Orchids Photographs by Fabio Petroni Text by Anna Maria Botticelli Bewitching, sensual, disturbing: orchids, whose natural species number over 25,000, have forever sparked overwhelming love. Cartier took inspiration from the exquisite blossoms of the Phalaenopsis to create a precious collection of jewels. The volcanic British stylist Vivienne Westwood mixes them extravagantly, in the living room of her home, with paintings and books. One of the most prestigious fashion houses in France, Van Cleef & Arpels, chose one, the Vanilla fragrans, for its very famous and unmistakable perfume. Illustrious personages, artists, and adventurers, dressed in the garb of enterprising plant hunters, have gone round the world in search of them, bringing them back to the West. Important entrepreneurs have become fanatic collectors of them... It is not unusual, then, for even a master photographer like Fabio Petroni to be so deeply struck: he decided to portray them in still-lifes, to present us with close-ups, macros, and details of great charm and appeal. Fabio Petroni specializes in portraits and still life. Over the years he has photographed leading celebrities in the fields of Italian culture, medicine and economics. He works with the main advertising agencies and has authored numerous campaigns for prestigious, internationally renowned companies and firms. Anna Maria Botticelli has always harbored a great passion for plants. She has collaborated for some 20 years with various Italian publishers and is the author of various services and columns dealing with green themes.

A Matter of Fashion
20 Iconic Items that Changed the History of Style Edited by Valeria Manferto De Fabianis Preface by Alberta Ferretti Text by Federico Rocca One usually thinks of the fashion world as ephemeral, but there are creations and names that have left their mark and that, in different ways, have revolutionized the history of fashion and have also mirrored the changes made in society. Indeed, nothing has been the same since the birth of the Burberry trench coat, ballerina pumps or Givenchy’s black sheath dress. Every couturier, fashion designer or fast fashion stylist has had to come to terms with their existence by referring to, elaborating on or simply copying what are now considered classics. Some of these are known by the name of a person, such as the Kelly bag or Borsalino hat. Others have existed for decades, even taking on sociopolitical connotations (for example, Levi’s, which were originally work trousers, became the “uniform” of the young rebels in the 1960s). Yet others, such as the Hermès scarves, continue to be a status symbol. This book presents the history, anecdotes, celebrities and intrinsic values connected to the must haves of fashion. Valeria Manferto De Fabianis is an expert in photograph editing and the creation of images and has edited many books on photography. She has also conceived and mounted photographic exhibitions that enjoyed a great deal of success in various cities and foreign capitals. Alberta Ferretti began her life in the world of fashion when she was only 18, when she inaugurated her first boutique. This marked the start of a career filled with successes, both personal and entrapreneurial, including certain milestones such as the foundation of her firm in 1980 together with her brother Massimo Ferretti, her official debut on the Milan runways, and the rapid growth on an international level. Federico Rocca earned a degree in History of Italian Cinema at the University of Bologna. He then worked in the cinema department of the Telepiù and Sky television companies, later concentrating on fashion. A professional journalist, he is presently fashion editor of www.style.it, a Condé Nast fashion portal.

The Last Supper Leonardo da Vinci
The Masterpiece Revealed through High Technology Preface by Franco Giulio Brambilla Text by Domenico Sguaitamatti
Contains QR codes and links for accessing special multimedia content
When Leonardo da Vinci began laying the first brushstrokes, in 1494, on the refectory wall of the convent adjacent to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, he probably had no idea he was about to create one of the greatest artistic masterpieces of all time. Adopting the innovative, and equally unusual, dry painting technique, the Renaissance genius could not foresee that he would have condemned his work to a particular fragility, and put its conservation at risk in the following centuries. This same technique, however, was what allowed an improved chromatic unity, a rendering of transparencies and light effects, and an extreme precision in details, visible only from close range. Today, thanks to the exclusive magnification published in this volume, even the smallest details of the Last Supper, invisible to the naked eye, can be observed in all their expressive splendor. As you leaf through this book you can admire from up close, as never before possible, the realistic expressions on the faces of the individual Apostles, the movements and positions of their hands, and the smallest details of the outfitted table, thus entering practically into direct contact with Leonardo’s genius at work. Franco Giulio Brambilla is a member of the CEI Episcopal Committee for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Catechism, and until 2013 he was also Chairman of the CEI Board for Advanced Studies of Theology and the Religious Sciences. Domenico Sguaitamatti had been a member of the Sacred Art Committee of the Archdiocese of Milan from 1990 to 2000, and since 2007 he has collaborated with the Cultural Heritage Office of same. He teaches Art and Spirituality at the Istituto Superiore di Scienze Religiose of the Theology Faculty of Milan. Haltadefinizione® promotes the marriage between art and technology. The development of hardware and software technologies for the acquisition and display of images in extremely high definition has made it possible to develop countless projects targeted to the innovative promotion of Italian historic and artistic heritage.

