Lino Lakes native begins meteorology career in Iowa

At the age of about 6, Danny Cassidy remembers watching an episode of “Dragon Tales” and wanting to learn more about weather.

“Their cloud machine was broken, and I thought it would be very cool to operate the machine myself,” Cassidy recalled. “After learning that in fact that is not how weather works, I still was very interested to learn more.”

Thrivent Financial team puts a stake in the ground in Quad community

It has been over 10 years since Ben Ollila and Mike Trudeau began their adventure in 2011 at the Thrivent firm in Lino Lakes. Since, the pair of consultants have started their own families while continuing to help others in the Quad community.

Ollila, 36, and Trudeau, 35, are definitely in different phases of their lives than they were a decade ago, however they have just recently reached what they say is their

“greatest milestone” in their career.

The Edgewater team will be relocating from their single conference room in the Rice Lake Professional Center to their own building in a neighborhood just 0.3 miles away on the corner of Hodgson Road and Blue Heron Drive.

The two say it was their best option to stay committed to the community.

“We could have ended up in a different community, but we wanted to stay here,” Trudeau said.

The two say they simply outgrew the space after expanding their finance team to three advisors and

one office staff while serving around 700 households. Financial Advisor Matthew Merrick is the newest addition to the team who originally started as an intern and has been with the team for seven years now.

The internship program is something the team hopes they can relaunch in the new building, as it is such a key element, they say, to continue to grow as a business.

Blaine resident receives President’s Volunteer Service Gold Award

Blaine resident Lt. Col. Mary Albright, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Gold Award for her work with the Anoka County Composite Squadron and Minnesota Wing, CAP, United States Air Force Auxiliary.

The award was created in 2003 to recognize the important role of volunteers throughout America.

It honors people whose service positively impacts communities throughout the nation and inspires others. The President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) has continued under each administration, honoring volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve the challenges facing our nation.

“I love my volunteer job,” said Albright, who serves in several roles within the CAP. “I do what I do to help our cadets, not to get a medal. It

certainly feels good to get recognized, but I truly enjoy working with our cadets who I view as our next world leaders.”

Albright has been a member of the CAP, the all-volunteer auxiliary to the United States Air Force, since 2010. For the majority of this time, she’s been the deputy commander for cadets at the Anoka County Composite Squadron and developed that cadet program to be the largest in Minnesota and the North Central Region, and one of the most successful nationwide.

Lt Col Albright is a four-time recipient of the Torch Award, an award given by the Wing Cadet of the Year to the person they feel most supported and inspired them. In 2021, Albright was appointed the Minnesota Wing Director of Cadet Programs, bringing her energy and

enthusiasm to a larger platform.

Outside of CAP, Albright works as a contract director of operations for small business. She is also the President of the Starbird Association, an independent nonprofit organization supporting STEM and aerospace education initiatives in Minnesota.

Albright says receiving the award is meaningful but does not compare to the joy she receives from working with cadets.

“I love the cadets in this program,” she says. “Helping them achieve their goals excites me and seeing their success is better than any medal.”

POLICE REPORTS The Lino Lakes Police Department reported the following incidents: • Officers assisted a neighboring agency with a vehicle that was wanted in connection with an investigation and was displaying a stolen license plate in the 1800 block of Quebec Street June 21.

• An officer dispatched to a request for a phone call regarding a civil issue in the 6900 block of Lake Drive June 21. The officer determined no law enforcement action could be taken and provided the caller with contact information for Anoka County Courts.

• An officer responded to a local roadway on a report of a driving complaint on Main Street and Lake Drive June 21. Officers searched for the vehicle in question and were unable to locate it.

• An officer was dispatched on a phone call regarding a dog bite in the 2000 block of Balsam Way. The officer documented the incident and the dog’s owner was cited for the offense.

• An officer responded to a local neighborhood on a report of suspicious juveniles in the 6400 block of Ware Road June 21.

• An officer responded to a local neighborhood for a driving complaint on 2nd Avenue and Smoketree Lane June 21. Extra patrol will be provided.

• An officer responded to a call about possible gunshots being heard in the 6500 block of White Oak Road June 21. The area was checked and nothing was found.

• An officer observed an occupied suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in the 2200 block of 70th Street June 22. The occupant was advised to find a more appropriate location to sleep.

• Officers were advised about an upset customer who may show up at a business in the 6800 block of Otter Lake Road June 22. Employees were advised to call if they need police assistance.

