16 crew members and 250 passengers on-board. With the travelling time of 15 hours and ten minutes, the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft covered 15,300 kms from Delhi- SFO at a speed of more than 1000 kms/hour. The flight while on its way to create history traversed 13 time zones. On return, the aircraft covered nearly 14000 kms and took 15 and half hours. Because of the wind pattern, on return the flight took more time.
Air India plans to induct 29 A320 neo aircraft into its fleet by 2019. The A320neo will join Air India’s existing fleet of 66 A320 family aircraft thus making Air India’s fleet size to 138 planes. Air India, today, flies one of the youngest, state-of-the-art, fleet of aircraft comprising a mix of the wide-body Boeing B777s, B747s, its latest acquisition- the B787 Dreamliner and the narrow body Airbus A321s, A320s and A319 aircraft.

Etihad Airways secures IATA certification for enhanced booking system WH Desk

tihad Airways has successfully implemented a new booking standard driven by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that enhances the level of information flow between travel agents and airline reservation systems. The New Distribution Capability (NDC) booking standard has been made possible following successful testing by Etihad Airways with Sabre Airline Solutions in partnership with Sabre Travel Network, one of the largest global distribution systems. As a result, the airline has secured a Level 1 certification from IATA. The certification paves the way for travel agents to have greater functionality with an improved shopping experience in the future that will enable them to access images of products, services and seat maps directly from Etihad Airways’ host reservation system.
IATA, which represents the interests of over 265 airlines worldwide, has been advocating a New Distribution Capability to modernise business and communication between carriers and the travel trade. ufthansa Group will deploy its newest long haul aircraft, the Airbus A350-900 to India’s financial capital during the summer schedule of 2017. From April 16 onwards, Mumbai becomes the third destination worldwide to welcome the game changing aircraft. Flying on Lufthansa’s Munich (MUC) to Mumbai (MUM) route, the A350-900 will offer Mumbai area residents travel choices and better connections to Lufthansa’s vast global network. Earlier this month, Lufthansa Group marked a key milestone in Indian aviation by starting the first commercial operations of A350-900 to Delhi. The Lufthansa A350-900 is the world’s most modern and environmentally friendly longhaul aircraft. In comparison with similar

types of aircraft it consumes 25 percent less fuel and produces 25 percent fewer emissions. The noise footprint is up to 50 percent smaller than comparable aircraft models. The aircraft offers Lufthansa’s most modern on-board product, assuring passengers the highest level of comfort in all travel classes, with a wider cabin, self-service area in Business Class, new seats in Economy Class, bigger windows, large TV screens, innovative mood lighting, personalized playlist and much more. The Lufthansa A350-900 is configured to seat 293 passengers: 48 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 224 in Economy Class. In addition, Lufthansa is the first airline worldwide to use a range of different settings for the on-board lighting of the A350-900 which are designed to fit with the day and night-time biorhythms of the passengers by providing the right type of light at the right time. Lighting effects will also be used to emulate a pleasant restaurant atmosphere on board during mealtimes. Altogether, the new A350-900 LED technology can provide around 24 different lighting settings. Following on from the A350-900, Lufthansa will also be re-fitting its Boeing 747-800s with the new lighting system.

Turkish adds two new routes to Russian flight network WH Desk

urrently operating to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Rostov, Kazan, Ekaterinburg, Ufa, Astrakhan, Novosibirsk and Stavropol, the flag carrier will now operate direct flights to Voronezh and Samara in Russia. Turkish Airlines is going to increase capacity in Russia by operating three flights per week between Istanbul–Samara and Istanbul–Voronej instead of Astrakhan and Novosibirsk which are currently operated as two flights per week. Istanbul–Voronej v.v. flights will be started on 4th April 2017 and Istanbul-Samara v.v. flights will also be launched on 11th April 2017. Special round-trip fares are available for Istanbul-Samara starting from 159 USD and for Istanbul-Voronej starting from 189 USD (including taxes).