Mick Jagger Edited by Valeria Manferto De Fabianis Text by Billy Altman There may have been musical rebels like Elvis Presley before him, but once Mick Jagger first burst on the scene in 1962 as lead singer for England’s convention-defying Rolling Stones, the mold was broken once and for all. Even fifty years later, his singing and performing style is still the benchmark against which all rock ’n’ roll frontmen are measured. And with good reason: Jagger’s distinctive, malleable voice and preening, prancing antics onstage have yet to be duplicated, let alone equaled or surpassed. Together with his childhood and lifelong “Glimmer Twin” pal, guitarist Keith Richards, chief Stones lyricist Jagger has co-written countless indelible rock and roll classics. Meanwhile, his reputation as a globe-hopping Don Juanesque lover have made him a simultaneously cursed, envied and admired international sex symbol. Remarkably, now seventy years old, Jagger is still going strong on all fronts — and with all his unique cheekiness and take-no-prisoners attitude gloriously intact. The ultimate “Midnight Rambler” rock ’n’ roll rebel. Valeria Manferto De Fabianis is an expert in photograph editing and the creation of images and has edited many books on photography. She has also conceived and mounted photographic exhibitions that enjoyed a great deal of success in various cities and foreign capitals. Billy Altman is a Grammy-nominated music critic and historian whose work has appeared in such places as The New York Times, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Esquire and Spin. A former curator for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a consultant to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, he teaches rock, folk and jazz history courses in the Humanities Department of the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Golf Around the World The Great Game and its Most Spectacular Courses Reprint, New Format
Preface by Adam Scott Text by Fulvio Golob and Giulia Muttoni From their humble origins on the wind-battered Scottish links, today golf courses are found throughout the world. Starting in the countries where golf is a religion – the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States – authors Fulvio Golob and Giulia Muttoni take us on a tour of the best golf courses around the world: from St. Andrews to Augusta National, from Ballybunion to Royal Melbourne, from Pebble Beach to Valderrama, finishing finally in the new Meccas of golf. The golf course becomes not only the field for a sporting event, but also a snapshot that shows the distinctive characteristics of each area. Playing a game of golf can be “a slice of life”: taking on the challenges that a course hides, understanding the psychology of your partner or opponent; it all corresponds to that which we must confront in everyday life off the golf course. Adam Scott is undoubtedly the most talented young Australian golfer since the days of Greg Norman. The results he has achieved in recent years confirm his talents and establish him as one of the best golfers in the world. Fulvio Golob has reported on four editions of the Winter Olympics. He has worked for many sports magazines, specializing in golf. Giulia Muttoni has worked for some of the most important golf magazines as a photographer and journalist and also works with major newspapers. She personally follows the most important European and world golfing events.

Dream Cars
of the 21st Century Photographs by Ron Kimball Text by Massimo Mambretti It seduces both men and women indifferently, especially when it is powerful and luxurious. Even more so when it is unique, or nearly so. The specimen of the high-end luxury car is not only the utmost interpretation on the theme of the automobile, but it is also the inspiring Muse for the creativity and skills of designers and engineers, as well as the dream of all enthusiasts. There never passes a year, nor even a month, without new award-winning supercars coming out. And it matters little whether it is a One-Off, a specimen Just For The Few, For Many But Not For All, or an Instant Classic. Still, it could be the interpretation of concepts destined to exalt its performance – like the lightness of a Featherweight – or to generate (today), with their concept outfitting, automobiles that Will Be Famous. The images and texts in this volume recount the stories of the most important supercars of the last decade. A roundup that entrusts the automobile with what is, perhaps, the best of all roles: that of arousing emotions. Ron Kimball is an internationally renowned photographer specializing in the automotive industry. A remarkable number of exotic autos have been scrutinized in his studio, from the last concept cars to the classic autos of the 1950s. Through his unwavering gaze, Ron Kimball’s photography makes each snapshot a work of art. For over 30 years, his works have been published worldwide. He has authored publicity campaigns, calendars, product packaging, greeting cards, posters and books. His splendid photos appear frequently on numerous magazines such as Time, Newsweek, Business Week, Auto Trader Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic and Car and Driver. Massimo Mambretti debuted in the publishing sector as a writer for the Gazzetta dello Sport. In 1980, he became a member of the editorial staff of the Quattroruote magazine. He then transferred to Gente Motori magazine and at the turn of the 1980s was made a special correspondent for the weekly magazine Auto Oggi. In 1997, choosing to continue as a freelance professional besides being engaged in editorial activities, he became Press Office Director of the Bologna Motor Show and the Auto Salon of Turin. He subsequently returned to full-time work in the publishing sector and currently collaborates with the newspapers Il Giornale and Sole 24 Ore as well as the magazines Automobilismo and La Mia Auto.

