Greetings! So, you’ve decided to celebrate your nuptials in Whistler. Or maybe you haven’t and are reading this edition of Wishes just to get a better idea what to expect should you decide to say “I do!” in our lovely little corner of the world. Either way, welcome! For the past several years, we’ve been publishing a wedding guide to our region. Previous editions of this magazine, published under various titles, focused on the “wheres,” “how-tos” and “whom to calls.” For Wishes, we decided to include some of that, but with greater emphasis on the visual element. Within these pages, therefore, you’ll find more and larger photographs of what’s available to couples looking to celebrate in Whistler. We hope you enjoy the change, but more importantly, we hope you get maximum memories and enjoyment from your very special time in Whistler.

wedding venues

If you can dream it, Whistler can deliver By Kelly Oswald It’s a nice day for a white wedding… but if the white doesn’t work and you need to wear jeans, a ski suit, a parachute, a bathing suit — or even wearing nothing at all — you may be getting married in Whistler, B.C. Imagine a wedding party being taken by helicopter to the peak of a mountain on a beautiful summer day — or into the middle of winter complete with four feet of fresh powder. Picture the bride and groom arriving in a horse-drawn carriage — beautiful horses, their breath steaming in the cold, clear air as they prance through the snow to a warming hut. Or imagine a spring wedding on the dock at Green Lake, birds calling, water gently lapping up on shore amid a backdrop of magnificent mountains. Picture a ceremony in the woods, with the sun streaming through the trees, butterflies and squirrels appearing as unexpected guests. The ideas to create a fantastic, memorable wedding day in Whistler are endless — from “civilized adventures” such as a ceremony on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola or at the Roundhouse, to “extreme adventures” which may include a parachute or snowshoes! Seal and Heidi Klum were engaged in an igloo on Whistler Mountain — so the energy has been primed. The couple, who reaffirm their vows annually, got a jump start in the romantic unlimited possibilities of Whistler. It doesn’t get more diverse than this. Winter weddings reflect deep commitment. They offer the essence of lifelong passion and the desire to share our innermost selves. The pure wonder of falling snow coupled with spectacular scenery creates the perfect opportunity for a ceremony touched by the excitement of real adventure. How extreme you want that adventure to be is up to you. Anything and everything goes: dogsleds, slope-side ski/board, cat skiing, helicopter rides, horse-drawn carriages, roaring fires and cozy, grand hotels. Spring weddings imply new beginnings and a sense of renewal. They encourage personal growth and teamwork, union and infinite opportunity. ATV adventure weddings in the spring

The height of luxury, just steps from the base of Whistler Mountain. Nestled in Whistler’s Creekside, on the quiet shores of Nita Lake, is a place of peace and tranquility, where the rest of the world seems so far away. Breathe in the fresh alpine air, listen to the whispers of nature and clear your mind as you reflect on the serenity and elegance of Nita Lake Lodge. The unique character of Nita Lake along with a number of exceptional amenities and services, make Nita Lake Lodge an unforgettable experience.

ADVERTISERS:

