This issue is crammed full with gorgeous new card ideas, informative tutorials and tips to expand your crafting abilities, and ideas for creating scrapbook layouts, mini albums, bag, tags, and much more! We do have a few publication changes we want to inform our readers about. In the past, all Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine issues have been available to read online free of charge. These free issues will continue, however the online publications will be released as a slimmed down version of our new print publication. We have received an increased demand for a print version of our issues and so we have decided that moving forward, all new publications will be available in full color print through our shop. Online readers can continue to find our e-magazine online through our host site Issuu – http://issuu.com/whimsystamps/docs We thank you for your continued support and hope you are inspired by the projects you see and the creative and fun ways to use our Whimsy Stamps products. I would also like to extend a huge thanks to Janna Sicard. Janna is our new Supplies Content Editor and she worked tirelessly to compile the supplies lists and edits for this issue. Thanks Janna! Until next time, happy crafting from your friends at Whimsy Stamps!
- Denise Hello crafty comrades! First and foremost, my sincere thanks and gratitude goes out to you, the Whimsy fans, for supporting our publications. Our first print edition of the Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine (Tips & Tutorials, Volume I) was a huge hit and we are reeling at the amount of compliments and support that you have all given us. Second, I would like to thank our new addition to the editor’s team: Janna Sicard! She has been invaluable in these publications and without her, we would always be late :) Third, we would not be able to have these publications without the creative souls and endless dedication of the best design team in the stamping world: the Whimsy Stamps Design Team and Magazine Staff Designers! The editors and customers thank you for the inspiration you give us in every publication through each fantastic creation. And now that all the thank you’s are out of the way, I just wanted to take a quick few minutes to mention how much I thoroughly enjoyed working on this issue. These pages are filled with wonderful new creations and information tutorials that we’re sure you’ll go back to over and over again. I always look forward to seeing the creativity in the Beyond Cards, Sentimental Stamping, and Tutorials sections and the design team has again delivered! We hope that you enjoy this publication, and as always, we are forever grateful for your support! Until next time!

{joy & peace} Bag by Marilyn Scheller; Stamps: Whimsy Stamps Season’s Greetings Sentiments; Papers: Imaginisce Polar Expressions; Tools: Whimsy Stamps Shape EZ Poinsettia and Roll Bag templates; Embellishments: Pearl brad from the stash; the ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbon Techniques: Since I don’t have a cutting machine, I simply printed the template on the wrong side of the paper, cut it out, scored the fold lines, and ran a couple strips of glue and the bag are nearly finished. I cut two holes front and back, pulled the ribbon through and tied the bow. For the poinsettia (because I didn’t want to run glitter paper through the printer,) I printed it on plain white paper and attached it to the glitter paper with a dab of adhesive and cut around the edges. Then some silver stickles and a pearl brad were added to complete the flower. The sentiment is printed and the matting is cut using a small rectangle Nestabilities and adding silver Stickles around the border.

We are very excited to introduce you to our newest rubber stamp artist, Elisabeth Bell! Elisabeth lent her talents in the design our of beautiful company logo and now we have her gorgeous Little Cottage Cuties Collection at Whimsy. It’s been a true joy to work with Elisabeth and an honor to share her designs at Whimsy Stamps.
Tell us a little about yourself - anything you'd like to share about you personally. "By small and simple means are great things brought to pass," is one of my favorite quotes. I am the eldest in my family, and the eldest grandchild on my Mother's side. I love dark chocolate. My most favorite sound in the world is hearing my children laugh. My other most favorite is hearing my husband sing to me. My second most favorite sound is listening to the birds sing in the morning. My first kiss was when I was 18 years old (and I hated it lol!). My husband and I met on a humanitarian mission in Utah. He wrote to me one month after he got home, and we continued to write to each other, and naturally, we fell in love. 9 months later, I finally went home to Australia. I got a letter from him in the mail where he had written he loved me for the first time. We rang up huge phone bills talking every day on the phone. We sent at least a bajillion emails to each other. The sound of dial up internet holds a special place in my heart. 7.5 months later, I flew to Arizona and he proposed to me in front of Taco Bell. I said, YES! He was my second kiss. And I LOVED it. Simple can be super powerful. ;) Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

