Summi Summi is a local label created in Yamba by Ashleigh Vallis. Blending contemporary designs with coastal vibes Ashleigh creates collections of staple basics, designed to wear from beach to bar. Known for their vibrant colourways and bold prints Summi’s has evolved its seasonless signature pieces to branch out from the small town into the wardrobes of women around Australia and the world. Summi Summi’s Resort 2023 collection is scattered throughout the magazine, with select pieces displayed to complement the town’s natural vibrance & energy.

Karrikin

Inspired by karrikins, the family of proteins that bind soil and come to renew life in the aftermath of smoke and bushfire. Activated karrikins are washed through the soil by rainfall, causing many Australian plant species to germinate en masse.

Owned by couple Zac Roberts and Clare Bourke, Karrikin celebrates Australian native cuisine by highlighting the region’s seasonal produced, local catches and foraged delicacies. Their seasonal and ever evolving 4-course set menu is accompanied by a bright, balanced cocktail selection and a cooling sea breeze, ensuring your senses come to life and those tastebuds will dance the night away.

YAMBA SLSC

As steady as the tide goes in and out, Geoff ‘sleepy’ Sanders has watched over the surf at Yamba SLSC for 60 years. He looks along and reminisces on his time at the club, as his grandchildren dance about the shores of main beach. Yet another generation of eager Nippers.

He recounts memories of the 60’s, with members piling onto the bus year round from Grafton for a day of sea and sun on the coast. A parting beverage - or three - at the Pacific Hotel always preceded

a rowdy ride home with stories and songs shared along the way. From organised fundraisers and community events, to the club bunkhouse and family summer activities, the SLSC is a story of multigenerational connection.

The sense of place and community values that has grown from the far north coast’s first regional club, is clearly such an integral pillar in this tight-knit community, and its legacy has set the scene since 1908 for a collaborative and flourishing region.