• An officer took a report of identity theft in the 400 block of Arrowhead Drive June 22. The complainant requested a case number for the bank.

• An officer responded to assist another agency with a report of an impaired driver on the roadway on Centerville Road and Birch Street June 23. The male driver was placed under arrest for DWI. • An officer responded to a noise complaint in the 7600 block of Behm Lane June 23. The involved parties were told to keep the noise down and drug paraphernalia was confiscated.

An officer and fire lieutenant responded to a residence for a complaint of a natural gas odor in the basement in the 7100 block of Snow Owl Circle June 26. The owner of the residence recently had a water heater installed and was advised to have the installing company return to repair a possible leak.

While on patrol, an officer found that a registered owner of a vehicle was driving after cancellation, inimical to public safety in the area of I-35W and Lake Drive June 27. The driver was arrested and sent to jail.

The Centennial Lakes Police Department reported the following incidents: • An officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Lake Drive and Village Parkway in Circle Pines June 22. One adult male was subsequently arrested and another adult female and adult male were cited.

• Police took a phone call report of a burglary that occurred in the 6900 block of Pheasant Lane in Centerville June 22.

• An officer stopped an adult male for a bicycle violation in the area of Lake Drive and Woodland Road in Lexington June 22. The male was ultimately arrested due to an outstanding warrant.

• Officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Road and Park Drive W in Circle Pines June 22 for a three-vehicle accident. A state accident report was completed.

• An officer initiated a traffic stop for traffic violations in the area of Centerville Road and Heritage Street in Centerville June 23. An adult male was subsequently arrested for DWI.

• An officer observed a traffic violation at the intersection of Lake Drive and Griggs Avenue in Lexington June 24. After an investigation, the adult female driver was arrested for third-degree DWI. • An officer visited a residence in the 20 block of East Road in Circle Pines June 24 to discuss a neighbor dispute that has been going on for quite some time.

• An officer handled a theft report in the 1800 block of Partridge Place in Centerville June 24.

• Police responded to the 100 block of Keith Road in Circle Pines June 24 on report of a power lineman who had been electrocuted.

• An officer was on patrol in the 9000 block of Griggs Avenue in Lexington June 25 when the officer noticed a gate appeared to have been tampered with. The officer completed a walk-thru and took photos. Extra patrol will be provided.

• Officers responded to the 10 block of West Golden Lake Road in Circle Pines June 25 on a delayed theft report.

• Police responded to a noise complaint in the 8800 block of Jackson Avenue in Lexington June 25.

• An officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Lake Drive and Albert Avenue in Lexington June 25 in which two adult females provided false information to the officer. Charges are pending.

• An officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Lake Drive and Albert Avenue in Lexington June 26. The male driver requested an ambulance and refused transport.

• Officers were dispatched to a theft in progress in the 3800 block of Restwood Road in Lexington June 26. The suspect involved is known by officers and the investigation continues.

• An officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of North Highway Drive and Lake Drive in Lexington June 26. The male driver was subsequently arrested for DWI. • An officer responded to a report of a gas drive-off in the 1900 block of Main Street in Centerville June 28. The unknown suspect(s) stole fuel from the gas station and left the station heading east.

Lino Lakes felon charged federally with Methamphetamine trafficking, firearms violations Jose Angel Chapa-Aguilera has been charged in a federal indictment with drug trafficking and firearms violations in connection to the December 2021 kidnapping and torture of a man.

According to state and federal court documents, Chapa-Aguilera, 24, of Lino Lakes, was in possession of quantities of methamphetamine and unlawfully possessed 9mm semi-automatic handguns on two different occasions.

In April 2021 Chapa-Aguilera used a false name during a traffic stop in Nobles County, which later resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine and a firearm from the vehicle he was driving near Worthington, Minnesota.

On Dec. 20, 2021, at a Brooklyn Park residence, Chapa-Aguilera allegedly confronted a man about a drug debt.

During the confrontation, ChapaAguilera pulled out a handgun and pointed it at a victim’s head. ChapaAguilera then ordered the victim to the ground and tied his hands behind his back and proceeded to beat and torture the victim for hours before barricading the victim in a crawlspace under the house. The victim was eventually able to escape once ChapaAguilera left the house. The victim suffered extensive injuries, including numerous burns, broken ribs, a large

laceration above his eye, and required a blood transfusion. Law enforcement seized methamphetamine from ChapaAguilera’s residence during a search warrant executed shortly thereafter. Law enforcement eventually captured ChapaAguilera on Jan. 7, 2022, and found him in possession of a firearm.

