MAGAZINE

The expanded 1st edition of Sole Magazine is a visual journey on which we celebrate the joy of fresh sneakers, cherish our beloved 20-year old beaten-up pairs and appreciate the innovative and genius design behind some of the world’s most iconic shoes.
This version features a series of profiles on creatives, artists & designers, including exclusive interviews & a closer look into what sneakers mean to the people that wear them. Our project aims to capture the essense of a community; people in their element; their creative passions, their location, their personal style and their sneakers.
a key link between sneakers are the common factor between generations of people reimagining a staple in endless different ways; reinterpreted across industries, hemispheres, societies and through ever-changing trends; customised and worn every-which-way but always a constant.
a powerful first impression that speaks so much for itself; a wearable art and diverse piece of intricate design made to be both accessible and desirable.
“...Fortunately enough I’m here to speak some news on some sneakers (…) that I caught a bit of a deal on you could say. The sneakers we’re talking about here - these boys - ‘airsprung 97s’. 98’s? 97’s? Let’s go! They’re a really epic colourway, they’ve got this sort of overlocking detail… $170 I got them for at this outlet in Queensland - I guess funnily enough the colourway is kind of rare in a sense, like you would never see this sort of top stitch detailing with 97’s. I’ve often copped the whole ‘these are definitely fake’ type of thing, which makes me kind of mad. These aren’t fake ‘airsprung’ - little bit of a sustainability movement for these guys who are behind the vision over there at Nike.”
Nike released their Air Max Plus (more commonly referred to as the ‘Tn’) in 1998, sending shock waves through streetwear culture across the globe, most notably in Australia. Designed by Sean McDowell and inspired by palm trees, the iconic silhouette is arguably the most recognisable and significant sneaker release by Nike to date.
Debuted in 1996, the Air More Uptempo is a basketball sneaker with bold lettering and an iconic silhouette.

“ ... my favourite shoes are Yeezy’s. I’ve had these shoes for ... like, the whole time I’ve lived in my apartment in the city. I bought them when I was moving into the apartment... cos’ I was like, I, like, wanna have a fresh vibe I suppose.”
“I’m really precious about wearing them in the rain or like, if they get wet... I just love them to be honest. They’re comfortable, they’re like slippers... there’s no challenge to putting them on. They’re just like the best shoes I’ve ever owned.”

I bought them on ebay - I can’t remember for how much, not much I’m guessing - like under 100 dollars. But I thought they were pretty cool even though they’re so old. Recently, think someone threatened to roll me for them. I was at a party and this guy came up and was, like, asking me about them. He was like ‘oh yeah only ever see kinseis on junkies and yeah the last guy I saw wearing them asked what size are they?. So, what size are they?’ was like ‘uh-uh go away!!’. But anyway I love these and I protect them with my life.”
Madison Claire Georgey is a stylist, photographer and illustrator, as well as the editor for Sole Magazine, with a passion for graphic design, a special interest in sneaker culture and all things wacky and colourful. Two key elements of her design philosophy are relatability and humour; taking something viewers are familiar with and twisting it just enough to surprise them. Her creative projects pose the question: how beneficial, inclusive and accessible is the post-modern design world, and how can we make it better?