have the add-on of being among the local bear community — bears represent gentle strength, intuition, nurturing and protective energy, perfect symbolism for lifelong commitment. Treetop weddings in the spring are also fantastic — in part because the foliage growth is new and the greens are intensely vibrant, so your photos are amazing! A summertime wedding is a dedication to abundance and fulfillment. Exchanging vows at one of Whistler’s pristine lakes on a dock, in a canoe or at any of Whistler’s beaches wins the prize for the best idea for a summer wedding. Paddling down the River of Golden Dreams (formerly named the River of Golden Dream and Romance) or tying kayaks together in the middle of the relatively private Nita Lake give a level of low-risk adventure and a fabulous experience. “I do” after bungee jumping may be a strange way to jump into a relationship — but it’s exhilarating and definitely unique. Fall weddings inspire unlimited possibilities at a practical and intensely romantic level. The leaves are changing, the waterfalls are spectacular and the mountain air is incredibly clean and fresh. Singing bowls in the forest and small ceremonies in the woods are incredibly spiritual and grounded in West Coast tradition. Add a First Nations drum ceremony to bring your intentions to vibrant life and to solidify your vows. Nairn Falls is fairly easy to get to and is absolutely spectacular, and there are accessible places along the Cheakamus River that work well for small weddings with able-bodied guests. Ultimately, there is nothing quite like the peak of Whistler Mountain for taking your breath away. Formal arrangements can be made to have the wedding and reception at the Roundhouse Lodge or the ceremony on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, but the most breathtaking views are one step further — at the top of the Peak Chair. No matter where you choose to have your wedding and ceremony, a trip to the top of the Peak Chair is a must. Missing the experience would be equivalent to missing the Eiffel Tower while in Paris, or the pyramids while in Egypt. The peak of Whistler boasts 360-degree views of spectacular mountain ranges that go on infinitely, the Black Tusk cinder cone pushing toward the sky and ancient glaciers showing off their majesty. Any couple will feel a sense of eternity and awe. As Walt Disney stated “If you can dream it, you can do it”! Whatever inspires you is possible and Whistler’s ministers and marriage commissioners are willing and able to make your dreams come true. It’s a nice day for a white wedding… and that’s true any day in Whistler.

BOUDOIR

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Story & photo by Anastasia Chomlak www.anastasiaphotography.ca Engagement party: check. Wedding shower: check. Gift registry: check. Rehearsal dinner: check. Boudoir photo session: hmmm... Boudoir photography is becoming more and more popular. Today’s bride-to-be is often being asked if she will be adding these photos to her “to do” list. With the right photographer, today’s boudoir has more in common with the kind of shots you’re used to seeing in top fashion magazines and lingerie ads. Gone are the days of “glamour” photography that was noteworthy mainly for awkward poses, cheesy “bedroom eyes,” and soft focus. The end result of this new genre of photography is that it makes a truly one-of-a-kind gift for your husband-to-be, whether it’s a secret for the wedding night or a first anniversary gift. This will be his favourite gift ever! As a photographer, my absolute favourite part about the boudoir photos is the “you” part. As in all my photography, I am interested in capturing real beauty, your true beauty. Time and time again we have women leave the boudoir photo session feeling empowered, secure and completely and totally beautiful. It is an empowering experience with the added benefit of having a very happy husband-to-be, once he views the images. I know that the general assumption for boudoir photography is that you have to be super thin and fit, or have some scrumptious, sexy body to do this. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s the photographer’s job to accentuate your best features! Plus, even if you don’t think you’re sexy, your fiancé thinks you’re perfect.

Q: Where does the photo session take place? A: Comfort and privacy are the key elements with these photos. Often, girls get a room at a nice hotel and we shoot there, but your own bedroom, a private outside area — all are great options. Q: What should I wear? A: Some of my most favorite images have been women in boy brief underwear and oversized sweaters. Often women opt for tasteful lingerie, or use the bed sheets for wraps. It’s best to bring a wide variety of different outfits, and shoes... your photographer will help you choose. Q: What does it cost? A: Cost varies considerably — do a little investigating before you commit to a vision of what you want. If you can add a private session onto your wedding package, you may be able to get a better deal than if you go with a different wedding photographer. Q: How long does it take? A. Your boudoir photo session will probably last about three hours. It takes time for hair and makeup, plus the additional lighting setup. It may also take you a little while to relax. Q: How will I know what to do? A: It helps if you have an idea of what you want as an end result, so it’s a great idea to browse through some magazines and bring some favourites for both posing and wardrobe. As the shoot progresses, you will feel more comfortable and able to try different things on your own, but it helps if you have something to start with. Q: Do I have to shoot nude? A: Absolutely not! Many modern and professional photographers believe that the illusion of being nude is more often provocative than actually seeing someone naked. During the session, you can decide what you are comfortable/not comfortable showing. Q: Privacy? Are you going to post photos of me on your blog? I don’t want anyone to see them! A: No, of course, not without your permission! You are in full control of your images.... where they go and who sees them! Wishes 2010

