Snow
Tutorial by Kristy Dalman
Hi! Kristy Dalman, the owner/artist of Some Odd Girl here thrilled to be bring you a tutorial that I hope will be helpful during your winter and holiday crafting! I want to share with you how I color SNOW. You can also take this idea and apply it to coloring white items (polar bears, flowers, etc etc) but the colors I'll be using will be specific to the white stuff that keeps me indoors during the winter. Lets get started!
1
2 1
Step 1: I'm using Snowman Tobie, well primarily the snowman part of the image, in this tut along with Copic colors BG70, BG72, BG90, BG93, BG96 and the optional color of YR30. So when coloring white anything what you are trying to do is to add shape and dimension to the object using your shading but without over powering the white color... or its not going to look white is it? :) So we are leaving the bulk of the image just as it prints out and then adding our colors just into the shadow and shaded portions. Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine
71
October 2012, Issue 10
Tips & Tutorials: Coloring Snow
3
2
Step 2: The first thing I do is to use BG70, which is a super light greyish blue-green, to establish my shape. So on the snowman to make each section look rounder and kind of lumpy. Adding texture is a great way to add interest to white objects without overpowering the white!
Step 3: then I use my Colorless Blender, 0, and just "smooth it out"
5
4
Step 4: While its still wet, I add in BG72 to add more shading and texture. Snow is lumpy after you roll it into a ball so showing that only adds to your coloring. Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine
Step 5: Then to add more "shadow" while keeping the cool feel, I'm adding in BG93 to add to the shape and texture.
72
October 2012, Issue 10
Tips & Tutorials: Coloring Snow
6
Step 6: Now, as I like a pop in contrast no matter what I'm coloring, I add in BG96 to the darkest portions of the shadows. You might think that a color that dark would be too much on something that is suppose to be white but white really does have more shadow than you think! Try it! I really think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Step 7: To kind of "soften" my texture and bring the colors together I first use BG90 to go over the areas I added in BG93/BG96 still using the same type of motion I did to add the texture. Then over it all the same thing was done with BG70.
7
8
Step 8 (optional): We've done a nice job of really showing the shape of our snowman here with our shading with the BGs but if you want to give it an extra kick why not at a highlight to the top to add to the roundness of the snowman. I used YR30, which is a subtle color. It makes the cold snow feel like its out on a sunny winter's day. I hope you've enjoyed how I like to color snow and I hope this helps you when you go ward off the chill with some fun coloring this winter!

Tutorial by
Iris Wiechmann
Christmas Crackers - invented in England and usually pulled at the Christmas table or at parties can be easily self-made. I also like the idea that I can fill the crackers myself with little things like candies, chocolates or small gifts, rather than have the pre-filled ones. In this tutorial I like to show you how you can easily and quickly make your own crackers.
What you’ll need: - paper rolls (toilet paper, paper towels) or cardboard to make your own - tissue paper in desired color or gift wrapping paper - cracker snaps - if not widely available in your country you can order them online or around Christmas time they are also sometimes available in craft stores like Michaels (US) - ribbon or string - designer paper long enough to fit around the cracker - sentiment, colored image, embellishments to decorate the cracker - filling - what every you like to put inside the cracker
1
2
Step 2: Add a little bit of glue to the paper roll to secure the tissue paper before wrapping. Don't glue the whole length, it would make the cracker hard to pull apart later.
Step 1: I used a paper roll from toilet paper and cut it in half. I don't want my cracker to be that large butyou can make your cracker as big as you like of course. Then cut a piece of tissue paper to wrap around your paper roll. The size of the paper should be about 3 times as wide as your paper roll is and long enough to wrap around the paper roll a few times. I used tissue paper and before I cut it to the desired size I folded it so it was in 3-4 layers.

Tips & Tutorials: Holiday Cracker
3 4 Step 4: At the end I folded the paper over once to have a clean seam and added a little glue again to secure the tissue paper. Step 3: Now start wrapping you paper roll.
5 6 Step 6: It's time now to add the cracker snap. Don't glue on the whole snap, it won't snap later. Just add a little dot of glue to the ends or if you prefer gluing it in the middle, just add a small dot right where the actual 'snap' is. Step 5: This is how your wrapped paper roll looks from the inside now.
7
8 Step 8: Tie one end of the cracker using ribbon or string. Be careful not to tear the paper and/or the cracker snap. Step 7: Insert your snap into the roll and adhere the ends with the glue to the tissue paper. Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

9
Step 9: Here you can see the snap inside the tied paper.
10
Step 10: Fill your cracker! I filled mine with two candies and some punched out stars
11 12
Step 11: Carefully tie the other end.
13
Step 13: The cracker with the added designer paper. Now add your embellishments.
Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine
Step 12: We can now start decorating the cracker. I like to add matching designer paper, wrapping it around the cracker. This doesn't only look nice it also adds a little bit more stability to the cracker and makes it easier to adhere your embellishments.
14 Step 14: I've added a sentiment, paper flower, punched out snowflake, star and some glitter

Tutorial by Sylvia Blum Here’s a little step-by-step tutorial on how to create a shaped Easel card. I’ve used a Spellbinders Label shape here in this example, but you can use any kind of shape you want to! No matter you are using a label shape, a heart shape or a circle or whatever you want, the basic technique remains the same.
What you’ll need: die cutting machine, metal die to cut out shape, stamps and embellishments, tape/glue, paper

Step 1: Create a card base from white cardstock and score it in half, so it is slightly larger than the shape you want to use and tape
down the die (to create the shape) so the card fold will not be cut
2 Step 2: This is what it looks from the back when you taped the die down correctly. © Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine
3 Step 3: Run it through your die cutting machine and this is what you will get this. 78

Step 5: Now choose the patterned papers you want to use on your card and die cut them using the same shape than for your card base. Adhere one of them to the bottom of your card. Put adhesive (I like to use tape, but you can use whatever glue you usually use) to the side of the upper flap of your card that is in front of you, when folding down the scored line (see photo). It’s very important you ONLY put adhesive onto this half and NOT to the whole flap!!!
Step 6:Adhere the second patterned paper to the front (see photo). It’s helpful to put a brad or button onto the bottom flap of the card, so the front has a ‘stop’ when opened up. Now it’s time to embellish to your liking and you’re done.

