Weston Super Mare Golf Club, North Somerset

Idyllically located on the south west coast of England and sharing a border with Wales, Somerset is in abundance of beautiful unspoilt countryside and tranquil conditions that are the ideal retreat for a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf.

Today, the Par 70 Weston course represents a challenging test of links golf for all standards of player. The superb golf course which has a WHS course rating of 70.3 and slope rating of 124 from the white tees, demands accurate shots to score well, especially in windy conditions! The county of Lincolnshire features some of the lowest-lying areas of land in England along with other parts of East Anglia. Holme Hall is a classic Heathland Golf Course. Opened in 1908 and built on ancient coversands, it is a free draining course giving playability all year round. Tony Jacklin started his career at the club and remains a member today, and its challenging but fun and fair layout enjoys championship status, with high profile competitions hosted most years.

It is currently undergoing subtle refurbishment to bring more of the natural heather and native trees back into play. Staffordshire Has It All

Located in the heart of England and accessible from the whole country, Staffordshire is a fascinating county of outstanding natural beauty. The main attraction of the landlocked county is the award-winning Alton Towers theme park but there are also plenty of accommodation deals and reasonably priced green fees to take advantage of in the local area.

Staffordshire encompasses parts of the National Forest and Peak District National Park whilst combining the wild moorlands and uplands in the north with the low undulating landscape in the south around Cannock Chase, an area of natural outstanding beauty.

Ideal places to base one’s golfing party would be Stafford or Stoke-on-Trent, the two biggest towns in the county. From here, the county’s luxurious fairways can be easily reached and the Staffordshire golfing challenge well and truly accepted.

Affectionately known as the Potteries, Stoke-on-Trent is a unique city packed full of culture, creative art, technology and expert craftsmanship. The city is home to several museums, retail as well as great dining options. Barlaston Golf Club

A“hidden gem”

Ideal places to base one’s golfing party would be Stafford or Stoke-on-Trent, the two biggest towns in the county. From here, the county’s luxurious fairways can be easily reached and the Staffordshire golfing challenge well and truly accepted.

Staffordshire encompasses parts of the National Forest and Peak District National Park whilst combining the wild moorlands and uplands in the north with the low undulating landscape in the south around Cannock Chase, an area of natural outstanding beauty.

Situated just outside the village of Barlaston in Staffordshire, Barlaston Golf Club features a beautiful parkland golf course. Bordered in part by the River Trent, the course demands good course management due to its challenging layout.

The course was designed by Peter Allis and built around 1972/3 and became a members club in 1987 progressing to the facility that members and visitors enjoy today.

The excellent clubhouse at Barlaston boasts a comfortable lounge bar and spacious dining room offering views across the course and practice putting green. There is also a patio for al fresco dining in the summer months overlooking the eighteenth green and fairway.

The clubhouse can provide a quality selection of drinks, snacks and meals with a regular specials board. The onsite catering facilities provide an excellent service for visiting societies and can offer dining packages tailored to individual needs – they invite group organiser to give them a call to discuss requirements on 01782 372867.

Societies find Barlaston’s attention to detail, flexibility and value for money ideal when organising their golfing calendar. Societies consisting of eight or more players are welcome Monday to Thursday and Saturday and Sunday after 2pm.

Enville Golf Club, Stourbridge

The market town of Stourbridge in the metropolitan borough of Dudley, is situated just 12 miles to the west of Birmingham. A great place to live and to visit, Stourbridge is home to parks and pleasant suburbs on the edge of the Black Country.

The lovely countryside and picturesque villages that surround the town adds to its unique industrial, rural character and add to that well preserved buildings, specialist shops, welcoming pubs and restaurants and you can see why Stourbridge welcomes visitors all year round.

Enville Golf Club in Stourbridge, is an England Golf championship venue which has recently hosted an England Ladies Open Qualifier.

Tucked away near the village of Enville, the first nine holes and clubhouse of Enville Golf Club were erected in 1935 with a second nine added and the course extended to eighteen holes in 1938. Two further loops of nine were added and, in 1983 the 36 holes were re-laid out to create two eighteen hole golf courses.

Today, the two golf courses, which are set in pleasant, undulating countryside; partly heath and partly woodland attract a tremendous amount of visitors each year many of whom return.

The Par 72 Highgate course with a WHS course rating of 73.3 and slope rating of 137 is a blend of picturesque heathland and woodland course; the tees are extremely well cared for, fairways are shaped to perfection and can be fairly linksy in places allowing for good run and the putting surfaces have gained a reputation for being among the best in the area, fast and smooth with subtle contours.

Whilst, the Lodge plays as a Par 71 golf course with a WHS course rating of 72.2 and a slope of 138 is also maintained to the highest standards and comprises eighteen uniquely contrasting holes.

Each course presents a test for even the most accomplished of golfer in idyllic conditions for golf, the typical English heathland golf course offers play all-year-round thanks to excellent drainage.

Enville Golf Club is also home to first class practice facilities including a 360 yard driving range and three short game areas.

The Enville clubhouse and spike bar facilities are available seven days a week. Offering a wide range of local ales and beers, as well as the locally brewed and award-winning Enville Ale the clubhouse is the ideal place to relax and unwind pre or post round.

ENVILLE GOLF CLUB

Enville Golf Club near Stourbridge in the County of South Staffordshire is an R & A and England Golf Championship venue and recently hosted the English Senior Women’s Amateur Championships 2019.

Tranquil surroundings in the West Midlands

The Your Golfer Magazine team were lucky enough to sample The Highgate course for themselves.

A real gem of a golf course, the Highgate is a blend of picturesque heathland and woodland course; the tees are extremely well cared for, fairways are shaped to perfection and can be fairly linksy in places allowing for good run and the putting surfaces have gained a reputation for being among the best in the area, fast and smooth with subtle contours.

A lot of the holes are tree-lined, and with the run many players will reach position using a fairway wood on a good proportion of the holes. There are four par five's on the Highgate with the ninth hole, a monster of a hole at 586 yards off the yellow tees. The course also features four wonderfullydesigned par three's and a couple of exciting par fours back to back on the 12th and 13th.

The Highgate back nine is arguably more difficult that the front nine which prepares players for the challenge ahead.

Both golf courses, the Highgate and Lodge call for excellent course management and accuracy from the tees to shoot a low score.

The Enville clubhouse and spike bar facilities are available seven days a week. Offering a wide range of local ales and beers, as well as the locally brewed and award-winning, Enville Ale the clubhouse is the ideal place to relax and unwind pre or post round.

Royal Musselburgh as a golf club is renowned for many things, especially its history. Dating back to the 1700's, Preston Grange House was originally owned by the Norman family de Quincy running the estate of Preston grange until they supported the losing side in the run up to the Battle of Bannockburn.

With many happenings over the years the full course was opened back in September 1926 and designed by the famous Open Championship golf architect James Braid. This first class picturesque parkland which stretches over 6,254 yards, is kept in tip top condition and is a treat to play.