ROMANTIC

spring When asked, “Why Whistler?” the answer was simple for the couple. “We chose Whistler because it was where we fell in love and it’s always been a special place for both of us. Pete’s family has had a place up there for several years and the dock by their new house was just what we envisioned for the ceremony.” 145 guests joined Pete and Haley on a brisk June day, and when asked about a memorable moment Haley’s response was “I think my favourite “Whistler” moment was definitely the ceremony. It was chilly! But it was perfect! I loved the readings we chose and I thought the natural scenery was just so beautiful. Can’t find a backdrop like that anywhere else.” Haley took on the planning for the entire event, hiring a coordinator to handle the day of elements and floral. Of creating the perfect day, Haley spent endless hours browsing wedding websites and design blogs... “definitely my favourite part of the planning process...the creative details! The planning process on a whole was pretty relaxed.” A tip for couples planning their nuptials in Whistler is to not get hung up on the weather when you wake up on your wedding day. It was raining cats and dogs in the morning and it was sunny by the time lunch rolled around. Whistler weather will always keep you guessing! - Roxanne Cave 10

Same-sex marriage is still a topic of discussion and controversy in many countries, as court rulings striking down existing laws, or validating them, emerge on an almost weekly basis. In 2001, The Netherlands became the world’s first country to legally recognize the marriage of a man and a man or a woman and a woman. Belgium followed suit (so to speak) in 2003, while Spain and Canada (2005) came after. Since then countries such as South Africa (2006), Nepal and Norway (2008) have legalized them as well. Within Canada, Ontario became the first province to legalize same-sex marriages on June 10, 2003, when the Ontario Court of Appeal upheld a lower court ruling striking down the traditional definition of marriage as unconstitutional under Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. British Columbia became the second province to legalize such

marriages on July 8, 2003. The two provinces’ actions eventually paved the way for Bill C-38, the Civil Marriage Act. On July 20, 2005, Canada became the fourth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriages. Whistler hosted its first two same-sex weddings on July 21, 2003. That’s when a coin flip was used to determine the order of two ceremonies to be performed by local Marriage Commissioner Louise Zinsli. Kirt Beck and Roger Crandy of Alaska had the honour of being the first gay or lesbian couple legally married in Whistler, followed moments later by Gary Gardner and Tony Gilkinson from Washington State. Since then, Whistler and the Sea to Sky corridor have welcomed dozens of gay and lesbian couples who came here to celebrate their nuptials. The area, in fact, continues to be one of the most friendly and welcoming destinations in the world for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) travellers.

Planning to drink in your

Lifelong memories

Story by Roxanne Cave Photo by mikecranephotography.com When asked to write about what a planner does, how the role has evolved and how he or she can make life (and planning such a momentous event) easier for the destination client, I had to really think hard about what exactly I should record — not because I couldn’t think of anything; on the contrary, there are just so many elements that I knew there could never be enough room to include it all. While we still calm nerves, set the flower girl at ease, time the ceremony, cue the musicians, fluff the dress, and instruct the attendants on the “right way to walk the aisle” (cue YouTube’s most-watched aisle walk), the bridal consultant has evolved into a highly respected special event planner who can handle every last detail of your celebration. Week-long and weekend destination weddings o f t e n i n corporate far more individual elements than just the wedding ceremony, reception and dinner. From booking activities that can include spa treatments, tee times, yoga, shopping, brunches, rehearsal dinners, restaurant reservations and guest accommodation, to winter heli-ski tours and summer whitewater rafting, a planner becomes a personal concierge, tourism consultant, special event producer and Zen master all in one. In addition, the level of creative production for the average wedding has evolved

and grown, some of it to mind-boggling customization. A great example of the evolution of the destination wedding planner is the Heather McPherson article in the Spring 2009 issue of Elegant Bride, which focused on being a “guest at your own wedding.” It was then that I realized just how much the planner’s role had grown and the couples’ priorities had evolved when planning their nuptials. While some still plan and take care of the many frazzling details for their big day, more often we see couples hand over the reins to a trusted planner. Couples are busy building careers and living their lives, and often don’t have the time to research, plan and manage. Rather, they collaborate with experienced planners who stay current and flexible to provide a unique range of options that ensure the couples’ vision is realized. In these cases, couples are more inclined to sit back and enjoy the precious time they have with their friends and families. While a planner may save you money, the biggest savings is in worry and stress. In fact, the goal of every couple should always be to relax, “drink it all in,” have fun and savour this very special time. When bringing family and friends to an amazing location like Whistler, there is nothing better the happy couple could do than to enjoy the place and the moment and create wonderful memories that last a lifetime. And that, I guess, really sums up what a planner does.

