Like an ancient tapestry, this coat preserves a narrative. It tells a cautionary tale of the fate that awaits those who do not respect nature’s power. This was achieved through the use of a code of symbols. Pollution, warning signs, wrath, and finally decay are all depicted. As well as refernce to some mythical creatures of the sea, and above it all, the moon.

SIREN
The siren; ethereal, bewildering, and cunning. She uses her siren song to lure lowly sailors into the depths of the ocean. With the strength to tempt even the likes First you willofcome to the the great Odysseus, her deadly beauty Sirens who enchant all who tocome is a testament The Ocean’s power. near them. If any one unwarily draws in too close and hears the singing of the Sirens, his wife and children will never welcome him home again, for they sit in a green field and warble him to death with the sweetness of their song. They sit beside the ocean, combing their long golden hair and singing to passing sailors. But anyone who hears their song is bewitched by its sweetness, and they are drawn to that island like iron to a magnet. And their ship smashes upon rocks as sharp as spears. And those sailors join the many victims of the Sirens in a meadow filled with skeletons.
SAILOR

The fisherman lives off the land, using the ocean to his advantage. But when does resourcefulness turn into greed? Their livelyhood depends on the sea but what happens when there is nothing left to take? You did not kill the fish only to keep alive and to sell for food, he thought. You killed him for pride and because you are a fisherman. You loved him when he was alive and you loved him after. If you love him, it is not a sin to kill him. Or is it more?
The tide lowers and heightens, waves form and crash, the ocean pushes and pulls; endless impermanence. Nature’s intent will always conquer. How naive and egotistical we must be to think we have reign over the Earth. We are powerless at nature’s mercy and yet we continue disrespecting it. The we

The collection, Waning Sea, explores this concept. Using a series of symbols which are derived from various oceanic textures and occurrences, this collection explores the complexity of cosmic insignificance in the face of nature’s power.
