MEDITATION OF BLOODLINE
CONCEPT STATEMENT
THE KIN is a S/S 25 5 Body collection based on the architecture and materials of the traditional ancestral houses of Toraja, Indonesia. The collection features a Pure Wool Crepe Suiting as its primary fabric, with a focus on pleating, inspired by the bamboo panels on said houses. Red is the collection’s central colour, reminiscent of the ceremonial connotations it holds in Indonesia. Pink is used in conjuction with Red to create a sense of balance. The spiked and straight silhouettes of the garments allude to the iconic geometric shapes of the roofs and carvings. These pieces are a reflection of the beauty of lineage and blood lines, as well as the passage of time. For example, the evolution of the silhouettes, from the Hero Body’s abstract silhouette to Look 4’s contemporary silhouette. Spikes, Triangles and Trapezia as shapes are central to this collection as they create a sense of regality and strength. The use of wool in combination with contemporary silhouettes is deliberate in creating a clash that conveys the way in which tradition is transformed.