gadbois photography Gadbois Photography is a leader in premiere wedding and destination photography. This boutique style company specializes in creating an unforgettable experience through unique image artistry for their clientele.

Having first chosen Ecuador as the destination for their 2009 wedding, largely due to the fact that the majority of their family and friends were living there, Carla and Pablo changed their minds shortly after moving to Whistler, “It was the perfect opportunity to share with our guests the beauty of Whistler” says Carla. Of the 76 guests in attendance 60 flew in from out of town and, as most guests arrived for a few days, they were able to spend time enjoying the various activities Whistler offers and enjoying the lush surroundings of Nita Lake Lodge – their ‘home base’. Carla wore a beautiful custom made gown from famed Canadian designer Manuel Mendoza, which was perfectly fitting for their outdoor wedding at Lost Lake Park. Set under a canopy of vibrant fabric and surrounded by some of the 1,500 Ecuadorian roses which had been flown in as a wedding gift especially for the occasion by a very close friend. It is said that, to grow the perfect rose, you must have a particular combination of temperature, altitude and soil condition. Ecuador is known for this “ideal” environment and is, therefore, renowned for growing the most beautiful roses in the world. Being a couple who were born and raised in Ecuador, it was very important for Carla and Pablo to celebrate their special day with Ecuadorian roses of all colors and varieties. Most weddings are unforgettable to the bride and groom, but not necessarily to their guests.”Our favourite part about our wedding ....knowing that our wedding week was just as unforgettable for them... as it was for us.” - Roxanne Cave

achieving just the right

Story by Brigitte Mah & Photo by m7p.ca Let’s face it: Getting married is stressful, and with all that goes on, the last thing any bride or groom wants to go wrong is his or her appearance. For many, the preparation for how you will look on your wedding day begins months in advance, with the critical choice of a wedding dress. But it doesn’t end there. Hair, makeup, and nails follow shortly after — and no wedding preparation is complete without a trip to the spa. Many of Whistler’s spas offer pre-wedding packages, and a common way to ease the tension often involved with planning a wedding is to escape with a couple’s massage. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler, the Four Seasons and Solarice and others all offer couples’ massages in a private room, and will personalize the experience for both you and your significant other. The Hilton Resort and Spa offers an Indonesian-inspired pre-wedding package called Asmaraga Raras Pangantyan, where Indonesian therapists use a variety of Javanese techniques to relax the bride- or groom-to-be. Vida Spa at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler also offers a range of specialized services for brides, grooms and their entourage who have spent months helping them prepare for their big day. Ladies can be rejuvenated from all their weeks of work with a Bridal Party Renewal package that includes a Swedana steam treatment and a facial, while the bride can get pampered with a massage, a body exfoliation and both a manicure and a pedicure. Relaxing isn’t just for the ladies, either. Many of the spas are happy to accommodate men, and for those in need of a senses-awakening experience after the bachelor party, Vida Spa offers a Post Bachelor Party Fix, which includes a sports massage and a hot towel facial. The groom can take a few hours to also

pamper himself with a Groom’s Grooming, which includes a hot towel facial, and a pedicure and manicure. While being relaxed is certainly a large component of preparing for the big day, hair, nails and makeup are essential in creating that dream look for the perfect moment. For brides who are looking to celebrate and be pampered with their bridal party in a more energy-infused environment, Get Nailed will host a bridal party for up to 30 ladies, and will offer pedicure and manicure services in an upbeat, open environment.

