Centennial serves up breakfast to legislators The Centennial School District will host a Legislative Breakfast Wednesday, Jan. 17 in the district office. The annual event serves as an opportunity for representatives of the district to ask questions of the legislators and identify areas of concern and priorities to focus on.
It can all be gone in an instant. A single dad of five is trying to pick up the pieces after he and his family lost everything in a fire. “I pulled up right before the fire department arrived. I had a sinking pit in my stomach as soon as I turned down the street because the proximity looked like it was either my house or my neighbor’s house. I knew something was not good,” Lino Lakes resident Maisen Saxton recalled. “The bottom line is I’m thankful that everybody was safe. Not everybody is that fortunate … We are just trying to do best we can to pick up the pieces and keep in good spirits.” SEE LINO FIRE, PAGE 6

John Hanselman, owner of Edwin’s Edibles on Lake Drive, has been informed a generator on his property is not allowed per city code. He is hoping the city can help him to find a temporary solution until more power can be installed from Xcel Energy.
LINO LAKES — Business owner John Hanselman, who owns Edwin’s Edibles on Lake Drive, is hoping the city will work with him for a temporary solution until he can have more power installed on his property from Xcel Energy.
For the past year, Hanselman has been working on renovating the former HammerHeart Brewing into Edwin’s Edibles. He explained that his former electrician and contractor didn’t account for the proper power needs to operate the equipment. “They didn’t realize my power needs I needed to
have in the building,” he said. “Now I have to wait for Xcel Energy to bring me more power, and that process can take anywhere from three to nine months.” Hanselman said that in the meantime, he has been using a generator to power some of the equipment, but SEE EDWIN’S EDIBLES, PAGE 12