ourism professionals across the Middle East are furthering their efforts to increase their share of the $168 billion global outbound Chinese tourism market, through a number of travel incentives. With 120 million outbound travellers in 2016 alone, China has retained its position as the world’s largest outbound tourism market for the past four years, according to data released ahead of ATM, taking place at Dubai World Trade Centre from 24 – 27 April 2017. Simon Press, Senior Exhibition Director, ATM, said: “It’s crucial that tourist hubs throughout the Middle East maximise their reach into mega-markets such as China. Demand cycles, budget trends, tech-savvy hotels, food and beverage, sightseeing, culture and heritage centres, can easily be met in many key destinations across the region.”
A number of travel incentives introduced into the region over recent months include visas on arrival for Simon Press Senior Exhibition Director Chinese nationals visiting Qatar ATM and the UAE. The private sector is also employing more Cantonese and Mandarin speaking staff to help ease the language barrier and more Chinese businesses are operating their Middle East and Africa operations from the UAE. “With 4,000 mostly Chinese outlets, Dragon Mart retail centre in Dubai, is a fine example of this,” added Press. Initiatives such as the Qatar China 2016 Year of Culture have also helped boost the profile of Arab states, with arrivals into Doha from Asia and Oceania totaling 342,976 in the first half of last year. “There is every reason to believe that China will maintain its position as a top source market, moving forward. Currently 13 Chinese cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen, as well as Hong Kong and Taipei, are connected to Dubai with more than 100 weekly flights,” said Press. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), China is the second largest global economy, worth $11.3 trillion, and its outbound tourism market was valued at $168 billion globally in 2016, with 59.3 million Chinese nationals travelling abroad in the first half of 2016 and 62 million in the second half, according to a report by Thomson Reuters, an increase of around 4% year-on-year. Elsewhere, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) is preparing to welcome as many as 200,000 Chinese visitors to the emirate by 2021. Looking at inbound visitors from the Middle East into China, the Asian giant’s presence in the ATM country zones will not go unnoticed as it prepares to showcase its travel and hotel brands in both the hospitality and technology areas of the show. Exhibiting for the first time at this year’s event is China National Tourist Board, while The Garden Hotel Company Ltd, Guangzhou returns. Among the others already signed up is start-up aggregator PKFARE, which aims to be one of the largest online B2B marketplaces in the industry. PKFARE was a first-time exhibitor at WTM London in November 2016, following which representatives signed commercial agreements with four new partners. Established in 2014, PKFARE allows agents to book air tickets and hotels around the world, with links to consolidators, hotels and global distribution systems such as Amadeus, Sabre and Travelport.

ahrain witnessed an 8.4% increase in inbound traffic in the third quarter of 2016 and a peak of 1.4 million arrivals during the month of August. With the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority (BTEA) spearheading a robust marketing campaign, the Kingdom expects to welcome 15.8 million annual visitors by 2018. This will represent an increase of 36.2% on current figures and will place the country’s tourism industry on track to reach its $1 billion 2020 target. Simon Press, Senior Exhibition Director, ATM, said: “The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority has engaged with a number of public authorities and private sector organisations over recent months and the returns are beginning to be realised. “The BTEA now operates seven official representation offices worldwide, with a focus on source markets in Europe and Asia, and will continue to work hand-in-hand with hotels, tour operators and cruise lines to achieve its objectives.”
This phenomenal growth will be driven primarily by the leisure sector, which should rise in terms of value by 4.3% per annum to BHD 1.2 billion in 2026, while business arrivals will generate BHD 219.3 million per annum by 2026. As activity continues to increase, GDP contributions from tourism will also rise, from the 10.6% contribution witnessed in 2015 to a predicted 13% contribution towards GDP in 2026. The news comes as inbound investment into Bahrain’s tourism infrastructure reaches new heights. From funding totaling BHD 105.3 million in 2015 representing 5.3% of total investment that year – investment is expected to reach BHD 217.9 million in 2026, which will be 8.6% of the national total. The $1.1 billion Airport Modernisation Programme (AMP) at Bahrain International Airport will double capacity from 7 to 14 million passengers per year, by Q2 2020. STR Global estimates that there is currently, 12,641 rooms and a pipeline of 4,187 rooms, an increase of 33.1% in hotel stock over the coming years. Promoting its hotels, leisure attractions and investment opportunities, the Kingdom of Bahrain will enjoy a strong presence at ATM 2017, with several exhibitors participating. These include the Kingdom of Bahrain Tourism Sector, Ministry of Culture, Sabre, Farhat International Tours & Travels WLL
and the Gulf Hotel Bahrain. The country’s flagship luxury properties, such as Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay and Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa, will also be represented by their respective operators. To drive the expected demand, BTEA’s plans for 2017 include capitalising on the leisure market, particularly the heritage and cultural aspects, regenerating beaches, targeting cruise passengers, as well as the opening of Avenues Bahrain Mall. MoT launches pre-loaded SIM card Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism and Culture, launched the initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for providing pre-loaded SIM Card to foreign tourists arriving in India on e-Visa here.
This initiative has been launched in association with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., (BSNL), wherein BSNL would distribute pre-loaded SIM Cards to foreign tourists arriving in India on e-Visa. This facility will be initially available in the Indira Gandhi International Airport (T3 Terminal), New Delhi and later cover remaining 15 international airports, where e-Visa facility is currently available.

To avail pre-loaded SIM Card, BSNL will collect e-Visa copy and the first page of passport from foreign tourists on arrival at the airport. This facility is only available for tourists arriving in India on e-Visa. SIM cards will be pre-loaded with a value of Rs. 50 talk time and 50 MB data and will be activated on immediate basis so as to enable them use this facility instantly.