Almost all of the hair salons in Whistler will do up-dos for weddings. It’s a good idea to schedule a practice appointment to ensure that your vision comes to life. Make sure you bring several pictures of what you’re looking for, and, if possible, have your veil handy, too. Don’t be afraid to ask if the hairdresser will come to your hotel. Good Hair Day will come to wherever you are, and will also do your makeup. Whatever service you choose, just remember to book several months in advance. Summer in Whistler is a popular wedding season, and spaces — for all possibilities — book quickly.

Story by Megan Grittani-Livingston Photo by Anastasia Chomlack Hosting a wedding or taking a honeymoon in Whistler opens an unmatchable world of scenic, exciting and romantic possibilities for lovebirds and their guests. Skiing, sightseeing, snowshoeing; biking, hiking, swimming; paddling, golfing, soaring, exploring — no matter what you and your guests fancy, Whistler’s got you covered. Whistler boasts a bustling pedestrian village filled with shops, restaurants and entertainment options, nestled below Whistler and Blackcomb mountains and all the alpine pleasures they have to offer. With more than 8,100 acres of skiable terrain and runs up to 11 kilometres (6.5 miles) long, it’s easy to see why Whistler Blackcomb was chosen as the No. 1 resort by Skiing Magazine — for the 13th year in a row — and Freeskier Magazine in 2009. Winter wedding guests shouldn’t hesitate to hit the slopes, where they’re sure to fall in love with the pulse-pounding runs and breathtaking views. The on-snow fun continues far below the peaks, with plenty of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing adventures available around Whistler. The Lost Lake Park trails offer something for skiers of every level in the peaceful, forested environment at the edge of the Village, while Whistler Olympic Park and Callaghan Country will have more than 70 kilometres of ski trails and more than 10 kilometres of snowshoe trails open over the winter in the Callaghan Valley, working around the Olympic hoopla. For those who want to explore, tour operators such as Canadian All-Terrain Adventures offer snowmobile, dogsled and snowcat expeditions around the mountains and the Callaghan backcountry for families and thrill-seekers alike, with some offerings coming complete with delicious fondue served at the Crystal Hut at an elevation of 1,800 metres (6,000 feet) on Blackcomb Mountain. In summer, ATV and Jeep tours with delectable meals make for great group outings. Summertime wedding guests will find so much to enjoy in Whistler. As a world-class mountain biking destination, Whistler offers everything from easily accessible trails such as the paved Valley Trail and the initial phase of the growing Sea to Sky Trail, to some of the most spectacular singletrack trails around. Guests can grab their bikes or rent some from Whistler’s many quality bike shops and enjoy everything from leisurely pedals to powerhouse rides.

There are also walking and hiking trails aplenty, beginning with the scenic Lost Lake trails near the Village and spreading out through the spectacular surroundings. Swimming in Whistler’s beautiful lakes is another popular option, with plenty of stunning parks ready and waiting to accommodate lakeside loungers and swimmers alike. Canoe and kayak rental operators offer enjoyable group outings, while the whitewater rafting and jet boat tours available add a few more thrills and chills for anyone looking to paddle in Whistler. Looking to hit the links? Three world-class and spectacularly scenic golf courses – the Whistler Golf Club, Nicklaus North Golf Course and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club — are all here. South of Squamish is Furry Creek Golf & Country Club. Their gorgeous setting on the shores of Howe Sound will dazzle. Just half an hour up the road from Whistler, Pemberton’s Big Sky Golf and Country Club and the Meadows at Pemberton offer beautiful courses in the shadow of majestic Mount Currie. For guests who want to experience Whistler’s forest environments in a completely different way, Ziptrek Ecotours and WildPlay Whistler have a lot to offer. Ziptrek’s zipline tours are truly thrilling, with 10 different lines providing a range of breathtaking experiences, while their guides are experts at both calming nerves and teaching guests about the ecosystem. And Ziptrek’s TreeTrek Tours offer spectacular forest views from treetop platforms, suspension bridges and boardwalks. The WildPlay Element Park at Whistler’s Cougar Mountain is another great group destination for aerial adventures, offering five exhilarating ziplines and an exciting Tree Course to delight and challenge guests. The Tree Course is an elevated — and secure — obstacle course set 10 to 60 feet high in the beautiful forest setting, with elements scattered throughout to entertain and test guests of all ages and ranges of abilities. Wedding guests can enjoy other aerial perspectives on the spectacular surroundings through operators such as Interior Helicopters or Blackcomb Aviation, which offers everything from sightseeing flights to glacier and alpine walks and heli-golfing adventures. Happy honeymooners can try all of these activities and more, plus they can do it in romantic style: Whistler hotels such as the Four Seasons Resort and the Hilton Whistler Resort and Spa will arrange a wide variety of special outings for newlyweds, ranging from private meals and picnics to couples’ sleigh rides and canoe trips, and the Fairmont Chateau Whistler has a “platinum honeymoon program” to help coordinate romantic plans. aspect PHOTOGRAPHY Using a combination of creative vision and natural inspiration, Matt records the everyday world in a unique and beautiful way. On your wedding day, he captures each important moment with care and creativity, giving you a beautiful tribute to your commitment.