Chapa-Aguilera has also been charged in Hennepin County District Court with first-degree assault and kidnapping in connection with the December 2021 incident.

The federal indictment against ChapaAguilera charges him with two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, one count of brandishing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, and two counts of illegally possessing firearms as a felon. Because Chapa-Aguilera has a prior felony conviction in Anoka County for second degree assault he is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition at any time.

Chapa-Aguilera made his initial appearance June 28 in U.S. District Court before. He will remain in federal custody pending further court proceedings.

Inflation is hurting

I

T SEEMS TO be an unusual time in the economic history of the nation and perhaps to some degree for the world. I’ve been writing columns for decades and the current state of the economy seems in many ways uncontrolled.

Inflation is running higher than anytime in the past 40 years and recent interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve could soon push the economy into recession.

As most readers know, the high price of gas and diesel is one of the driving forces pushing up inflation.

The country runs on petroleum. Our refineries are running between 93-94% capacity and experts say it’s doubtful that production rate can be increased anytime soon. Further, oil companies have no desire to invest more or expand to government regulations. Going green makes a lot of sense for our climate, but you can’t do it overnight. It takes time, technological advancements, and consumer education. The way we are operating is putting undue financial pressure on the consumer.

Some studies indicate inflation is costing the average family with a home mortgage and one or two cars, including all household expenses, $350 more per month.

Where does that extra money come from? Savings accounts are not overflowing and the majority of American people are living paycheck to paycheck.

Wages are going up for many workers, but it’s not adequate to overcome the current inflation rate.

Some people are taking extra part-time jobs. Some people are going back into the work force. Others who haven’t been in the work force are starting.

In Minnesota, our Legislature could help out its citizens, but lawmakers can’t agree to use the budget surplus to refund and eliminate some taxes.

Do we have to wait for the next election to elect legislators to represent us? Maybe we need to remind them what we are going through and suggest some solutions.

After all, it’s our money!

Following the Covid pandemic, a number of businesses and industries were shut down and supplies ran short.

In many cases, the supply chains have yet to catch up.

Auto manufacturers continue to be plagued by a shortage of chips for automobiles. We have shortages in many other areas of technology that’s used in all aspects of our manufacturing.

If the economy enters a recession, which is likely, housing will be slowed and the recent increase in interest rates is already having an effect. Yes, we see a great deal of new construction of apartments and condos, but they are also going up with higher rents, which will make it more difficult for people to afford.

All this will force people to reevaluate their lifestyle, spending habits and find cost-saving methods.

Cutting waste, improving efficiencies, careful planning and budgeting will all be essential.

You can learn from others. For example, when seniors go to lunch they often take half of it home for dinner or lunch the next day.

Another way to put it- we may have to add more water to the soup and cream the peas for the toast. I remember that from my childhood.

We can be very thankful we have so many opportunities for public and private and continuing education. All of the teachers, athletic directors and administrative staff make this happen for our youth. It often takes teachers years to see results and they welcome that openly. I encourage everyone who has had a good educational experience to thank those involved.

Anoka County: Crosswalks and speed limits

started writing this column a couple weeks ago and was going to talk about taxes, and how we kept taxes DOWN, even though everything else around us is going UP in price. I mean after all, our certified levy in 2020, 2021 and 2022 for Anoka County, has not increased one dime. All three years have been the exact same amount. That is really something good to talk about … right?

But then I was driving home Thursday, June 23 and came upon the scene of an accident on Birch Street. A young girl was hit by a car when crossing Birch Street.

This news hit me hard since I raised three daughters and they were often riding their bikes on and around Birch Street as they Movers & grew up.

I can’t imagine the shock and Shakers heartache that the parents of this little girl are still going through Jeff Reinert as they tend to the needs of their daughter.

Thankfully the young girl is doing well in her recovery, but we can’t just move on. As your representative for all county roadways, I need to address the safety concerns. I have heard from many residents, and I want you all to know I am listening and reacting.

Birch Street is a County Road, I am your County Commissioner, I represent our area and serve on the Transportation Committee for Anoka County. It IS up to me to find out what can be done, and I will.

Going forward I will pull together a series of meetings with our county transportation team and the mayors and city councils in our Quad area to discuss over the next couple months how to jointly resolve the issues. We will discuss public crossing areas and speed limits not only on Birch Street, but the entire Quad area which also includes Centerville, Circle Pines and Lexington.

There are short-term and long-term solutions to all problems. Short term solutions are affordable and can be implemented quickly, long-term solutions may be better but need planned funding.

I am committed to finding the right solutions to address the safety concerns.

My entrance into running for public office was first triggered in 1999 when the county wanted to make Birch Street a four-lane highway.

Thankfully we won that battle, but we need to continue to advocate for safer roads.

A long-needed transportation improvement that you will see this summer includes Lake Drive. An overlay will take place beginning the week of Aug. 25 from 2nd Avenue to Park Court. The project is a simple overlay and not a full depth reclaim and pave. The reason for this is we plan to begin reconstructing all of Lake Drive in about five years. But I pushed for this section to be improved now because it has become too rough. A traffic study will follow construction to change the speed from 55mph to 50mph to improve safety.

The future Birch Street reconstruction project(s) in five years will address water and sanitary sewer infrastructure needs, storm sewer/drainage system improvements, pedestrian, and bicycle facility enhancements/ extensions/additions, turn lane additions, access improvement modifications and other associated roadway improvements.

The county has a vast resource for residents. And as your elected representative, it is my job to be your voice, and assist you when it comes to any matter regarding Anoka County.

Harvest, or Harvey as he is best known to his foster, is a high-energy pup with a wonderful and affectionate personality.

Harvey is very social; he loves all people and other animals.

He knows his basic commands and is eager and motivated to learn more.

Harvey is crate-trained and would excel wonderfully in a

consistent, predictable and routine environment. Harvey, a boxer/ American pit bull terrier mix, arrived at Ruff Start Rescue from a local pound and weighs 45 pounds.

He is about a year-and-a-half old and would do best in an active home with people who will entertain his energy and who will be patient with him as he learns to be the best boy he can be.

Growing up in a small town in central Minnesota, that’s not something I ever thought I’d do. Like you, I’ve watched growing polarization divide our state and our nation. At the same time, I’ve been inspired by the underlying Minnesota values of hard work, lending a hand to a neighbor in need and working together towards common goals — values that defined us as Minnesotans for generations.

‘One dryer sheet at a time’ Do you ever see something and think about when it was brand new? I love opening new stuff so much it has become a ritual. I’ll get a box in the mail, grab my knife, cut the different taped edges, flip the box over, and lift the box so that the object sits with the packaging. Then I take all that stuff off, throw the box into the basement to join the last 20 boxes I received, and the final, most satisfying part is peeling off all the plastic sheets adhered to glass. Do you know what I’m talking about?

It’s one of those oddly satisfying things that makes up life’s great pleasures.

One thing I just opened up recently was a new, 250-count box of dryer sheets. Do you know how Pastors long it takes me to use 250 dryer Ponderings sheets? That’s over two years at my current laundry-pace. Which means I bought that old box in 2020. Do David Hodd you know how much has happened since 2020?

The David who bought that box could not even imagine how the world would be different by the time that box was done doing whatever dryer sheets do—what do they do? Which makes me wonder,

and the overwhelming message I’m hearing is that people want leaders who will work together to get things done. We’re tired of fighting and the loud voices of extremism. We want effective leaders who understand the real problems facing Minnesota and who are ready to get to work.

Our current senator has been in office for more than a decade, and while I appreciate his service, it’s clear our community is ready to shift direction from dangerous misinformation and party line purists who ignore the challenges families are facing now. They need relief from rising costs, great schools where our kids can learn and thrive, safe neighborhoods, and good paying jobs.

I may not have all the answers to the challenges we face, but I promise I will listen to every good idea, no matter where it originates and when elected, will do everything in my power to advance real solutions that will keep our community a great place to live, work and raise a family.

can I even imagine what life will be like when my new box is all used up? What sort of things will I accomplish or fail at in the next two years? How will our society grow and adapt? What problems will we solve, what new problems will arise? How wild can we dream? Will we have to deal with aliens? Will the cost of jetpack fuel be too high?

Will the DMV still be horrible?

The Bible is full of stories where folks look back at all the things they’ve accomplished. Moses was a stuttering orphan who led a revolution. Peter was a fisher who helped start the church. Saul became Paul and spread the gospel all the way to Rome.

My point is we often travel farther than we can dream. Often times, we transform so slowly we miss it. Transformation doesn’t happen all at once, but moment by moment. It’s full of twists and turns, backtracking and slip ups, all happening one dryer sheet at a time.

As I watch the tumult of our shared world, I pray that we would begin to dream beyond our limits for a world of love and equality. And then start taking the step-by-step journey to make those dreams a reality.

Shoreview embodies nearly 90 miles of sidewalks and trails.

The North Metro is a bike friendly community with an elaborate trail system that allows residents to connect to parks, shopping areas and the community center.

The Bikes and Trails Committee will sponsor a booth at the Slice of Shoreview on July 22-24.

“We answer questions about bike safety and the

trails in Shoreview,” Ted Haaf, of the Bikes and Trails Committee said. “We also sponsor a bike ride at the Slice and it’s affectionally called the Tour-de-Trails.”

The ride will be held from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, July 26 and begin at the Deluxe Corporation parking lot, 3680 Victoria Street N., underneath the Shoreview water tower. Riders must start by 8:30 a.m. and finish by 11 a.m.

The cost for the Tour-de-Trails bike ride is $7 per person or $20 per family. Participants must register

by July 21. Mark Stange, of the bikeways and trails committee, said riders can register online, at City Hall, or mail payment to City Hall. There will be no day-of registration this year. Riders can check in anytime between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. “Route maps will be provided at check-in and riders will receive a free T-shirt,” Stange said.

According to the city’s website, the short route is 13.07 miles perfect for family groups and casual cyclists. The long route is 22.52 miles and riders bike through Rice Creek Park. Stange noted that riders can take marked short cuts to customize the ride.

“The cool thing about the Shoreview trails is you can go north and east and be on country roads that are nice and relatively safe from cars,” Stange said.

“There are some really neat spots especially on the north end.”

Stange said arrows will be placed throughout the trails for guidance and there will be a rest stop with water available on the long route.

“It’s a fun for all community event,” Haaf said. “A lot of people are interested in our trails and some even move to Shoreview to enjoy the trails. I know I did.”

Barbie collection journeys from Australia to North Metro

For 10 years, Lynne Abbott’s Barbie collection was hidden from the world.

“The Barbies have taken a few international journeys,” Abbott said.

“When my husband John and I sold our home in Sydney, Australia 10 years ago, we packed up the Barbie collection and took them out of storage when we moved here to Shoreview.”

Over 1,000 Barbie dolls and accessories are displayed in a room Abbott affectionally calls “the Barbie room.”

“There are Barbies of all shapes and sizes,” Abbott said. “I also have 200 more Barbie dolls that are not on display in the Barbie room.”

Abbott said she started collecting Barbies years ago for one of her daughters.

“My middle daughter Kristi is one of the reasons I became interested in Barbies,” Abbott said. “When she was 2, Kristi discovered Barbies when her older sister was given a Barbie who played with it for about five minutes.

Then Kristi played with it for about three hours and she was hooked.”

Kristi then would get Barbies for Christmas and birthdays. She had her

Barbie collection by time she was 14 years old.

One year the family went on vacation and Kristi put all of her Barbies in a backpack and left it in the hotel on the way to the airport.

“She was devastated because she lost all of her ‘80s Barbies,” Abbott said.

“Right after that I found out I had a form of cancer and I decided I would like to leave a legacy for each of my children. I asked Kristi if she wanted me to build her a Barbie collection and reinstate all of her ‘80s Barbies. And that opened up Pandora’s box.”

After a year of radiation therapy, Abbott was cancer-free. She continued to find Barbie dolls for Kristi in Australia.

“When I started doing this collection for Kristi, the availability of dolls in Australia was just not there,” Abbott said. “So, I started purchasing them when I came back to America.”

John, a Mounds View High School graduate, had family in Minnesota so the couple traveled back and forth from Australia to the U.S. Before they retired, the couple owned a management training business.

“We used to run leadership programs and finance programs and one of our big clients was Mattel in

southeast Asia,” Abbott said. “I took a tour of the Mattel factory and was amazed how Barbies are made.”

“Like the natural eyelashes where a woman sews the hair eyelashes in and then another person cuts them according to the length they want for that each particular doll,” she added.

“My appreciation for them grew when I got to see what went on behind the scenes.”

Some of the Barbie dolls and accessories in the Barbie room include — holiday, Disney, Marilyn Monroe, Skipper, Ken, “Gone with the Wind,” Barbie vehicles and a 1961 all cardboard Barbie house.

There’s even a tree with hanging Barbie ornaments in the Barbie room.

One of Abbott’s favorites in the collection is the ethnic Philippines Barbies. “They are extremely beautiful and unique,” she said.

“In the beginning, I wasn’t quite as properly focused on what to collect,” she said. “Occasionally I would see something that would grab my fancy.”

For the last few years Abbott has focused on collecting vintage Barbie dolls.

“It has been an education and I see the influence it had on Kristi where she’s gone with her career,” Abbott said. “She went on to get an

arts degree and an MBA. Now she’s a fully-fledged artist. I think Barbie had something to do with that.”

CENTENNIAL GRAD: Lands first meteorologist job of career in Iowa FROM PAGE 1

in amazement as Minnesota meteorologists like Dave Dahl, Ian Leonard, Chris Shaffer and Belinda Jensen presented forecasts on TV. “They all looked like they enjoyed their job and stuck with it for a while, so I wanted to do that once I was old enough,” he explained.

Cassidy graduated from Centennial High School in 2018. He then attended Iowa State University where he studied meteorology. During college, he served in the American Meteorological Society (AMS) chapter for four years. He also worked for Iowa State’s weather show “Cy’s Eyes on the Skies.”

In October 2021, Cassidy started a paid internship with KWWL in Waterloo, Iowa. “I learned the ins and outs of how a broadcast job works. Everything from forecasting, to uploading photos and videos

to social media, to how to put together a show with graphics…” Cassidy said. “As things kept going, I got more and more comfortable at the spot, and there was a job opening, so I applied and the rest is history.”

Cassidy graduated in May and in June, he started his full-time career at KWWL. “I enjoy the fact that each day is going to be different since weather is always changing,” he said. “There’s always new weather stats along with weather photos people send in. I also love interacting with the people of the area and being able to share their photos or rainfall reports with the rest of eastern Iowa.”

As far as what he is looking forward to the most, Cassidy is excited to improve his broadcast meteorology skills as well as his communication skills each day. He also plans to get involved in the

community of eastern Iowa.

When Cassidy is not on the job, he enjoys reading, watching hit TV shows and playing any sport with a ball. Perhaps most of all, he enjoys cheering on Minnesota sports teams.

For now, Cassidy is happy in Iowa. Eventually he plans to relocate to the Twin Cities, where he hopes to land a job at one of the four TV news stations.

“I love working here and I could see myself being here for a while. However, my career goal is to land a job in the Twin Cities. It’s where my family is, it’s where I was born and raised, and I have loved every minute I’ve spent in Minnesota,” he said.

Trudeau says, the two see it as an investment into the community and saw no other choice but to take a leap of faith. After having bought land during COVID-19, they made the decision to start developing that land. The two are no strangers to making hard decisions during poor economic times after having been rookies during the post-recession landscape in 2012 where many college grads were moving back home or applying for more schooling.

Here they are now, 10 years later, making those hard decisions again.

“This is what we need for our business. It’s not a great time, but you have to sometimes just push forward and choose to try,” Trudeau said.

Ollila added, “The client always comes first and so they drive our decisions. We couldn’t find anything

in the area that could meet the needs of our clients, so that’s why we decided to build.”

But their financial business is not their only ties to the community. Olila and Trudeau have started families and are raising them in the same community their clients have been for years. The duo’s commitment to the area is further evidenced with their involvement with the local Rotary club, where they are involved in a high school mentorship program, and the Centennial Area Education Foundation. They are also both on a number of boards and Trudeau coaches his son’s baseball teams and hockey. It’s not uncommon, they say, to bump into some of their clients at games or community events and is something they enjoy.

The opening of the building is set tentatively for November and the team plans on having an open house for their clients and community leaders

Extended School Year program goes all out for annual parade

to check out the space that will not only be used for financial guidance but also for things such as community events, Rotary meetings, nonprofits who are in need of space, retirement parties etc. The new building will have an outdoor patio, lawn area and a kitchenette.

While the building process is a long one and the team is excited to get to the finish line, the two are looking forward to the next steps for their business. They plan to expand their internal staff with two more advisors and two more office staff and continue to focus on the team and its culture in order to enhance their client experience.

Ollila and Trudeau hope the transition is smooth for new and current clients now that they have put a permanent stake in the ground and plan to be around 20-30 years from now.
