LINO LAKES — Members of the Lino Lakes Planning and Zoning Board learned more about the proposed Mattamy Homes Watermark development and heard some concerns from residents who live near the future project. The public hearing, held April 13, addressed the planned unit development staging plan and preliminary plat for the 372acre project. The proposed development has been presented and reviewed several times by city staff, council and advisory boards over the past several years. Mattamy Homes representative Rick Packert first provided an overview of the project to the council in May 2014. The residential community will be located in the northwest quadrant of I-35E and County Road 14/Main Street in Lino Lakes. The property, comprised of 12 individual parcels of land, measures about 1 mile long and 1/2 mile wide. It is bordered by I-35E on the east and County Road 54/20th Avenue N. on the west. The development is proposed to contain 706 single-family homes and 165 townhome units for a total of 871 units. City Planner Katie Larsen gave a detailed presentation to the board on April 13 of what the development would entail and the plans that are underway. Some features include a 5-acre public park, a 5,000-square-foot recreational center for residents, two private parks and 2 miles of public trails. Open space makes up 39 percent of the

CIRCLE PINES — Five students on the Centennial High School speech team attended the state tournament Saturday, April 16 at Lakeville North High School. Participants included seniors Liz De Vere Hunt, Nathan Navratil and Adam Drabek, along

with sophomores Izzy Raleigh and Savanah VanHese. “This year's team is a combination of some good veterans with a large group of novice kids,” said speech coach Mark Quinlan. “It has been a rebuilding year; we had a very talented and experienced senior class graduate last year. Many of the veterans have done well and

a lot of the new kids have stepped forward too and started to learn what the activity is all about.” On average, Quinlan said, the team has around 60-70 students. This year's team has 60. The team attended eight invitational tournaments this season, not including the section tournament SEE CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL, PAGE 14
