HOME SEASON 2023

Cr Mark Lane

The Round is looking great and will undoubtedly be one of the best performing arts centres in Melbourne! We’re excited to unveil the season launch which promises to fill your hearts with joy with the chosen theme of ‘Home’. The Round is our new ‘home’ for the community to embrace and enjoy performing arts, and we can’t wait to celebrate its opening and welcome you with bursts of theatre, music and dance.

Acknowledgement of Country

I love seeing young people take initiative, care and engage with their communities. Harriet Doig, who’s in grade 6, took it on herself to make our city cleaner and now, all who enjoy Charlesworth Park in Vermont South are reaping the benefits. With community at the heart of everything we do, this demonstrates our responsiveness to all community concerns and from all community members. Check out Harriet’s story on page 4.

We also had massive community engagement on the East Burwood Reserve Draft Masterplan – with more than 2300 survey responses. Please also get behind our Positive Ageing survey, to help shape Whitehorse to be an age friendly place to live. More details on page 5. Please continue to take care during winter. Free COVID-19 RATs are available from our Customer Service centres or at our Aqualink facilities.

Advocating for Whitehorse

Council continues to work closely with the Victorian Government on the delivery of the three major transport projects in Whitehorse. Issues such as vegetation, open space, convenient and safe transport options, and support for impacted residents and businesses are all significant issues and we continue to advocate for great community outcomes.

Suburban Rail Loop (SRL)

Works have commenced to establish the site compound at Burwood for the construction of SRL station near Deakin University. Sinnott Street Reserve in Burwood is now closed, however a fabulous new park and play space has been constructed at 37 Cumming Street and 36 Gillard Street, Burwood.

A work site has also been established in Box Hill to prepare for the new SRL Station, including the relocation of the tram terminus.

Mont Albert Road level crossing removal

The new Union Station is now operational. The old Mont Albert station building has been refurbished and relocated to the new plaza in Mont Albert Village.

North East Link

Community feedback on the first section of the Eastern Freeway scheduled to be designed and constructed between Station Street, Box Hill North and Burke Road, Balwyn North, is planned to be invited later in 2023. For further information about these projects, please visit Victoria’s Big Build website.
