Amani El Houli is a student designer with a strong passion to create. Her designs take inspiration from the past, present and future fused with elements of nature and science that blend to create bold and impactful garments. She is a designer that aims to push the boundaries of fashion to create collections that tell a story and blurs the lines between fashion and art. Through her meticulous research, Amani is able to develop concepts and designs of high quality through detailed design and construction. She aspires to continue creating designs that push the boundaries of fashion and her abilities as a designer.
Her latest venture has been her graduate collection titled ‘Femme Fatele’ inspired by female warriors that are reflected throughout her 4 bodies of work. Amani did deep research into the uniforms worn by warriors throughout history to better understand their construction and purpose in order to better reflect these into her pieces. Each piece is designed to embody the strength and resilience of these fierce women, while also incorporating modern and edgy elements. From bold silhouettes to intricate details, this collection is a true representation of her passion for fashion and her admiration for powerful women.
CONCEPT
“Femme Fatale” is a collection inspired by historical warriors and takes inspiration from the uniform they wore in combat. This symbol of protection is reflected throughout the collection and builds upon the idea of a fierce woman. “femme fatale” is a french term translating to “deadly woman” and is an archetype commonly explored throughout poetry, art and literature. These concepts have been broken down into a 3 body collection combining feminine and masculine silhouettes through tailoring, structural garments and detailed sewing techniques. The garments present a number of bold silhouettes with twisting details that are striking to the eye and are bound to capture the audience’s attention. The aim for fabric sourcing was to find as many fabrics composed of organic materials. This was done by sourcing fabrics locally and searching for fabrics with at least 80% of organic material. The fabrics I’ve gathered mostly consist of wool, a reliable and sustainable fabric with many benefits. These wool fabrics will be used across all 3 garments including the stretch fabrics. The thicker wool will be a great factor for the more structural pieces as it holds its shape better.
