Cheshire Golf Club of the Year Award 2019
The Award Winning Stockport Golf Club
Visitors love the course, particularly the difficult 1st hole that plays its full distance of 463 yards from the back tees. There is a steep bank running across the fairway at 200 yards and a big dip for any shot hit to the right, the second shot needs to be hit correctly onto the green that slopes from back to front.
The premier golfing destination in Cheshire Founded in 1905, Stockport Golf Club is one of the premier golf clubs in the North West, providing visitors and members alike with a golf course in superb condition, a welcome that is friendly, service that is attentive and an experience that is unforgettable. Few clubs in the North West can rival the Stockport offering. A beautiful and challenging tree-lined course, a traditional clubhouse, a wonderful restaurant with stunning views across the course and a welcoming bar are just some of the reasons why many visitors return year after year. Key to the experience is of course, the course! Stockport Golf Club has built an enviable reputation for producing a fantastic, championship-standard golf course. Whether a passing visitor or a member’s guest, playing in a society or corporate event, or in an open competition or club match, the Club aims to exceed your expectations. Originally designed by the 1902 Open Champion Sandy Herd, the beautiful and challenging golf course is an 18-hole, Par 71, 6,373-yards long, played through picturesque tree lined parkland, with a lay-out that is the envy of many. The course has hosted The Open Regional Qualifier as well as many other major amateur events in recent years and is well known as one of the golfing jewels of the North West. The blue course is a stiff test for member competitions and championship golf, while the visitors’ course, measuring up to 6106 yards, is the perfect challenge for corporate days and societies alike. The Ladies course, although shorter in length at 5518 yards, requires a well thought out game.
The 8th is the most memorable of all the holes. It is a par 3 of 201 yards and there is trouble almost everywhere you look. There is out of bounds on the right, and around the green. The three bunkers by the green are to be avoided. Once on the green you’re faced with a putt which will be affected by the slopes, this makes two putts very difficult to achieve. Stockport hosts many prestigious and high-quality golf days throughout the year with many clients booking year on year. Golf Societies and Corporate Days are particularly welcome at Stockport Golf Club. Blending together the challenges of the picturesque golf course with superb catering and years of experience in delivering high quality events, Golf Societies and Corporate clients can be assured of the perfect destination for a golf day. Alongside a choice of set Society and Corporate packages, the Club can also tailor individual packages to suit specific requirements. The team has a wealth of knowledge of managing Society or Corporate days, and can provide support and advice from the outset to make any day a complete success.
