Whimsy is proud to introduce you to our newest Magazine Staff Designers, Sylvia Blum and Tammy Louise Cunliffe! These talented ladies will knock your socks off with their beautiful creations. Sylvia’s specialty is working with clean and simple design and Tammy is our Shape EZ rock star!
My name is Sylvia Blum, I'm a mom to four boys (aged 7 to 19) and two dogs and wife to a very supportive husband. We live in the beautiful Southwest of the Black Forest (Germany). I work full time as a software developer and project manager by day, and by night I am a passionate paper crafter, card maker and stamper. Being creative and playing with paper and stamps is my little escape from the everyday stress. I was on the Whimsy DT for one year in 2011 and loved it! I'm thrilled that I have now been given the opportunity to work with the beautiful Whimsy Stamps sentiment stamps and dies again as a magazine staff designer!

Hello all, my name is Tammy Louise Cunliffe and I'm an orange & red Gerber oving Marilyn Monroe style enthusiast. I love everything showing the strength of women like Amelia , Betsy and Elizabeth! Married 24 years, mother of two and a resident of The Great Lakes State of Michigan. I recycle everything and I believe that if it's hand made, it's worth while. With every post there is a Inspirational Thought because I feel without inspiration, it's just no fun. My paper crafting began with the photo's of my first child and went from scrap booking to sentimental card making and now I incorporate my love of coloring in my greeting cards and crafts. As a DT member, designer of the SVG cut template line "Shape EZ by TLC", and now designing die templates in the Shapeology line at Whimsy, my journey can only get better as I am just thrilled to be working with all of the extremely talented artists that make up the Whimsy Stamps Team helping to inspire all of you.

by Iris Wiechmann This Copic blending technique is used if you like to blend two different colors together. In this little tutorial I like to show you my way of using this technique. I used the yellow-greens (YG21-YG23YG17) and a pink-violet tone using red-violets (RV52-RV55-RV19). The image is a Whimsy digital image from the Moon Cookie Gallery collection called Leslie the Tulip Fairy. I enlarged the image a little so it is easier to show the coloring on the tulip. I thought the tulip is just perfect for demonstrating feather blending as there ae a lot two toned tulips.
Step 1: Choose the darkest color of one of the two tones. Start on one end of the flower with light and quick feathering strokes. In my case YG17. The fringed edges you can see is what you want when feather blending.
Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
16
Step 2: Now take your next lighter color which is your mid tone (YG23) and continue in the same way with light feathery strokes. It is important with this technique to use a light hand.
Step 3: Now take your palest yellow-green and work with the same motion strokes towards the middle of the tulip. But don't go any further than the middle for now.
Step 4: Start on the opposite end with your darkest color of the pink-violets which is RV19
Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
17
Step 5: Next use your mid tone RV55 as you did before with the yellowgreens
Step 6: With the palest pink-violet tone, RV52, work your way towards the middle and finally meeting the yellowgreens. It's important to always use light feathery strokes as you blend in to the opposite color because you don't want to end up with a grubby looking color. Only the light feathery strokes will give you a nice blend and you don't want to have color blocks either.
Step 7: Now take your lightest green again and with the same type of strokes blend into the lightest pink.
Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
18
Step 8: Vice versa with the lightest pink.
Step 9: Now you can go over your whole image a few times to get the depth of color you are trying to achieve. And voila, you are done blending together yellow-greens and violet-pinks! Have fun feather blending!

by Patricia Garcia Magazine Staff Designer Patricia shows us how transform a simple piece of ribbon into a beautiful flower accent in this simple step by step tutorial. Use these ribbon embellishments to jazz up your cards, scrap book layouts,
Supplies: Pull Ribbon (Assorted Colors and Styles), Scissors, Brads
Step 1: Cut Desired Length of Ribbon, depending on the size and pleats of the flower. I cut these at about 6 1/2 inches.
Step 2: Start Pulling Both ends of the string, pleating the ribbon and tying a knot a bit tight.
Step 3: Your Ribbon should look like this, starting to take form of a flower.
Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
20
Step 4: Snip Off Both Ends of string.
Step 5: Now your Ribbon looks like a flower and is ready for a center, I like adding Brads but I think you could add anything pretty.
Step 6: The Final results, I added different brads for different looks, the possibilities are endless.

