THE CONCEPT

The Aquatics is a collection both inspired and dedicated to the ocean. Its aim is to create beautiful pieces that not only reflect the textures, colours and silhouettes of the ocean but promote sustainability and conservation.

Today, fashion is one of the most fast-paced industries in the world thanks to social media allowing new trends to come and go within a week or two. Because of this, the industry contributes to 10% of global carbon dioxide output which is “more than international flights and shipping combined” (United Nations Environment Programme) and produces 92 million tonnes of textile waste per year.

Considering the above statements, The Aquatics collection has been designed so that each piece can be styled with another piece from an outfit. Garments have been designed with different textures, silhouettes,

and complementary colours to create a collection where each piece can be styled differently to create new outfits that can be worn on different occasions.

Each body within the collection is inspired by a different ocean element and its texture. Body one takes inspiration from the whitewash when waves crash down onto the sand, body two takes inspiration from coral reefs and the final body, three, takes inspiration from the sand which lays the sea floor. Each outfit within this collection is styled with a piece that is inspired by the sea anemone, a flower like marine animal.

SUSTAINABILITY

Taking inspiration from the ocean, it is inevitable that this collection respects that environment and helps to advocate for a better future. The Aquatics is a collection created using 100% sustainable fabrics including natural and ethically sourced fabrics, deadstock, and upcycling un-used products. All fabrics and fabrications that are not used will be taken to a fabric recycling facility that will give these scraps a new life. (This being Upparel)

As a designer, it is important to take responsibility for our actions and carbon footprint within the industry and act ethically, which is why this collection has been created with sustainability at the fore front of the design process. MARKET

Targeting early twenties to late thirties, the aquatics resort collection is appealing to the young woman who values sustainability and good design. The woman wears simple yet elegant clothing and isn’t afraid to go out of the box to add a refreshing element to her outfit through styling, different textures or silhouettes.

The Aquatics collection will be sold in stores within Australia such as David Jones and Myers sitting next to Aje and Zimmermann. On an international scale, the collection will be sold online through websites such as FarFetch sitting amongst brands including Cult Gaia, Aliétte and Carolina Herrera.