Trains
From Steam Locomotives to High Speed-Rail Expanded and Updated Edition Text by Franco Tanel Two centuries ago, Richard Trevithick created the first models of steam locomotives for the Cornwall coal companies in England. At the time, no one could have imagined that in a few decades these “puffing devils” would lead to a complex network of railways traversing the world. Tracing its history through a lively text and exceptional archival and specially commissioned photographs, this handsome volume chronicles the major milestones in the development and evolution of the railroad. Franco Tanel, one of today’s foremost transportation authorities, recounts the events that helped shape the state-of-the-art trains of today, and introduces readers to the visionary men who built the first railways. Organized chronologically, this book presents the key stages in the development of the railroad and explores the intrinsic connection between the birth of the railway and the industrial revolution, and the profound social and cultural changes brought about by the railway. Throughout, superb photographs convey the technical ingenuity, beauty, and sheer emotion evoked by trains throughout their history. Franco Tanel is a photojournalist who has worked for the leading Italian photojournalism agencies, such as Contrasto and Grazia Neri. He writes about transport and city planning for specialist periodicals and has been a contributor to Tuttotreno, the leading Italian railway magazine, since it launched its first issue.

The World’s 100 Best Adventure Trips Text by Jasmina Trifoni “Adventure is worthwhile in itself,” said the aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart. Roald Amundsen, one of the most intrepid explorers in History, put it much more prosaically when he declared that “adventure is just bad planning”. Whichever way you look at it, the spirit of adventure is intrinsic in all of us; it is just a question of finding the right key to unleash it. And that is precisely what this book proposes to do with a collection of 100 adventurous journeys to the four corners of the Earth, on foot or by bicycle, by sail boat or by offroad transport or even by more “exotic” means of transport, to plunge into the wildest forms of nature or to encounter peoples who are very different from ourselves, and even to test our physical limits in extreme sports. Some of the adventures included in the book only last a few days, while others are epic journeys – in the Amazon Forest, along the Grand Trunk Road, the “travelling continent” between Pakistan and India or through the ice of the Antarctic – that will be remembered as once in a lifetime experiences. The chronicle of each one of these journeys, all of which are truly special, is accompanied by spectacular pictures and practical information and advice because, as Amundsen said, a perfect adventure must be well organized. Jasmina Trifoni is a journalist who is specialized in the field of tourism and worked for ten years in the editing department of Meridiani. She is now a freelance journalist and writes for the major Italian magazines in the sphere. Together with Marco Cattaneo, she wrote the work on UNESCO World Heritage Sites in three volumes – The Treasures of Art (2002), Nature Sanctuaries (2003) and Ancient Civilizations (2004) – as well as Great Cities of the World (2005) and 80 Islands to Escape to... and Live Happily Ever After (2012) for White Star. She is a traveler both by profession and by vocation and has gained considerable ethnic and cultural experience, particularly in India, the countries of Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

World Heritage Sites of UNESCO Text by Elena Luraghi This illustrated book accompanies the reader in the discovery of places that are considered to be World Heritage Sites and have been selected for the list of UNESCO sites. It is a rich list that increases year by year and all Nations have ambitions to have sites on it. The general introduction of the book helps the reader to understand the subject, starting from the foundation of UNESCO and the criteria adopted to draw up the World Heritage List, while the introductions to the four chapters that comprise this book examine in greater depth four specific themes. The reader will therefore become acquainted with natural and man-made monuments of great poetic beauty, from mountains to islands, from caves to the kaleidoscopic creations of the underwater world, and on to the extraordinary monuments created over the centuries by Man. The listed works of art, the sites and the monuments which constitute a precious legacy for future generations are the protagonists of this evocative photographic book. It is a book where the panoramas, the views and the details as immortalized by famous photographers bear witness to Man’s extraordinary creative genius and the hypnotic magic of Mother Nature through the photographs. Elena Luraghi is a professional journalist and writes for the style section of the Corriere della Sera, Marie Claire and In Viaggio. She has also written a number of articles on Italy and abroad for the newspaper Il Giornale, and has worked for web-magazines such as Mondadori.com and ViaMichelin. Luraghi coordinated the “Guide di Dove” for Corriere della Sera and, for some years now, has been in charge of the in-flight magazine for the airline Neos.

