East Lothian Links Golf Course of the Year 2019

T

he par 69 golf course which measures across 5,502 yards is listed as the 35th golf club to be registered in the world. Offering a traditional and truly memorable Scottish links golf course, every year some twenty eight thousand pairs of feet walk the fairways of Kilspindie Golf Club with many visitors returning year–after-year - a testimony to its lasting design and layout as well as the green keeping team that maintain the golf course. In fact, it is more than fair to say that the Kilspindie golf course is presented as well in the winter as it is in the summer months. Golf was first played on parts of Kilspindie prior to 1850 but the Club was first established in 1867 on the other side of Aberlady Bay, originally as Luffness Golf Club.

For a number of reasons this older course became unusable and the Club split. The original Club moved to a new course at Kilspindie links. It was laid out largely as it plays today by renowned golf course architects, Park and Sayers and has received only minor improvements and adjustments over the years that followed. It was not until November 1898 that the links course was officially opened as Luffness Golf Club, renamed Kilspindie in1899. Today, Kilspindie offers an enjoyable but stern test of golf to even the most accomplished of players. However, wide open to the elements and with a prevailing wind from the west, a low score is hard to come by! The Kilspindie clubhouse was competed for the official opening in 1898.

Refurbished and extended over the years to create a comfortable space for relaxing pre or post round with a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and hot and cold food available daily. The one thing that has not changed is the warm welcome that members and visitors receive from the Club. Other facilities of the award-winning golf club include a large putting area, practice green and an excellent professional shop stocking the latest equipment, clothing and accessories from some of the game’s leading manufacturers. Kilspindie’s team of PGA professionals, led by Head PGA Pro, Graham Sked offer expert tuition and advice and are knowledgeable in everything from the golf swing to the latest trends out on the fairways.

The club caters for society guests throughout the year, offering a range of menu options combined with the award winning golf course and excellent facilities of Kilspindie Golf Club. Kilspindie has formed partnerships with local accommodation providers to offer wonderful stay and play deals including bed and breakfast accommodation and golf on the championship Kilspindie golf course. The club’s professional team are on hand for all golf days to offer their advice and assistance to ensure that the event runs smoothly leaving society organisers to enjoy all that the award-winning Kilspindie Golf Club has to offer.