In 1833, a British panel sent George Gordon to China to study plantation techniques and implement them in Assam. Gordon returned with Chinese Camellia (tea plant) specimens and workers since the local variety was not commercially viable though more suited to ambient conditions. Crossing the local and Chinese varieties yielded the perfect Indian hybrid, plucked by the ‘tea tribes’ comprising 87 central Indian communities relocated by British planters form central India 150 years ago.

A stay in the tea garden, playing golf and driving through tea country is an unforgettable experience. Mountain Biking & Cycling Reunion Island has around 300kms of mountain biking trails, which conjure up adventure and unknown experiences to be discovered over one or several days. From the most accessible to the hardest routes, the biking trails on the island all require one thing; stability on two wheels. For those looking to be the next Julien Absalon, the downhill trail from the Maïdo the Mégavalanche has become the ultimate downhill tour for all champions. A shuttle service can also provide an all-inclusive downhill experience. Many marked-out and safe biking paths run along the coast for family trips and discovering the spectacular seaside scenery over 25kms. Perhaps you would prefer a recumbent bike or a quad bike? These three or four all-terrain bikes are both fun and comfortable, and will take you to little-known places of natural beauty.
Canyoning Classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its peaks, cirques and slopes, Réunion certainly deserves this title, as nature’s exceptional beauty seems to have reigned on the island since its creation. Among the high-adrenaline sports, Canyoning has found a place to flourish in Réunion. More than 100 incredibly diverse sites, dizzying waterfalls, slides, zip lines and one legendary site named Fleurs Jaunes should all be tested. At Trou Blanc (Salazie), canyoners will find almost a dozen of natural slides (the best place for it on the island), and seven abseiling lines through humid air in the rainy season (after all, the legendary 100-metre Voile de la Mariée waterfall, with its gruesome myths, is close by). There is also Takamaka in the east of the island, with abseiling up to 150 metres and slides up to 10 metres. More hardened fans can take on an expedition with a portable shelter to the Trou de Fer! The trek takes place in the main forest of Bélouve. After walking for the first day in the dry, hikers will face the three fragmented canyons, the last of which is the Trou de Fer (with a technical descent requiring grapnels).

When thinking of a tropical island, the vision of a sandy beach ringed with palm trees and bordered by the tranquil waters of a lagoon come immediately to mind. In Reunion, 18 bathing sports have been tested by the European Commission, which judged the water quality to be excellent.
Diving Reunion is also the place to be for Snorkelling buffs. Just a few meters from the shore, visitors will see the first beautifully coloured fish swimming through the clear water. The view becomes hypnotising when scuba diving, as the underwater landscape is filled with diversely shaped coral, twisted forms like ancient trees, stalactites and large-leaved marine plants. This magical setting is home to a fascinating array of sea life; the trunkfish is black and covered in white dots; the surgeonfish has colourful stripes; the butterflyfish, whose black-pointed tail fin is used to throw off predators; and the turbot, which blends into the sandy ocean bed to rest.
Whale Watching The all-terrain routes through forests and mountains are a real challenge for trail runners confronted by the island’s landforms. Trail runs are held throughout the year in a mystical atmosphere, an extraordinary setting and a natural environment as surprising as it is varied. The most famous race, called the Grand Raid, or the Crazy Diagonal is without doubt the most prestigious trail race organised on Reunion Island. Every year this legendary race attracts thousands of enthusiasts to the island from all over the world. Known for its waterfalls, its chayote squash farms, its authenticity and its exceptional setting, Salazie has become a trail station on the Raidlight network. The cirque of Salazie has magnificent and improbably steep looking, yet well maintained trails that will take you through stunning locations and breathtaking scenery. Three Long-Distance Footpaths: Three routes have been designated long distance footpaths by the French Walking Federation - what more could trekkers want. Accompanied by experienced guides or by yourself, the succession of exceptional sites and landscapes help you discover Reunion Island in complete peace of mind. The GR R1 loops round the famous Piton des Neiges, which at 3,071 meters high is the island’s highest summit and crosses the three cirques: Salazie, Mafate and Cilaos. The GR R1 is 60kms long and can be covered in six stages passing through the heart of the mountains. The GR R2 crosses the island from North to South over a distance of 130kms: mountain peaks, nature reserves, cirques, Piton des Neiges and Piton de la Fournaise are all on the itinerary. The GR R3 can be covered in five days. This route fully explores the cirque of Mafate, which is only accessible on foot.