Tea Sommelier Photographs by Fabio Petroni Text by Gabriella Lombardi Tea is an occasion for sharing, a way to create peace and harmony, a symbol of conviviality and hospitality, a question of taste. It is also a form of meditation: sipping tea in solitude means stopping time and giving yourself a moment of profound spirituality. This richly-illustrated and elegant volume offers a new perspective on the appreciation of this noble beverage. It describes the ritual tools to prepare it, providing the basic instruments for a proper sensory analysis, and also offers a practical glossary. This book will lead enthusiasts through millennia of history, helping to steer them through 50 prized types of tea: an authentic initiation into the art of tasting, a key to enter an extraordinarily rich and diverse world. Finally, a selection of exclusive recipes will suggest the ideal pairings of food and tea: the road to paradise passes through the spout of a teapot. Fabio Petroni studied photography and later collaborated with the most established professionals in the industry. He works with the leading advertising agencies and has signed numerous campaigns for prestigious businesses and companies known around the world, among which are several significant Italian brands. Gabriella Lombardi worked as a publicist for the most famous Italian companies, and in 2010 decided to change her life and realize her dream, opening Chà Tea Atelier. It is the first store with a tea room in Milan that specializes in the sale and tasting of prized teas. She travels regularly to China to continue learning the secrets of the art of tea and refine her knowledge.

I Love Pasta
An Italian Love Story in 100 Recipes Academia Barilla With pasta, it is love at first sight… or perhaps we should say love at first bite. It is a love that continues due to pasta’s infinite variety of shapes, colors, scents and flavors. There are countless stories, styles, techniques and condiments. From spaghetti with tomato sauce, the epitome of simplicity and elegance, to delicious oven-baked cannelloni, pasta breaks all world records for taste and creativity, both in Italy, where it is a national monument, and abroad, where it has conquered tables and lifestyles across the board. As any pasta lover knows, to reach the height of pleasure, each pasta shape – and the Italian cuisine boasts countless varieties – must find its “twin sauce” in order to enhance it to the fullest. This recipe book stems from the desire to relate how the personality of each shape, made up of weight, structure, thickness and surface, makes it best suited to the sauce that, in the annals of history, has shown greater gastronomic affinity with its nature. One hundred recipes recount as many successful love affairs. Each was born in Italy, and adapted to any place endowed with suitable ingredients and conviviality. And each, from egg tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce to bucatini Amatriciana, and from orecchiette with turnip greens to Genoese minestrone with ditalini rigati, is just waiting to be devoured. For Barilla, it’s not just about being a world leader in pasta production. It’s about producing culture. To fulfill its mission to spread authentic Italian cuisine, of which pasta is the undisputed queen, throughout the world, in 2004 Barilla created the international Academia Barilla center, equipped with technologically advanced teaching and practical training environments and a rich gastronomic library featuring a unique collection of its kind.

125 Million
Traditional Italian Gourmet Menus Academia Barilla This volume is a veritable gold mine of ideas for inventing menus that are always new, playing on an incredible number of combinations. The practical spiral binding, in fact, conceals a valuable secret: the capability of multiplying, almost countlessly, the possible combinations among various types of dishes. Thanks to a simple mechanism that makes it particularly easy to consult, the 220 recipes, in combination with one another, can produce a staggering total of more than 125 million potential menus, every one different. On each page, there are horizontal cuts separating each of the four sections – dedicated to appetizers, first course dishes, main course dishes, desserts – from one another. The different parts of each page can be turned independently, allowing you to leaf through, select, and reposition a recipe from among any of those in the volume for each one of the four courses, allowing you to compose a complete menu for today’s meal, enriched with a side dish if you like, based on a different combination each time. The 220 basic recipes are accompanied by a broad introduction that contains valuable information about the best combinations between various foodstuffs and ingredients, as well as some suggestions for the best use of this amusing, easy, and never repetitive reference tool. Academia Barilla, launched in 2004 in Parma by the world’s largest pasta producer, is devoted to the preservation and promotion of the Italian gastronomic tradition through courses taught by renowned chefs, gastronomic tours, the hosting of meetings and culinary laboratories with noted specialists, and the publication of books like this.

