One constant in our municipality is change. What are now bustling roads and transport networks were once orchards and farms, where artists would come in the late 1800s for an idyllic weekend of camping and painting. While we still enjoy beautiful green spaces, creeks and parks in our municipality, it’s clear Whitehorse is getting busier.

I’d like to acknowledge that a number of our residents and businesses have been and are continuing to live with disruption. The Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project at Mont Albert and Surrey Hills

Level Crossing Removal Project –Disruption Update

On Friday 17 February, the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) began their threemonth ‘Big Dig’, which is the final stage of works to remove the level crossings at Union Road, Surrey Hills and Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert.

Union Road and Mont Albert Road will be closed at the level crossing until early May as crews work to remove the crossings and build the new Union Station.

During this period, a local shuttle bus service will connect locals on both sides of the rail corridor and to the shopping precincts. It will also connect to rail replacement bus services.

has seen the closure of the Belgrave and Lilydale train lines until late May. Removing level crossings has many benefits, from safety of road and train users, train frequency, to traffic flow impacts for everyone including emergency services vehicles. Thank you for your patience as the state government undertakes these works. Within Whitehorse, we will see other Big Build projects in our patch in coming years, including the Suburban Rail Loop in Box Hill and Burwood and the North East Link. We continue to advocate for as many improvements as possible, and for the impacts to be mitigated wherever possible.

There will be many disruptions to public transport during this time. Visit www.ptv.vic.gov.au to plan your trip around these disruptions:

▪ Trains travelling towards Lilydale and Belgrave will not stop at Surrey Hills Station

▪ Buses will replace trains on sections of the Belgrave and Lilydale line

▪ Mont Albert station and Surrey Hills station will permanently close
