Requestria is a multi-season capsule collection which combines equestrian and western cowboy culture. The Eques trian element of this concept refers to people who en gage in horseback riding activities (Manitoba horse coun cil, 2022). The ‘wild west’ aspect of the concept refers to cowboy culture, which originated in Spain and has heavily in fluenced the Northern American continent (Nodjimbadem, 2017).
Through the inspiration of Burberry and Louis Vuit ton, I researched fashion trends including prints and pat terns, colour palettes, and fashion silhouettes that evoke the sense of ‘Wild West equestrians’ in order to showcase a re modelled outlook of both equestrian and cowboy culture.
The goal of this design is to evoke the spirit of a gaucho, who are known for being strong, intelligent, and highly skilled horse men (Matero, 2022). Despite the fact that cowboys and equestrians are associated with a male-dominated culture, this collection is geared towards women. With Annie Oakley as an iconic figure for women who was remembered as the legendary frontwoman and an advocate for women to learn a sport that was predom inantly dominated by men (Anderson, 2018), this collection is intended for strong women in modern day society who embody their self liberation with elegance. The collection adds a contem porary spin to both of these cultures by incorporating elements of print and colour, hardware, and volume yet slick aesthet ics that are designed to instil confidence in the client in what they wear and represent, and thus in what they can see in my brand. My brand aspires to include the ‘art of living,’ which is based on the concept of living a life that one enjoys. I want to convey this message by experimenting with various mediums.
The collection consists of a hero garment that contains the utilisation of bold colours such as shades of green, red-or ange and tints of purple and black. The fabrication included in this collection is a unique metallic floral print embellished with floral like buttons, paired with a trench style under shirt.