In the Spotlight: Artist Interview with Elisabeth Bell How did you start your art career? Did you always want to be an artist? Oh, ALWAYS. I think I was BORN with a pencil and sketch book in my hand! When I was little, I loved to read Disney Golden Books. Have you read the classic, The Big Golden Book of Cinderella, that was published in the 1950s? It was my absolute favorite. I would sit for what seemed like hours drawing her pretty dresses. My Dad believed in my talent, and when I was 16 years old, every day after school he took me to extra-curricular art classes to further my creative finesse. After I graduated from high school, I applied for the Bachelor of Visual Arts in Animation degree course at the Queensland College of Art, in Brisbane, Australia, the only degree course in Animation offered in the entire Southern Hemisphere. There were hundreds of entrants each year, and no more than 25 were chosen. When I read my name in the newspaper on the day the successful entrants were announced, it was the beginning of something big for me. But I believe my art career started a long time before I scribbled my first drawing in my wee years of kinder-hood. I truly feel that being an artist is my personal calling, among other things such as Motherhood. So have I always wanted to be an artist? The answer to that is simple: Yes. It is an answer that will forever be profound to me, as it is the basis of Who I am. I will always be thankful to my Dad for his eternal belief in me. How did you become a rubber stamp artist? What do you love most about illustrating rubber stamps? In 2008, I was contacted by a rubber stamp company from the UK. They had seen my portfolio online, and they liked my earlier images. Little did I know at the time how this contact would effect my creative career. These past few years have been an inspiring journey, filled with adventure and lots, and lots of positive learning. When Denise, my lovely friend and owner of Whimsy Stamps, and I began our communications in 2011 to begin working together, it was a HUGE honor to get to know her, and to begin yet another incredible journey with this prominent and growing rubber stamp company that we all know and love. Doing what I do is the type of life many artists dream of, and I have the exceptional blessing of living it. Granted, it's not always easy, especially with young children and juggling school, housework, errands and a home to run and keep "glued" together. My secret weapon is my dearest husband. Not only is he handsome and good at just about everything, he is downright AWEsome! He is my Right Hand Man, and Partner in Everything. It is because of him that I am able to do what I do and find joy in each of my callings. Among the many things that I love about illustrating rubber stamp designs is the freedom - the freedom to express myself as a Creative in designing images that help to bring joy to others, and the freedom to run my business from my own home around my family. The ability to meet and to work with countless amazing people over the past number of years in this industry is a fantastic privilege that I continue to experience each week. Being able to do what I love from the comfort of my own home around my family, being able to set my own schedule so that I still have time for those who I hold dear, is a profound blessing that I do not take lightly. Having the ability to help make a living through my art to bless my loved ones is something I hold sacred. To be an artist in this technological day and era is a massive blessing, and I owe it to the people I work with, my loved ones, including those who love my work, who make all this possible. What is your absolute favorite of the Whimsy Stamps that you've illustrated? Oh man, I love them all! To choose an absolute favorite is - tough! I'd venture to say, Ginger Meadows, and April Sunshine. Wait. And Li’l Sweet Tweeter. AND Li’l Montana. ACK! I'm at an impasse LOL. What inspires you? Definitely my kidlets! Gardens brimming with flowers. Sunshine. All things Shabby Country. Dark chocolate. I love to draw and edit with inspirational music blasting from my iMac whenever I'm in my art studio. My fave type of music to listen to while drawing and editing are movie soundtracks. I remember listening to E. S. Posthumus and the Tron soundtrack EVERY day for at least one month straight! If you weren't an artist, what do you think you would like to do for a career? Humm. I don't know if I'd have a career that wasn't anything creatively related. If I wasn't an Illustrator, I'd probably (most definitely) be an Animator. Or certainly an Interior Designer. I don't think I'd make a very good Lawyer lol! What is the one tool/supply you can't live without? Just like trying to decide which is my fave design I've illustrated for Whimsy, there are a few supplies I simply can't live without. These are my top 3: Adobe Photoshop, my scanner and Wacom tablet. They all go hand-in-hand. Soon, my can't-dowithout tool will include the Cintiq 21UX. It's a sweet technological tool that simplifies and enhances one's ability to create art. Oh, sweet simplicity. Now THAT is the stuff creative dreams are made of! ;) © Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

