Jacob Yammine is an emerging Interior Designer crafting distinctive spaces using high contrast and strong organic motifs. BRIEF The brief of the project is to design a boutique hotel that allows for all customers to enjoy their stay and have a new experience. By instilling this in this project, the hotel needs to be designed by using elements of the Mediterranean/European styles as this will allow for the people to be immersed into the experience. The hotel will be designed to have an atmosphere and mood of relaxation and calmness as the people should be able to reset and rewind at the hotel. The hotel needs to incorporate the aesthetic of the Calile Hotel as both locations need to connect as the branding should follow through. By using the same design elements from the original location it will allow for people to still be familiar with the brand and will be easily sighted when staying at the hotel. The hotel will be designed as there are various different room categories.
The 1st floor will be an open space that caters for people to enjoy the various seating space as well as admiring the view of Coogee Beach. The lobby bar will open for access to the public as this space is multifunctional. The rooftop will be designed to have a large open spaces that can allow for people to relax under the sun. The infinity pool has the amazing view of Coogee Beach. The pool will be open to the public as bookings will need to be placed for people not staying. The rooftop features loose seating as well as closed spaces to allow for a more intimate feel.

CLIENT The client for this project will be Michael & Cal Malouf as he is the owner of the Calile. The Calile Hotel is a luxury hotel resort based in Brisbane that is designed to allow for people to escape the busy city life and step into a space that can allow them to relax and unwind. The aesthetics of the Calile is minimalist brutalist. The design elements of the Calile such as the colour stories create a mood of warmth as warm tones of light beiges, light browns, blush pinks and white elevate the space and create that relaxing atmosphere. The Calile also has a pool that can be accessed by the public as this is one of their prominent features of the hotel. The pool area caters for wide open spaces with sun seating as well as tables for eating and drinking.

03 PROPOSAL

DESIGN CRITERIA PROGRAM: The hotel will consist of a lobby, lounge area, bars, pool, suites as well as standard rooms. There will be storage for all supplies of the hotel as well as dedicated rooms for staff members and loading docks. SPATIAL PLANNING: the reception and lobby will be designed to be welcoming and inviting to the people. This will be the first entrance to the hotel as this space will be designed to evoke the Mediterranean/European style of the hotel. Moving past the reception and lobby, people will be greeted with the lounge area and will be designed to be able to access from all surrounding areas. On the roof top of the hotel is the pool as people can see the beautifully designed pool with cabanas and sitting spaces as well as a bar connected to the pool area. The rooms will be on level 1. The corridors will be designed to allow for a seamless travel between rooms, lifts and stairways. The suites will be designed to have enough walking space between the en suite, the bed and sitting spaces as well as having a spacious suite will show the luxury of the rooms. The standard rooms will be designed with the same intentions of the suites as the standard rooms will be created to be able to have a seamless flow from the en suite and the bed. The beach club will be designed to have a flow of being greeted with the beach club bar first as people can visit the bar and enjoy the beautiful view of Coogee beach.

DESIGN CRITERIA MATERIALITY: The materiality of the space will reflect the materials that have been used in Mediterranean/European interiors as polished concrete, stucco, venetian plaster and lime washes will be the main wall finishes of the space. By using a warm colour palette of beiges, browns and terracottas it will refer to the connection between the original location and the new location. Pairing these neutral colours with soft tones of sage green it will connect back to the branding of the Calile Hotel as well as create a ‘holiday’ type of feel to the space. Beautiful stones such as terrazzos and travertines will be used to contrast with the wall finishes as both stone styles pair beautifully with the colours of the spaces as well as the different visual textures. Contrasting soft upholstery with tweeded and rough fabrics will help embrace the luxurious design to the space. Custom joinery designed for the space to create unique furniture designed for the space. Having a warm toned hardware will also add to the design of the space. DETAILING: Carrying through the concept of creating a distinctive experience for the people, the hotel will have specific characteristics of Mediterranean/ European interiors, such as beautiful arches and openings that will allow light to travel through. Playing with curves the hotel will embrace curves as they will be used to create curved ceilings as well as curved walls to create a more relaxed and free flowing space.

CONCEPT This interior will bring the Mediterranean lifestyle to Sydney by creating a distinctive experience through materiality and design. The Calile Hotel is known for its simple but elegant designs, which will be combined with Mediterranean architecture and materials. Through the undulating forms, soft curves, broken stove pavement and light neutrals it will allow for people to be fully immersed in the experience of the Mediterranean architecture and lifestyle. Pairing these distinctive features with travertine flooring and lime wash finishes it will bring the two worlds together.
Having the Calile’s iconic sun chaise lounges and the striped umbrellas on the rooftop pool it creates a mood of relaxation as well as being transported to the Mediterranean beaches and coastlines.