Tutorial by Iris Wiechmann Muslin bags are very versatile and also make great gift bags. Jazz them up to match your cards or as a unique packaging for this very special gift. In this tutorial I would like to show you how to stamp and color on muslin fabric using Copic markers and Prisma pencils.
What you’ll need: - Muslin bag of desired size (Important: prewashed and ironed) - stamp of your choice - Memento dye ink (I used Tuxedo Black) - piece of cardstock that will fit in the bag - Copic markers (or other alcohol markers) - Prisma pencils (I prefer Prisma pencils as they are smooth and soft (due to being wax based) and easy to color with on fabric) - Some scrap fabric to practice - …and of course, embellishments of your choice to decorate your bag later on.
1 Step 1: To avoid stains on the back of your bag while coloring, slide in a piece of white cardstock as protective sheet. It also makes a great base for coloring.

2 Step 2: The image I'm using is 'Little Jack Drumming' by Elisabeth Bell for Whimsy Stamps. Make sure you pre-wash (no fabric softener) and iron your muslin bag before applying any ink to it. Now stamp your image onto the fabric. Do not press too hard or leave the stamp on too long as the image might become fuzzy. Remember you are stamping on fabric not on cardstock. The fibers of the fabric soak up the ink quickly and if you press too hard or have the stamp sitting on the fabric too long the ink might bleed and your image will look blurry. You can always practice on a piece of scrap fabric.

Step 3: We will lay down a base color with Copics and add shadows using Prisma pencils. I start with the hat using E42. Coloring directly on the fabric is somewhat different from coloring on paper. The ink of the pen travels fast on the fabric fibers. So it is very important that you color very light handed with soft, light, flicking strokes. Don't have the nib of the pen touching the fabric too long! And also do not color all the way to the edges of your image. Let the ink travel and then decide if more ink is needed. The fabric can be over saturated easily it can bleed very quickly over the lines.
4
Step 4: Continue with the skin and E000. I always go with a lighter color choice. In my experience the inks turn out a little darker on the fabric than they would on paper. And remember we are adding shadow later with pencils.
6
5
Step 5: I use G21 and YG93 for the holly leaves and the hat band.
7
Step 7: Continue coloring your image. E35 was used for the top of the hat and part of the shoes, YG93 for the scarf and cuffs on pants and sweater. R02 for some patches, E30 for the shoes and shirt.

Step 6: R05 for the sweater and some accents and YG91 for the pants. Take extra care when using red. I have found that red bleeds quicker than other colors do.

Step 8: At last I colored the cat and the drum using Y15 and YR23 for the parts I want to appear golden. The cat was colored using W1 and I added a little B0000 to the drum to have the 81

9 Step 9: Now we are adding shadows and giving the image some depth using Prisma pencils. Due to their waxy and soft nature you can also blend the Prismas easily on fabric if desired. use your fingers, apiece of scrap fabric or a cotton ball/Q-Tip to do so. (NO blending medium!) I start using dark brown on the hat. Just start where it would be the darkest and then you can built up color. More pressure where it would be darkest and with a light touch where it is going to blend in the marker color. I used the following pencils on the hat: dark brown, sepia, olive green, peacock green, raspberry, french grey 70%
11 Step 11: The final coloring steps will be adding an outline and some shadows on the floor. For the outline I used non-photo blue and cool grey 70% for the shadows. Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine
10 Step 10: Continue adding shadows and depth to the rest of the image. Prisma colors used in addition to the ones already listed before: kelp green, chocolate, warm grey 50%, light cerulean blue, muted turquoise, crimson red, peach, beige, blush pink, french grey 50%, light umber
12 Step 12: After finishing coloring I recommend heat setting the image with an iron to prevent the pencil colors from rubbing off. Use a dry iron (NO steam) and pressing on the back of the image. Put an absorbent piece of paper between your image and the ironing board. 82

To decorate your bag you can use whatever you like and you have on hand. I used ribbon, lace, self-adhesive gems, paper flowers, jingle bells, burlab string, die cuts, Stickles, etc. One more close-up look on the image and the bag is ready to be decorated.
I hope I could inspire you with this tutorial to try coloring on fabric/muslin, it's a lot of fun and has a great effect!

Tutorial by Tammy Louise Cunliffe There are times when I'm in love with a multi colored ribbon and simply can't find design paper to match. Do you love to alter items and make seemingly useless items desirable again? For pennies, you to can create several different types of backgrounds or imitation design paper for your projects with this easy tutorial. The webpage is clothpaperscissors.com by Linda Calverley and I'm so excited to share this technique with you I learned in my card class demonstrated by Linda Krench in our monthly card workshop. "Make your own rolling stamps with fun foam".
What you’ll need: foam, dies, recycled tape rolls, tape and/or glue, ink, ribbon, paper
Step 1: Using sheets of inexpensive fun foam and recycled calculator tape rolls either two together or single rolls to create the rolled stamps
1 Step 2: Use any of your favorite die with a design to create your stamp, today I used Spellbinders Eyelets Border #1