From June to October, the whales from the Antarctic sometimes frolic a stone’s throw from visitors to the Indian Ocean. Taiwan Tourism Bureau holds workshops in Mumbai and Bengaluru WH Desk

aiwan had witnessed an exponential growth of Indian tourists in the year 2016. Since India is one of the major markets for Taiwan, for the first time Taiwan Tourism Bureau held an educational seminar post OTM for the 200 front liner staff of key travel companies followed by Workshop and cocktail dinner in Mumbai and Bengaluru. The aim of the seminar was to educate and motivate the front liner staff of Mumbai, and update their knowledge about Taiwan, the products it has to offer, USP’s of the destination, exchange rate, visa and the how it caters to different segments of the Indian travellers.
The educational seminar was divided into different sessions. In the first session general information on Taiwan was given by a special speaker Ngan Kok Lim, who talked about various aspects of the destination showcasing the best of Taiwan. This was followed by couple of other sessions which talked about outdoor activities, environment of Taiwan, Sea Shore and Bay Area, festivals, shopping and night life of Taiwan. In order to further strengthen promotions and to make the workshop experience vital and interesting, Taiwan Tourism Bureau planned an examination session which was a special questionnaire round, where the front liner staff was given asked to prepare an itinerary to Taiwan with some multiple choice questions. Top 20 performers were awarded with Iphone 6, Ipad, and exciting gift hampers from TTB. Participated in OneWorld Travel Mart Taiwan Participated at OneWorld Travel Mart an annual event that was held from 21-23 February 2017 in Mumbai. More than 1154 participants from 60 countries were present at OTM, and showcased their best products to the trade visitors from all over India. In order to boost the number of visitors to Taiwan Tourism Bureau stand, traditional dance and music performances were carried by Hong Yi Group who flew to India especially from Taiwan. Travellers from Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad displayed longer average trip duration as compared to travellers from Pune and Jaipur. The average travel duration for Ahmedabad was 11 days, followed by Mumbai and Hyderabad with an average travel duration of 8 days.

The search highlighted that Indians are willing to take an extra holiday and begin their journey’s on Friday as compared to waiting till Sunday. Friday’s remained the most popular journey start day for Indians with Saturday coming to a close second choice.
The data also interestingly pointed out that Indians like to make their search queries at noon, with the popular search hour staying to be 12:30 to 1:30 pm. However, in Cities like Mumbai and Kolkata, the search hour was indicated to be 3:30 to 4:30 pm, which also was the second most preferred timing for the Indians to make travel plans and book their tickets. The least preferred time for Indians was revealed to be from 4:40 – 5:30 pm. Average Number of Days Indians Book in Advance As for 2016, Indians made fairly articulated travel plans with the average of 30- 32 days before their trips. Travellers from Kolkata made bookings 45 days prior to the trip, which was the longest lead time to travel, compared to other India travellers analysed in this report. Bookings from Jaipur and Hyderabad showed a relatively less number of days, with an average of 24-25 days prior to their trips.

ndian consumers have made a shift to shorter and more frequent trips within India and international and this is in addition to a long annual family holiday. While 2016 saw public holidays falling on Sundays, 2017 offers travellers strong opportunity a choice of 14 long/extended weekends that offers the promise of weekend getaways to tick off their travel bucket list without taking time off work. Thomas Cook India’s research highlights that Indians are quintessential workaholics and such extended weekends offer a welcome break to relax and rejuvenate, bond with their loved ones or indulge in their interests while exploring a new destination. Thomas Cook India has observed significant trends of explorers embarking on short journeys during long weekends, here are some of them: ÂÂThe smart Indian traveller is leveraging the opportunity that multiple public (state or central, religious) holidays bring by clubbing them together with weekends for a well deserved 3-4 day mini-holiday. ÂÂShort haul international destinations are growing in popularity given easy access with flight time under 5 hours. Increased connectivity-penetration, attractive airfares/discounts, and entry of Low Cost Carriers have added impetus to the long weekend growth story. ÂÂThomas Cook India’s data reveals strong uptake for destinations like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Bali, Mauritius and Maldives as well as a growing trend for ’Domestic Getaways’ exploring the serene landscapes of Himachal Pradesh, adrenalin infused white water rafting and outdoor adventure in Uttarakhand, Kerala for Ayurveda or a backwater experience on a houseboat, Mysore , Ooty, Goa. ÂÂVisa-on-arrival destinations offer scope for India’s last minute travellers, sans the stress of processing visas e.g: Thailand, Indonesia, Jordan, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Reunion Islands. ÂÂDestinations like Singapore smartly offer long term multi entry visas of 2 years, and this gives value conscious Indians the ability to maximize the visa cost with repeat trips to Singapore. ÂÂOur data indicates: 45% of our customers prefer domestic holidays while 55% prefer international short haul destinations. ÂÂMost Indian travellers tend to book weekend international holidays at least 30days in advance. Last minute bookers (less than 20 days prior) account for 30% of the company’s travellers. A 50:50 split was observed for domestic travel. ÂÂObserved a surge in weekend bookings: of over 35% (international) and 50% (domestic) as compared to last year (2016 vs. 2017).