Fat-Free
Gourmet Recipes Text by Maurizio Cusani and Cinzia Trenchi Obesity affects almost 10 percent of the world’s population, especially in the rich countries of the Western world. A diet rich in fiber, fruit, vegetables, and whole grain foods in general, combined with less industrially prepared foods, snacks and pre-made meals is believed to be a valid alternative that can reduce the intake of calories and over time reduce excess weight and the complications linked to all the conditions resulting from excessive fat mass. Integrating appropriate foods (such as whole wheat flour, cereals, vegetables and fruit) in a daily diet is a great way to promote losing weight and body fat which, in turn, results in significant improvements in social life and in keeping several serious illnesses at bay, including cardiovascular disease, degenerative illnesses and cancer. The objective of this book is to suggest ways to adopt a well-informed approach to food and to prepare meals that are conceived for healthy living on the basis of simple tasty recipes, in order to improve health, increase energy and to transform food into an ally for achieving well-being and a perfect figure! With the right diet, it is possible to reduce weight significantly and maintain weight loss over time. This helps to lead a healthy life, in harmony with others and with oneself. Maintaining the ideal weight is an essential element for preventing all adult diseases and those of the elderly. Cinzia Trenchi is a naturopath and a freelance journalist and photographer specializing in food and eno-gastronomic related tours. Maurizio Cusani teaches Enneagram and Symbolism of the human body in Naturopathy courses and in the Masters courses in Psychosomatics for doctors and psychologists at the Riza Institute.

Gluten-Free
Gourmet Recipes Text by Maurizio Cusani and Cinzia Trenchi Celiacs must not eat any type of food that contains gluten or even a trace of it. Many foods contain gluten, but there are often suitable substitutions so celiacs do not feel that they have to make sacrifices or miss out on anything. The objective of this book is to provide valid alternatives to a traditional diet, precise information on how the condition manifests itself in our system, and specific dietary precautions to avoid the consequences of eating food that would be toxic for celiacs. The book adopts an informed approach to food and its properties, and includes many useful suggestions on the best way to prepare it, with simple tasty recipes, viewing foods as an ally for a fit and healthy body. In addition to improving personal energy levels, by following the advice provided in the book it is possible to cancel the symptoms of celiac disease with the consequent reduction or elimination of any medication that is taken to treat the problems caused by the condition. This is all about viewing diet as a cure, with meals considered as a form of natural medicine, made up of dishes in which particular attention is paid to satisfying all the senses, so that celiacs can find all the possible flavor, taste and pleasure in alternative foods.

Every bride wants her proverbial “best day” to be simply perfect: to achieve this objective, she cuts out and saves images of bouquets, consults friends about makeup and hairstyle, she calls on her loved ones about the choice of suitable place and the dream gown, she tests menus and makes up wedding lists. To organize such an important day and such a complex celebration, she also needs to be informed about the necessary documentation, to collect telephone numbers and appointment dates, to have always on hand the list of guests and that of the participants, for any last-minute modifications. As the fateful day draws near, the excitement can undermine anyone’s organization no matter how perfect, and make it necessary to have a little help to carry out every aspect of the day. This album is the ideal tool to accompany the future bride step-by-step in the planning of each detail of her wedding: the division into thematic chapters allows her to mark and quickly and easily find all the contacts and all necessary information. At the same time, the useful pockets offer space for storing documents, the sources of inspiration to keep in mind, or the list of guests to be updated from time to time. Practical envelopes make it easy to conserve CDs with videos, music, and images. Lastly, there is the final chapter, to be completed after the ceremony, which transforms the volume into a veritable memory album, allowing every couple to retrace the first steps of their new journey.

Old black-and-white photographs showing our parents young and carefree on the day of their wedding, the cake recipe that grandmother prepared for breakfast and that even today is our children’s favorite, the story of great-uncle’s journey across the ocean, by now a legend to tell the grandchildren: every family has memories handed down from generation to generation, that constitute our roots, explain who we are, and remind us where we come from.
