This year saw the tourism industry in Banff turned on its head. With international borders closed to prevent the spread of Covid-19, and Banff National Park shutting down for months at a time, the community was hit hard by the pandemic. There were rays of hope through this time, however, that showed businesses giving back to the community. The North Face (p 44) created the Storms Pass, Community Lasts campaign, which saw proceeds from their popular Coordinates T-shirts supporting local non-profits. Smartwool (p 44) sold exclusive socks in Banff for their Goods for the Greater Good campaign. Both of these companies have shown their efforts to create a stronger community in the face of economic adversity. -TAYLOR JAINE

Before Lake Louise was named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, it was called Horâ Juthin Îmne, which means “Lake of the Little Fishes”, by the Stoney Nakoda people.
