know, I know; “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” is a bit trite and overused. But there’s normally a reason for such things, yes? And in this case, it’s because it truly is. An awesome time, that is. Orlando welcomes millions of guests each year, and the winter holidays are a popular time to visit. People come for vacation and to visit family. They arrive to escape the cold and experience a change of scenery. And yes, they expect to celebrate while they are here. And so, you’ll find that the holidays—Christmas especially—are heralded with a fervor and duration unmatched by most places. Read about some of our favorite holiday events on page 10, where you’ll find the big ticket events at the theme parks, as well as locally favored traditions, such as Christmas in the Park, pictured above. Not into hoho-ho? Our calendar of events on page 8 offers lots of other options. If your tastes run to culinary pursuits, live like a local and check out Delaney’s Tavern, recently opened in the up-and-coming SoDo (South of Downtown) District. With an exciting menu of New American fare, this cozy yet vibrant spot promises to be the neighborhood hang out in short order. You’ll find contact information in our Guide.

tching to wear that ugly Christmas sweater? You’ve come to the right place. Satisfy your craving for all things jovial at a panoply of holiday happenings. On the theme park front, Disney kicks off the fun with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, a separately ticketed event taking place select nights in Magic Kingdom. Enjoy all the pomp of an exclusive parade and fireworks show, complete with a snowfall on Main Street. At neighboring Epcot, learn about holiday traditions from all over the world during the International Festival of the Holidays. Stroll through World Showcase and listen while storytellers bring tales from their homelands to life as you taste the flavors of the season at 13 holiday kitchens. Celebrate the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, enjoy a meet and greet with the Grinch and deck the halls Hogwarts style at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Other attractions celebrate the traditional Christmas story. At SeaWorld,

guests can observe the Tale of Three Kings, complete with a live nativity scene. The fete continues in the new year with the Three Kings Celebration January 1-6. At The Holy Land Experience, the spirit of the season comes alive with The Heart of Christmas, a Broadway-style production that follows two families, living in radically different times, as they search for the true meaning behind the merriment. If you prefer to live like a local and mix a little culture with your observance, enjoy holidays with an artistic flair. At Orlando Museum of Art, the Festival of Trees takes place November 15-24, and this year’s theme, “Merry and Bright,” promises a sparkling display of trees, wreaths and tabletops to ensure you leave inspired. In Winter Park, bring your picnic and gather for Christmas in the Park, when nine Tiffany leaded glass windows are lit and Central Park is transformed into a concert hall for the 160-voice Bach Festival Society Choir. The free outdoor concert takes place on December 5 at 6:15 p.m. Arrive early to get a good seat.

Before that, on November 23, watch as the Florida A&M Rattlers take on the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in the Florida Blue Florida Classic, a matchup that’s become the biggest HBCU game in the country. Bowl time starts on December 21, as you head to Exploria Stadium to cheer on two well-matched teams in the Cure Bowl, while raising funds for breast cancer research. The fun continues on December 28 with the Camping World Bowl between the ACC and the Big 12 conferences. WINTER PARK, Fla. — Of the many unexpected pleasures awaiting Central Florida’s visitors, none may be as dazzling as a stroll through the galleries of The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by American artist and designer Louis Comfort Tiffany. The Tiffany collection at the Morse includes the designer’s jewelry, pottery, paintings, and art glass, as well as his famed leaded-glass lamps and windows. Highlights include the restored ByzantineRomanesque chapel interior that Tiffany designed for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago and art and architectural objects from his celebrated Long Island estate, Laurelton Hall. The Morse was founded by Jeannette Genius McKean (1909–89) in 1942 and named for her industrialist grandfather. She and her husband, Hugh F. McKean (1908–95), the Museum’s director until his death, built the collection over a 50-year period. In 1957, when a fire ravaged Tiffany’s Laurelton Hall, the McKeans salvaged all that they could from the ruins for the Morse. In the Museum’s galleries, visitors will also find exhibits of American art pottery, Art Nouveau furnishings and objects, and late 19th- and early 20th-century American paintings.