Step 1: Print out a number. I Googled number one clipart. Print the number at approximately 6 inches either wide or tall depending on the number. Cut out the shape and then place it on top of designer paper and cute the shape out again. © Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

Step 2: Sponge the edges. I used Tim Holtz Wild Honey Distress Ink.
July 2012, Issue 9
Tips & Tutorials: Number Shaped Card Step 3: Glue the cut out to the solid cardstock and cut out leaving an 1/8 inch border. For mine it was a filp over card if you would like it to open like a regular card. Fold the piece of Cardstock in half. Place your number on the fold. Cut out the sides being sure not to cut at the top of the number along the fold. Step 4: Cut out three triangle shapes out of various matching deisgner papers and punch a hole in either side of the top edge of all three and sponge the sides.

Step 5: Run your twine through the three pieces. Now, simply stamp out, colour your stamp and embellish as desired.

Tips & Tutorials: Make it Crafty Chipboard
Copic markers don't blend quite as well as usual on chipboard but if a layer of light ink is used as a base coat and the colors are built up from light to dark, the chipboard will allow the color to become very visible. The chipboard looks very realistic when applying the soft muted colors of alcohol ink to them. I colored in the stem first from light to dark using the following: E35,E37,E29
Because the paper had a hue of yellow, I chose to add these yellows to some of the small buds on the chip board. Copics used: YG01, YG95
I coated the flower blossoms with lightest color first, then from the center outward with the tip only in flicking swipes I add the medium color then in shorter less seldom flicks with the darkest tone. Copics used: BG000,BG23,BG75

Tips & Tutorials: Make it Crafty Chipboard
After the chips designs are cut from the plate of laser cuts, I realized that the plate itself is really gorgeous. As I was appreciating them, my creative juices started flowing. I decided to cut outside 1/8 inch all the way around a few designs and used them as a stencil template. Water coloring now with distress ink and two different templates, I started with Vintage Photo then Faded Jeans for the blossoms. It worked wonderfully! The inside design is a perfect match for the chipboard, of course, and adds a personal touch to the inside of the project without adding bulk!
These are some of the little extra pieces

Place the chipboard “stencil” where you want it and tape down Water color with thin paintbrush
I placed a different stencil into the center and continued to paint with water distress, first the Vintage Photo then the Faded Jeans colors © Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine

Quick Tip by Iris Wiechmann If you are like me than you have hundreds of flowers in all kinds of colors and shades, but sometimes you just can't find the perfect flower for your project! How frustrating! This is when these plain white or off-white paper flowers come in quite handy. Just make them match your project using your Copics and other embellishments.
What you’ll need: - white paper flowers - Copics in different colors - embellishments for flowers (e.g. stamens, brad, glitter, matching colored flowers etc.)
1 Step 1: For my flower I chose shades from the RV60's color range and RV10 and RV00 as my lightest colors.
Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine
2 Step 2: I start by adding a circle in the center of the flower using RV63
55
July 2012, Issue 9
Tips & Tutorials: Colored Flowers
3 Step 3: Then I take my next darker color, RV66, adding some shades to the center
4 Step 4: Back to my lighter color RV63, I try to blend it slightly. These paper flowers are soaking up the ink form the markers pretty quick so just add the color very light handed!
5
6
Step 5: Using RV00 or RV10 I try to blend even more and soften the outer edge of my color circle.
Step 6: Add some tiny dots with the darkest color RV69. Go all over your colored center and spread out towards the petals. You can also use the darkest shade in the very center of the flower to add some more dimension.
7 Add stamens, pearls, brads, glitter etc. to finish your flower. Step 7: Using the colorless blender you can soften some of the dots or make them lighter. Š Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine
