Crafting For Profit

14 max Crafting can be more than a hobby - it can be a livelihood In this course, students will create handmade craft items through a form of their choosing: crocheting, knitting, needle point, felt crafts, paper crafts, beading, and jewelry making, etc Students will ultimately sell them for a profit Students will be encouraged to make items that are small to medium-sized in scope so they can accomplish more than one project (goal of at least 10). Students will learn about the basics of starting their own small business and hear from local artisans and business owners about the basics of building a business around your passion to include topics on branding, pricing, inventory, marketing, etc We will make at least one short day trip to visit a local artisan/shop. At the end of the course, students will sell their crafts at a craft fair No previous crafting experience is required Craft styles are limited to those things that can be completed in a classroom with limited equipment Craft supplies will be purchased as part of the J-term course and covered by your cost

14 max The study of diseases, pandemics, and other public health concerns is everevolving In this J-Term course, we will explore the history of global pandemics and how public health officials have handled them in the past. We will also discuss current challenges in the public health space and where research is heading in the future If the public health measures allow it, one or more trips to the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) to hear from current health experts will be included in the course.