by Iris Wiechmann In this tutorial I would like to show you how to make a flip card base which is not only square or rectangular. You can actually pick whatever shape you like using your dies. For my card I decided to use Spellbinders Labels 18 die.
What you need: - cardstock piece 5 1/2 x 11 inches (heavy cardstock is best, e.g. 110 lbs) - die of your choice - pencil - ruler - bone folder - die cutting machine
Step 1: Score and fold your piece of cardstock at 5 1/2 inches
Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
31
Step 2: Now measure and mark the center (2.75 inches) on top and bottom of the left side of your card.
Step 3: Position your die in the center of the left side of your card, using your marks as a guide. Secure the die with a piece of low tack tape.
Step 4: Now we have to cut it out. I use my die cutting machine as I normally would with just a little twist. Because we only want to cut out half of the shape for our flip card. In my case I use the Cuttlebug. My sandwich for this is Aplate on bottom, then the B-Plate and then the cardstock with the attached die on top (see picture).
Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
32
Step 5: The last part of my sandwich is the C-plate. This is also my standard sandwich to cut thin dies (I know a lot of you do it with the die facing up, but this is how I like it best). The difference is that you only cover half of the die with the C-plate. This way only that half of the die gets cut out which is covered by the C-plate. Using your marks on the card as a guide again. Now run it through your machine making sure it doesn't shift. This is the only part that's a bit tricky. But if you do some test runs you get used to it pretty quick. It is really not difficult at all. I only used this technique with my Cuttlebug but I'm pretty sure it works similar with other machines.
Step 6: This is how your card looks after you cut it.
Step 7: Before we can finally fold it we need to score it again. Score from your top mark down to where your die cut shape begins and from your bottom mark up to the die cut shape (see picture). Now fold it to the left. And voila your are done!
Your flip card base is now ready to be decorated. Please see my finished flip card on page 30. Have fun making flip cards and I hope you enjoyed the tutorial.

by Tammy Louise Cunliffe Texture and design with Mod Podge - Can’t find the perfect Design Paper for your project or are you looking to put a personal touch to a special project? Look no further than the dollar store and their outstanding designs and colors of Tissue Paper.
I recycle tissue paper when sent with gifts by tearing out a portion that is larger than the stock paper I've decided to cover with it. Like above, the tissue paper had tears in it from the tape so the center was the largest color variety non ruined portion.
Step 2: Drop and spread the Mod Podge on the surface shape of stock for your project Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Step 1: I use Mod Podge to adhere it to the stock and to put a shine and crinkle effect on the stock
Step 3: Cover entirely and quickly
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
44
Step 4: When placing the tissue paper on the stock, and crinkle it inward while being sure to cover all of the outside edges
Step 5: Start to cover the tissue paper with Mod Podge while pulling in from the outside edges and covering the wrinkles and leaving them intact, pull as much of the tissue inward as to not leave much to cut away from the edge.
Step 7: Be sure to not leave "puddles"of glue at the creases as it will be too gummy and take away from the effect of texture Step 6: Leave this to dry thoroughly on a surface that will not stick
Step 9: This is the finished product to be used for texture,, color and layer to your project. This method can be used on small die cuts, the entire base of the card instead of DP or on items such as chipboard.
Step 8: Trim away the entire edge of excess tissue paper You can see Tammy Louise finished project on page 41! down to the stock Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps

by Tammy Louise Cunliffe In this tutorial, Tammy’s shows you another way to use your Nestability dies. We all know they cut our paper, but did you know, they will cut through any lightweight material? With these scallop circle cloth pieces, you can create a one of a kind embellishment for your project. Even mix and match colors that will coordinate with your specific needs. An use any gems, brads or even buttons in the center to add that bling.
Step 1: I used two different sized Spellbinder circles and 3 layers of material at a time and did very little snipping to finish the cuts with the Cuttlebug
Step 2: 9 of each size circle for two different flowers
Step 4: Fold the circle in half again
Step 3: Fold the circle in half Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
53
Step 5: Then fold the circle a third time in half
Step 6: When you sew through, make sure all of the layers are included and about 1/8 inch away from the corner for fullness of flower
Step 7: When the 8 petals are on the string as above, pull tight to enclose them
Step 8: Shape a circle with the flower petals from the bottom and close the circle by sewing the first petal to the last
Step 9: Still upside down, place the last petal over and bring string up through

Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
54
Step 10: Squeeze the flower and sew the bottom circle to cinch the petals closely together around the tips of the petals
The flowers are complete, turn them over, fluff them and add desired embellishments. The side view shows the two different size circles used and the height of the flower.