For Carly and Nigel the natural beauty of the mountains, parks and lakes combined with the fun atmosphere made Whistler the perfect place for their weekend celebrations. As the resort destination is a mere two hours from home the couple felt that everyone could spend the weekend – take a mini-holiday (or mega holiday for the out of towners) and they also loved that it provided them with the opportunity to spend time with their guests. After the ceremony rehearsal, Carly and Nigel joined their guests at the Brewhouse, one of Whistler’s local pubs for a casual rehearsal dinner and get together. The couple exchanged vows surrounded by friends and family at an outdoor ceremony in one of Whistler’s parks, then took the short walk back to Nita Lake Lodge to enjoy lakefront cocktails followed by dinner and dancing. Of hiring a planner to assist with the process the couple explains, “Planning was fun because it was a good excuse to take a few weekends away in Whistler! What we loved about having a planner is we could be involved in the big picture, and the smaller details we wanted to be involved in (ie. food/wine tasting!) but didn’t have to worry about all the intricate details. To be honest when we got engaged we were overwhelmed with the prospect of planning a wedding, it is daunting. But having a planner that can help you formulate a vision of your day and actually achieve it...definitely the way to go!” - Roxanne Cave

tips PHOTOGRAPHY

By Tim and Karen Tallevi www.peekphotography.ca

As if you don’t have enough to think about already! We’re going to add a few things that hopefully will save you stress on your big day and help you get the most out of your photography investment. After all, when it’s all finished, your memories and your photos will be what you will share for the rest of your life. Ask any professional wedding photographer what he or she would like to have more of at a wedding and the answer will invariably be time. Time flies! Proper planning in the beginning can help avoid problems before they have a chance to cause stress. Having a wedding planner is one of the best ways to make sure all the details are taken care of and the day goes smoothly. A professional wedding photographer is another great resource when you are planning your day. Photographers love to be involved very early in the planning stages. Based on the types of shots you’re looking for, we can tell you how much time we will need. Having this information early on will help you plan your timeline. Here are a few things to think about: • Limit the number of different locations. We love variety and love to shoot in multiple locations, but the reality is that travel takes up a lot of valuable time. Having pre-arranged drivers and parking will help maximize the time spent shooting if you are changing locations. • Allow time to eat, chat and relax. This is so often overlooked. It’s common for a couple to realize they are starving after the nerves and adrenaline of the ceremony have worn off and they still need to get through all the photos. • Make a list of those must-have family shots. It’s a lot easier to think of these beforehand than on the spot. Keep in mind that we probably don’t know any of your guests, so the more help we can have organizing the groupings, the better. It generally takes about three to five minutes per group shot, so consider this when you are thinking of all the possible combinations you would like to include. Remember that even the best plans go awry. Build in a little “cushion” to the timeline. If things are going well, that’s great because we get a little extra shooting time or you get a few extra minutes to relax. If things are running a little late, it’s no problem and there’s no stress because extra time has been built in to the schedule for the day.

