FRACTAL GEOMETRY

The striking irregular shapes of fractal geometry exist universally in our daily lives. These shapes are formed from contours in nature and the human body alike.
‘Fractal’ is a mathematical term that explains the somewhat chaotic patterns and shapes that make up many structures in the world around us, including within the human body. It describes the way art and science are inextricably linked. For example, topographic maps of mountains coincide with the bodys contour silhouette as well as the beat waves.

This collection draws inspiration from the connection between nature and the human body through the juxtaposing shapes they both form. It includes fractal patterns that can be found in the body’s make-up as well as in the topographic contours of environmental elements such as mountains.
The colours sourced for this collection draw further on this interconnectedness between human form and the outside world. The teal green found in veins and nature unify the disparity between the natural world and biological form. Bold black is used to reinforce these lines and curves between the two which is unveiled through the clear plastic vynal.
The contrasting textures of shine vs matte relate to the fractal patterns found in nature and the human form that co-exist in contrast with more conventional environmental elements.
By creating unified lines and curves through fine detailing and exaggerated silhouettes, this collection shows how the human body is intertwined with nature through mystifyingly chaotic fractal geometry.