In this issue we are joined by the talented team from Little Darling Stamps and owner Angie Hunt as we share how well Little Darling Stamps work with Whimsy sentiments and dies! Our DTs have joined together to create the beautiful projects seen here in our company team up feature! Here’s a few words from Angie Hunt: “Little Darlings Rubber Stamps is a manufacturer/distributor of rubber craft stamps. We began our journey in 2011 with the creation of the Little Darlings characters and have since added Cutie Pies and Background stamps. This year we have plans to add even more products to our line and will be debuting them at CHA in July.”

by Tammy Louise Cunliffe Who doesn't love those soft ,silky beautifully symmetrical flowers on their projects? If you have 5 extra minutes and want to save some pretty pennies, try this great tip for yourself! What you need: - circle die cuts - die-cutting machine - satin, tulle, and various other types of fabric - pearls - candle and match
Step 1: Once the circles are cut, I use open flame, but the heat tool works as well, do not leave the material directly under flame too long as the material will over brown. Practice and avoid burning
Step 2: This petal is sealed and automatically curled up from the flame
Step 3: I've cut from two shades of satin, one cotton and one from tulle for texture, the tulle and the lightest satin are from the same size die
Step 4: Layer your flowers as desired from large to small, some of the flowers can be 4 and 5 layers, others are with 3, this is your preference and each project can look entirely different with the various styles!
Step 5: I place the pearl brad from Wild Orcid Crafts in the center and wiggle it through the material and clasp in the back
Step 6: Here are some of the samples done within 5 minutes time, and the toastier one on the right is my favorite! It lookes like a perfectly aged blossom but the softer looking bloom is the one for this project!

by Lori Pachkowsky Tired of making plain old square cards? Well here is a tutorial from Staff Designer Lori which shows us how to make a fun criss cross card with pull out insert! Follow her step by step tutorial and go from plain to pizzazz!
Step 1: To form the criss cross part you will need one piece of 12x12 cardstock cut in half. A 5.75 x 5.75 inch piece of contrasting cardstock. Two pieces of designer paper 5.5 x 5.5 inches.
Step 2: Score both pieces of 12 x 6 cardstock in the centre. Now take a ruler and place it over the card stock from the centre fold to one of the corners. Using and exacto knife cut along the ruler line.
Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Step 3: Take your other piece of 12 x 6 cardstock and match the ruler the same as above and cut. Please not you want to cut this triangle section on the opposite side as above. See photo. So that once joined the two sections will overlap.
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
69
Step 4: Glue one piece of cardstock on the other so it looks like this.
Step 5: Score the 5.75 x5.75 and two 5.5x5.5 inch squares
Step 6: Glue the designer paper to the cardstock. (Note: You will not need the remaining two designer paper triangles.) I wanted my papers to contrast. If you would like them to match then you only need use one piece of 5.5 x 5.5 inch designer paper cut diagonally.
Step 7: Glue these pieces to the matching sections of the card base. For the inside piece run a small strip of double stick tape across the bottom and secure. Do the same to the top triangle.

by Sylvia Blum With just a few simple supplies you can transform a piece of cardboard into a fabulous gift tag! Following Slyvia as she shows us how to make the beautiful gift tag for Mother’s Day! Supplies: - large manila luggage tag - scraps of patterned paper - ruler - paper piercer - paper cutter - white gel pen - white ink - white paint - pearls - embellishments
Step 1: Gather your supplies: a large manila luggage tag, and some scraps of patterned paper. Then glue the papers on your tag and cut away overlaying pieces of paper Š 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Step 2: Use a paper piercer and a ruler to create a faux sewing border around the tag.
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine, Issue 8, April 2012
80
Step 3: Using a white gel pen, draw the ‘faux sewing’ where you poked the ‘stitching holes’ before. Then distress the edges of the tag with some white ink and use some white paint and make some random white splatters on the tag
Step 4: Lightly draw a stylized butterfly ‘tail’ with a pencil onto the tag, then use your paper piercing tool to follow the lines. After you’ve pierced everything you can erase the pencil lines with an eraser
Step 5: Use some tiny white pearls to put them onto the ‘tail’ © 2012 Whimsy Stamps
Step 6: Die cut a tag using the ‘Double Scallop Tag’ die and stamp ‘with Love’ (from the ‘Filmstrip Sentiments’ set), distress it and adhere to the large tag

81
Step 7: Add a butterfly (who’s tail you’ve already created in step 4) and some more embellishments and you are done with a neat tag that you can either give away for Mother’s Day or just to someone else who’s special to you!