The Look

Love of your

Discover Wedding Branding Story by Kyla Getty www.gettcreative.com Have you been dreaming of a wedding that reflects the “personality” that is unique to your relationship? Do you want to create a gorgeous wedding setting that will have your guests delighting in the details? Perhaps you have creative ideas but need help in “marrying” them into a concept or maybe you are less than creatively inclined and hoping for a wedding visionary... an inspired “Fairy Godmother”... if you will. If your answer to any of these questions is a resounding “I DO!”, you have found the path to the unique wedding of your dreams – Wedding Branding. In today’s world of marketing and sales, branding is the hottest topic for discussion on the boardroom table. When asked to recall some of your favourite brands you may immediately think of Ipod and the oh-so-invigorating Starbucks. These companies are some of the best examples of strong, identifiable brands. Why are they our favourites? Not just because we like their pretty logos, but because we love their products and most of all, the essence of what they stand for. Well, the good news is, I am willing to bet that the guests at your wedding already love you and what you both stand for. The task at hand when defining your wedding’s “Brand”, is to clarify what it is that makes your love unique and design a visual theme that will run through every aspect of your wedding – including a wedding “Logo”! Your wedding brand may be simple and elegant – a custom-designed monogram & designer colour pallet appearing on chic menus, coasters and thank you gifts to the guests. Perhaps you wish to recreate your first date, serving personal sized portions of popcorn, beverages served in branded paper soft drink cups, thank you notes personally scribed onto matching napkins and invitations designed as movie ticket stubs. Fancy or fanciful, your wedding’s brand is an expression of your unique love story!

Things to consider UNIQUENESS What is unique about you and your fiance? Is it how you met, special beliefs, activities you do together? What is the essence of your life together? VISION What do you want your wedding to be remembered for? GUESTS Your wedding is a celebration of YOUR love, but your guests are an important part of the day. Honour them by creating an experience to remember. They will appreciate the thoughtful details that add to their comfort & enjoyment. Often, it is the small touches that don’t cost much money that they appreciate the most. For example: for outdoor weddings, create personal fans out of popsicle sticks, ribbon and colour coordinated craft paper. The guests will appreciate the thoughtful touch. These fans are a great medium to display your brand logo or monogram, or a personal poem or note of thanks. MESSAGE & MISSION Companies have Mission Statements. Creating a mission statement for you charts a course and helps you maintain your core values and objectives while planning when things may otherwise seem hectic. Missions may include: fun for all ages, thoughtful details, creative ideas on a budget, a unique theme, look and feel. 28

WINTER

tallevi studios Combine a lifelong passion for photographing people and the technical expertise of a professionally trained commercial photographer and the result is a duo who brings a unique perspective to every wedding. Tallevi Studios: two photographers, two perspectives, one vision!

The more time Rob and Shannon spent in Whistler as their love grew, the closer they came to making Whistler their natural first choice for an absolutely beautiful winter wonderland wedding. Shannon carried a stunning white feather bouquet made by her mother, which perfectly complemented her gorgeous sparkling pale pink silk Angolique gown, while Rob sported an eye catching boutonniere of peacock feathers and rhinestones. 125 guests, many of whom stayed the entire weekend and some for just a night, celebrated with Rob and Shannon as they exchanged vows in front of the Whistler conference centre’s stunning 40 foot rumford fireplace. While the room was being transformed the wedding party enjoyed a blissful horse drawn sleigh ride, after which photographers Tim and Karen Tallevi set up a ‘fashion shoot’ and captured some amazing evening shots in the heart of the village. Dueling pianos, a choreographed ‘dirty dancing’ number, along with a goofy and wildly successful photo booth, completed the perfect evening. When asked for one tip to planning a Whistler wedding, the answer was to set up a website. There are just so many things you can share with your guests, which will really make the experience so much better for those who are travelling; from offering activity information, hotels, babysitting services to the finer details of the time spent together, this was certainly one of the best things the couple did for their guests. - Roxanne Cave
